The Safety Education Course Edition consists of Three Units. Unit One,
entitled The SAFETY Formula, breaks down safety into six important
parts:

Adapt

Fight or Flight

Eat Right

Yearn development

Unit two then proceeds to highlight the Need for inner safety with
safety of:

This leads us to Unit Three, focusing on External Safety with safety

After all 60 lessons, concluding the chapters are situational General


Knowledge tips that are useful for daily life.

About SAFIGI
SAFIGI Outreach Foundation aka Safety First for Girls, founded on May 9 2012, aims
at education girls on safety issues using social media, safety projects, volunteer
activities and collaborating with other organizations.

Nowadays, to survive, we need the skill to work for money in order to access
clean water, good housing and good food. We also need the skill to use technology such as driving or riding a bicycle or internet as well.

2. Why should you ensure your privacy on social network? Explain how to ensure this privacy.
Date of birth, location and identity, all which can be used in identify theft,
credit card theft or finding out where a person lives is accessible on social
media. Set all social networks to private and dont share important information on social media.

3. Name at least five qualities that identify a toxic friend.


A toxic friend; (i) backbites about you. (ii) degrades you (iii) uses you
(iv) hurts you. (v) is not supportive of you.

4. What steps do you need to make in order to become more responsible?


Take responsibility for yourself first by taking charge of your life, helping
others and learning about your own environment.

5. What are the steps needed in order to have a completely healthy body?
Eat healthy, exercise and avoid alcoholism, smoking or drugs.

Conformity is changing or hiding ones behavior or attitude over something in
order to fit in with a larger group.

2. What do you need to do in order to adapt to a situation that you do not like?
Give an example.
First, you need to see what is better for the future. Does adapting make it
better for other people and for you in the long run? Will adapting hurt or
help with personal growth. [Students examples will vary]

3. Do you believe that society has to change in order to suit your need? If so,
why. If not, why not?
Society is made up of many individuals so it can only change if individuals
change, so individuals need to be more accepting to others needs.

4. Do you need to give up on your individuality in order to adapt to a situation?


Why or why not?
It is not necessary to give up your individuality to adapt to a situation. There
are changes you may have to make but giving up who you are in order to fit
it can be harmful to personal development. It also depends on the situation.

5. Which is more important to you, individuality or following the opinions of a

FIGHT OR FLIGHT SKILL

1. What is the Fight or Flight response? Give an example.


Fight or Flight is the human response to either fight the threat or run away
from danger. One example, if a dog barks at a person, their instinct would be
to run away. [There are many other examples.]

2. What are the best methods for fighting? Explain.


The best method for fighting is to disarm the attacker and give oneself a
chance to run away. Use the bodys strong points such as the elbow, teeth or
head. Target week points such as genitals, ankles or eyes. Only fight if it is for
self-defense.

3. Would you flee a situation if you knew that you would be laughed at for not
staying to fight? If you would still flee, explain why. If not, explain why not.
In a situation where it is possible to run, it is better to run away in order to
avoid injury or loss of life. Even if laughed at for fleeing a situation, it is better
to be safe than sorry.

4. What situations would you have to flee?


Flee in any situation where you cannot fight. Also flee in whenever an escape
is possible.

5. Do you believe you have the skill to fight in any given situation? Explain.

EAT RIGHT SKILL LESSONS
Answer the following five questions to your best understanding.

1. What are the four types of food you should include in every meal in order to
have a balanced diet? Give an example for each.
Protein - Fish, Carbohydrate Maize, Vegetable - Cabbage, Fruit - Apple

2. Explain the best way to wash meat.


Make sure the meat is clean, get clean water or clean the meat carefully
over running water. Do not put the meat on a dirty surface when washing.

3. What is bingeing and how is it different or similar to dieting? Explain.


Bingeing is eating a lot of food because you will vomit it later through induced vomiting. It is different from dieting because you take in as much
food as you want but later vomit it.

4. Draw a timeline of the process it takes for you eat a fruit.

Other people opinions affect our own because we feel the need to fit in and
agree or in order to avoid conflict, we take someone elses opinion.

Obstacles to Critical Thinking can be Emotional attachment to the situation,
biased opinion, stress and lack of flexibility among other.

help poor people go to school. Community fund to build a school.

3. What are the similarities and differences of the development of a plant and
your own development? Explain.
Similarities: Both need to be nurtured, fed and kept in a good environment to
grow. Differences: Plant cannot make its own decisions but person can.

4. What are the most common obstacles to development worldwide? Give examples.
Obstacle to development are corruption, illiteracy, crime, injustice etc.

