Know Your
Airconditioner
Blue Star Mega Split Airconditioners are available
in several models.

Know Your Model Number

You can identify the model number of your AC
based on the tonnage:

3.0

MHW361RC

All split airconditioners consist of two main

components, the Indoor Unit (IDU) and the
Outdoor Unit (ODU). While the former is installed
inside the airconditioned room, the latter is kept
outside. This is because all the heat from inside
is rejected outside through the ODU. The ODU
houses the all-important part of your airconditioner
the compressor. Blue Star ODUs are capable of
withstanding a 500 hour salt spray test. The
condenser coil uses coated blue fins to enhance
coil efficiency and life, and to protect it from
chemicals and corrossion due to salinity.
Outdoor Unit

The IDU is mounted on one of the walls of the

room to be airconditioned. The ODU can be
mounted on a wall, sunshade or skirting, outside
the room. The two units are connected through
refrigerant pipes made of copper.

USERS MANUAL

Installation
Locating the indoor and outdoor units properly will
help optimise the performance of your
airconditioner. While your Blue Star/Dealers
Technician will be happy to guide you on the best
location for your airconditioner, here are a few
helpful hints.

1.

Locating the Indoor Unit

1.

Locate the IDU for the best cool air circulation.

Avoid obstructions in the way of the air
circulation.

2.

Do not locate the unit directly opposite a door

which is opened frequently. The cold air will
go out of the room each time the door is
opened thus wasting energy.

3.

All indoor units will form condensate water.

Provision must be made to drain this
condensate from within the indoor unit to the
outside or into a toilet or similar space. The
technician will make sure that a U bend is
provided along the drain pipe to prevent
insects from coming into the room through
the drain tube.

The outdoor unit houses the compressor,

condenser, condenser fan and electrical
components. The heat removed from the room is
expelled to the atmosphere through the outdoor
unit.
Once again, the Blue Star/Dealers Technician will
ensure optimal installation of the ODU for you.
However, the following information will be of interest
to you.

1.

The Outdoor Unit can be mounted on a wall,

sunshade or skirting.

2.

Ideally, the ODU should not be too far away

from the IDU; the recommended distances
are marked in the figure alongside.

3.

Ensure that air can pass freely through the

unit. Please allow at least 2 metres free
space on the air outlet side, and 0.3 metres
on the air inlet side.

4.

If more than one ODU is to be installed, they

must be properly separated, so that the warm
air from the outlet of one does not enter the
inlet of the other.

Max Height 10mtr

5.

Avoid long and complicated routing of pipes

between the IDU and ODU, as shown in the
three adjacent figures.

b. Too high

6.

b.

The ODU must be placed on a strong frame

or support. If mounted on a wall, please
ensure that the wall is thick enough and that
the frame is supported adequately.

c.

6.
7.

Finally, it is most important that the ODU is

easily accessible to the service technician. It
is advisable to discuss the same with the
sales engineer before deciding upon the
location of the Unit.
If the ODU is to be located on a high ledge,
it will be a good idea to provide a catwalk (a
platform) around the Unit and an access
door/window close to the outdoor unit location.

7.

Electrical Outlet
After the locations of the outdoor unit and indoor
unit are finalised, you must provide a suitable
electrical outlet near the indoor unit.

12

USERS MANUAL

Using the Remote Control

1. Point the remote control towards the AC, and
operate within 8m of the AC and within a 30o
angle.
2. Press the ON/OFF button on the remote.
3. Your AC is switched ON, but your compressor
will switch on automatically after a delay of
about 3 minutes. (See Time Delay on p.16).
4. Your AC comes with non-volatile memory, i.e.
memory that does NOT get erased on power
failure or when the unit is switched off, and all
settings operation mode, set temperature,
swing mode, ECONOMY mode, fan speed,
timer settings are stored in this memory.
Hence, on switching ON, the AC resumes
operation with whatever settings it was
previously programmed to operate on.
5. Press ON/OFF again to switch your AC off.
Notes:
1. Ensure that curtains, doors etc., do not block
the signals from the remote control to the
indoor unit.
2. Prevent any liquid from failing into the remote
control. Do not expose the remote control to
direct sunlight or heat.
3. If the infrared signal receiver on the indoor unit
is exposed to direct sunlight, the airconditioner
may not function properly. Use curtains to
prevent sunlight from falling on the receiver.
4. Keep the remote away from other electrical
and electronic appliances like TV, DVD player,
etc., to ensure reliable operation. If other
electrical appliances react to the ACs remote
control, either move these appliances or consult
your local dealer.

Operating Your
Airconditioner
Your airconditioner can be conveniently operated
using the intelligent cordless Remote Control.
1. Switch on the MCB. A red lamp on the Indoor
Unit glows when you power on the unit.
Time Delay
The compressor can be damaged if the electrical
supply stops and resumes immediately. To protect
the compressor, a Time Delay is incorporated
into the circuit. The Time Delay ensures that the
compressor switches on only after a delay of
about 3 minutes after (a) power is interrupted
momentarily, or (b) the COOL mode is selected.
For more details on the COOL Mode, see p.18.
2. Press the ON/OFF button. Your AC switches
on with parameters that were set before power
was switched off. In case of power failure too,
your AC retains previous settings in memory,
and resumes with earlier settings upon
resumption of power.
3. Select the COOL, DRY or FAN mode by
pressing the MODE key.

16

USERS MANUAL
