IV. RATIONALE
One of the basic rights of children is survival - the right to be given proper
nutrition and health. Hand in hand with the Department of Health (DOH), the
Department of Education (Deped) ensures delivery of quality education services as well
as health and nutrition services to the future of the land - pupils and students.
Such that , the Municipal Health Office of every municipality in coordination with
Deped - District Office, renders health services to school children and makes
accomplishment reports on the following areas: establishment of sentrong sigla,
immunization of children, safe water, safe waste management, nutritional status of
school children, food assistance program to school children, nutrition education program
and iodized salt testing.
Looking at the various service areas of the DOH, safe water is classified as one
but it is the sub component or main component of the other health service areas.
Availability of safe and potable drinking water by our school children is of vital
importance to their health and nutrition. The accessibility to safe water is of great help
to the children most especially in their school achievement and performances.
The Department of Health and Department of Education may have this in their
service areas but provision of financial assistance in the construction of water tanks and
systems can not be contained by their funds due to many priority projects and limited
budget. Hence, this project proposal.