Mental manipulation can be identified by thinking critically about what you
are doing or thinking, by identifying who or what influences your thoughts
and taking charge of your thoughts.

3. What is stress? How does it affect mind health?


Stress is constant worry or overthinking about a certain situation. This affects
mental health by hindering critical thinking, bringing negative thought and in
excess can lead to mental disorders.

4. Name the most common thing you use your mind for daily. Explain.
The most common thing we use the mind for is to think, think about what actions we are going to do and think to understand the world around us.

5. Would you rather follow the mind or the heart? Explain.

1. What are the qualities of the two hearts? Explain.


The physical heart is responsible for pumping blood to the rest of the body
and needs to be kept healthy in order to prevent heart failure.
The emotional heart feels emotions which can also affect heart health.

2. Name some poisonous emotions. How do these affect the health of the heart?
Some poisonous emotions include hatred, envy, bitterness, unforgiveness,
anxiety and wickedness among others. These emotions negatively affect
overall wellbeing of the heart and in extremes can lead to heart failure and a
shorter life.

3. What are some steps you need to take in order to have a healthy physical
heart? To have a healthy physical heart, you need to eat healthy food, avoid
too many fatty foods and cholesterol, exercise regularly and visit the doctor
for checkups.

4. How does the health of the Emotional heart affect relationships?


Unhealthy emotions destroys relationships with things such as jealousy or hatred but healthy emotions builds it with love, forgiveness and trust.

5. Where can happiness be found? Explain.


True happiness comes from within, it cannot be found in other people or in
material things but it is each individuals personal choice.

An emotional abuser puts you down, uses you and tries to make you
blame yourself even when you identify they are at fault. They make you
feel worthless and as though you dont deserve them.

2. Name five positive emotions and five negative emotions. How do each
affect the quality of life?
Positive emotions: Love, Forgiveness, Trust, Peace and Happiness.
Negative emotions: Hate, Envy, Bitterness, Cruelty and Sadness.
They affect our day to day life and determine how we feel.

3. Why are emotions important?


Emotions help shape our world, understand it and identify how we feel.

4. How can feeling negative emotions towards someone you dont like negatively affect your wellbeing? Give an example.
Negative emotions can cause stress and heart failure, all which shorten life
and make you sad which can lead to depression.

5. What do you need to do to become a more confident person?


Believe in yourself, know your worth and believe that everyone is equal.
Know that you are good enough then be yourself.

1. List the process it takes to maintain personal hygiene.


Bath, shave, wear clean clothes, clean beddings, clean surroundings, cut
nails, comb hair, clean plates and clean food every day.

2. Name five types of abuse that can affect the body and how to prevent this.
Some five types of abuse that can affect the body include sexual abuse, battering, manual labor, starvation and torture. To prevent abuse first know that
you dont deserve it, get evidence of it, report the perpetrator to the police
and defend yourself.

3. In what case is the victim responsible for the abuse theyve endured? Explain.
In no case ever is the victim responsible for abuse they encounter. Victim
blaming or stigma is wrong. The one to blame is the one who commits the
abuse.

4. Name three or more consequences that result from a poor body self-image.
Poor self image can lead to (i) low self esteem (ii) self-harm (iii) distorted self
image.

5. How can use the body for self-defense? Explain with an example of yourself.
Use the body strong points such as the elbow, knees and teeth to disarm an
attacker.

Being responsible for others and having others be responsible for us helps the

3. What are the factors that identify if someone is abused?


An abused person may have unexplained bruises, low confidence, abnormal
sexual tendencies, withdrawn behavior and anti social behavior among others
but just because someone shows these signs does not mean theyve been
abused. You cannot always tell by looking.

4. What do you do when you are conflicted with another person? Give practical
examples.
When conflicted with someone else, identify what the conflict is and identify
ways to work together despite the conflict and resolve the conflict.

5. Who deserves your respect? Explain why.


Every person deserves respect, whether young, old, rich or poor. This is because all humans are created equal. Also, if we want respect, we must learn
to respect others.

A safe environment is clean, crime free, balanced and supports quality life.

When property is stolen, report the crime to rightful authorities and make sure
the culprit is arrested. Do not take revenge but leave justice to the law. If
property is violated, have the violator fix the property or buy a new one. Take
them to authorities if the violation is criminal.

5. How can you create a safe, crime free environment? Give practical examples.
By reporting every criminal and taking note of every crime, building an improved network of security, eradicating poverty, eradicating extremism and
making a safe crime-free environment everyones responsibility.
