ERIC CARLE

Eric Carle is acclaimed as the creator of brilliantly


illustrated and innovatively designed picture books
for very young children. His best-known work The
Very Hungry Caterpillar (1969) has been read by
millions of children all over the world and has been
translated into 62 languages and sold over 41
million copies.Eric Carle has illustrated more than
seventy books, many best sellers, most of which he
also wrote, and more than 132 million copies of his
books have sold around the world.
Born in Syracuse, New York, in 1929, Eric Carle
graduated from the prestigious art school, the
Akademie der bildenden Knste, in Stuttgart. But
he returned to America, the land of his happiest
childhood memories. He won the Laura Ingell
Wilder Award for his career contribution to
American children's literature in 2003.
