Introduction
The purpose of this document is to outline the firmware upgrade procedure of the Dual
4200R FC to SATA RAID enclosure from 331Q02_41 to 342d05. The NVRAM between
these firmware versions is not compatible so some of the settings will have to be manually
reset after the upgrade. This document will outline which settings need to be setup.

Procedure of Upgrade
The firmware upgrade procedure must be conducted in the following order:
- Ensure all hosts are disconnected from the 4200R RAID system
- Shutdown the 4200R RAID system and then power off the 4200R enclosure
- Upgrade the 4200R RAID enclosure using the procedure outlined below in section
4 200R firmware upgrade procedure
- Reconnect all hosts to the 4200R RAID system
The 4200R RAID system should now be back on- line.

4200R firmware upgrade procedure:

There are 2 firmware images which need to be upgraded on the 4200R, the CEMI firmware
which controls the SES functionality of the enclosure and the main RAID firmware. The
upgrade procedure is different for each firmware image type.

CEMI firmware upgrade

To upgrade the CEMI firmware this must be done via the RS232 serial port on the 4200R
controller. The parameter settings for this connection are shown below:
Parameter

Setting

Transfer Protocol
Baud Rate
Data Bits
Parity
Stop Bits
Flow control

X- Modem
9600

None

The CEMI firmware is independent on each 4200R controller so this procedure needs to be
repeated for each controller.
The command to start the CEMI firmware upgrade is: download flash, followed by sending
the CEMI firmware image as a binary file (.snw).
For example,
Command line interface ready
0h00m07s SelID:3(3).MB.SM ics445300000085 12.01
?

After the firmware image has been downloaded it will automatically be flashed to the 4200R
controller and a reboot will occur.

Main RAID firmware upgrade

-

This procedure only needs to be conducted once, as both 4200R RAID controllers are
upgraded in the same procedure. Before the Firmware is upgraded ensure the
following are recorded:

Caching Parameters
The following Caching parameters:
Setting
Write Back cache
Optimisation for Random I/O
Periodic Cache flush time

Value

Host- side parameters

The following Host- side parameters should be:

Value
Max queued I/O count
Luns per host SCSI ID

Value

Redundant controller parameters

The following Redundant controller parameters:
Setting
Value
Redundant controller communication channel
Secondary controller RS- 232

Controller parameters
The following controller parameters:
Setting
Controller Unique Identifier (WWN seed)

Value

Logical drive ownership

Ensure the logical ownership and host lun presentation is recorded.

Important Note: Ensure the Controller Unique Identifier is recorded as this controls the
WWN of the RAID controller which is used by a host for identifying Luns.
All parameters should be left as default.

Start the RAIDWatch application, connect to the 4200R system

Select the Configuration/Controller/Operation/Download tabs
Select 'Download Firmware' and click OK
Browse and select the firmware image file on your local hard drive to start the
download
When the process is completed, it is notified that the download is successfully
completed
Complete the reboot to ensure the second 4200R RAID controller is upgraded
To ensure the new RAID firmware is committed to the 4200R RAID controllers do
the following (this can only be executed via the serial port (RS232)):
o Power off the enclosure
o Ensure only one controller is inserted into the enclosure
o Power on the enclosure
o Wait for it to boot
o Press Ctrl + acbd to enter maintenance menu
o Enter Password: oemmaint
o Type defaults restore
o Power off the 4200R enclosure
o Wait 30 seconds
o Remove the controller and insert the other controller
o Power on the 4200R enclosure
o Wait for it to boot
o Press Ctrl + acbd to enter maintenance menu
o Enter Password: oemmaint
o Type defaults restore
o Power off the 4200R enclosure
o Wait 30 seconds
o Insert both controllers
o There should be an event log entry saying the NVRAM defaults have been
restored.

Alter the host channel IDs to reflect the host channel IDs of
331Q02_41
The number of IDs presented on each host channel is different between the firmware levels.
To ensure LUN integrity the host channel IDs should retained on the 342d05 firmware. This
is achieved by editing the channels via the MUI interface using the view and edit channels
options.
The host channel 1 and 2 should have the following IDs only:
PID = 102 (Primary controller)
SID = 103 (Secondary controller)

Reapplying the RAID controller settings

Reapply the settings previously recorded before the firmware upgrade. Ensure the controllers
are reset before reconnecting the host FC connections.
