CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Testing can be divided into great parts. They are called Objective

Testing and Subjective Testing. Between objective and subjective, it has a

difference. In objective test, we will just find one correct answer but in

subjective test. It has more then one answer. So this condition causes

more difficulty for students because the distinction between a right and

wrong answer is not always as clear in objective testing. In this paper, we

just explore what subjective testing is.

CHAPTER 2

DISCUSSION

A. DEFINITION OF SUBJECTIVE TESTING

A subjective test evaluated by giving an opinion. It can be

compared with an objective test which has right or wrong answer so

it can be marked objectively. Subjective testing mainly depends on

an expert’s opinion. An expert is a person who is proficient and

experienced in the system under test. Conducting the test involves

test runs of the simulation by the expert evaluates and validates the

results based on some criteria.

In the subjective testing, students may be asked to expand

their thought in class and they may be expected to form their form

their own opinions and then provide the facts to support them.

Subjective testing is almost always graded by people which mean

that human opinion enters into determining how right or wrong a

respond is. It evaluates not only how well a student has memorized

and can recall facts and theories but often also requires that was

learned in the class room and expand on it. By using this form of
test the educator can assess not only how well student have learned

facts but also how well they have learned theory.

This approach can be used to know conditions which can not

be tested objectively. Limitations in subjective testing :

 The evaluation of the system is based on the

expert’s opinion which many difference from expert to expert.

 If the system is very large then it is bound to

have many experts

 Each expert may view it differently and give

conflicting opinion so this makes it difficult to determine the

validity of the system.

 Subjective testing is necessary for testing

system human interaction.

B. TYPE OF SUBJECTIVE TESTING

QUESTION

Subjective test question may be as simple as listing facts

about a topic or may require an in depth analysis of a particular

topic. Test of writing ability are often subjective because the require

on examiner to give an opinion on the level of writing. Types of

subjective testing question are essay, short answer or oral.

1. ESSAY

In general a classroom essay test consist of a small number of

questions to which the students in expected to demonstrate

their ability to recall factual knowledge, organize knowledge

and present the knowledge in a logical, integrated answer to

the question.

For example :

Explain the difference between Recount text an descriptive

text.

Answer :

♦ Describe is used to describe a particular person, place, or

thing.

Schematic Structure :

- Identification

- Description

Language Feature :

- Use of simple present tense

- use of deletional process

- Focus on specific participants

♦ Recount is used to retell events with the purpose of informing

or entertaining.

Schematic Structure :

- Orientation

- event (s)

- reorientation

Language Feature :

- Use of simple past tense

- use of material process

- Focus on specific individual participants

2. Short answer or oral

For example :

When a teacher asked the student, “What is colour of orange?”

Orange here means fruit. Maybe most students answered the

colour of orange is orange. But there is still student who

answered black or green. We cannot decide whether the

answers right or wrong before we hear their reasons.

- The answer “orange” because that fruit has been

ripe.

- The answer “black” because that fruit has been

rotten.

- The answer “green” because that fruit has been

unripe.
CHAPTER 3

CONCLUSION

A. CONCLUSION

From this discussion we know that subjective testing is a test

where it consist of more than one answer. Its difficult to decide

the answer is right or wrong because it depends on expert’s

opinion. So the students must expand their thought and provide

facts to support their answer in order to get the best answer.
