it we do specific mantra which we wish to do.

mantra with hand or with namaskaram mudra (namaste position). Main thing is we

have capacity to count 108 times with hand while repeating mantra. If we wish to count
mantra how many time we are doing rudraksha jap mala (necklace) will help. Please see

Avoid drinking water at all cost unless it is bottled water from a reputed company.

Food-wise anything that is boiled, cooked or fried is a safer bet than anything cold or raw. So avoid
cold salads, raw vegetables, drinks with ice etc.

Carry a mosquito/insect repellent wherever you go to avoid diseases like malaria or simply even the
itchy discomfort.

Always carry a kit of the basic emergency medicines you might need for diarrhoea, fever etc. Also,
keep on your personal band-aids and an antiseptic ointment.

Use sunscreen all the time to prevent sunburn. Try and wear a hat if you're going to be in the sun.

Initially, at least, avoid excessive alcohol and strenuous activity to stave off heat stroke.

Ensure you are physically and mentally fit to perform the journey as the Yatra involves trekking at an
altitude of 1,4000ft. Get yourself medically examined and certified fit for the journey.

At least a month before the Yatra, it is advisable to start preparatory exercises: Even a brisk walk of
about 4 to 5 km per day would be beneficial. Breathing exercises like Pranayama would help combat
the lack of sufficient oxygen at high altitudes.

Do carry heavy woollens, including thermal body warmers, wind cheaters, raincoats, sleeping bags,
blankets, water-proof shoes with sufficient grips, small water proof tents, torch with sufficient
batteries and walking sticks.

Keep a slip with your Name, Address and the name of accompanying yatri in your pocket.

Women are advised to avoid sarees and opt for salwar kameez or trousers.

Carry water and dry eatables. Ration and firewood quota is available en route and can be purchased.

All medical facilities during Yatra are free. It is advisable to carry your own personal medical kit and
First aid box.

Hire only a registered ponywalla or porter. Don't walk far away from ponies carrying luggage.

Move slowly and steadily, as this is an arduous pilgrimage and maintain discipline.

Don't relax at places where warning signs are fixed. Don't attempt short cuts on the route.

Please carry an oxygen kit.

The lingam at Kedarnath, unlike its usual form, is pyramidal and is regarded as one of
the 12 Jyotirlings.

The pandavas after having won over the kauravas in the epic war of Kurukshetra, felt guilty of
having killed their own kith and kin. They sought the blessings of Lord Shiva for redemption but
Shiva eluded them repeatedly. He took refuge at Kedarnath in the form of a bull. On being followed
he dived into the ground, leaving his hump on the surface. The remaining portions of Lord Shiva
appeared at four places and are worshiped there as his manifestations. The arms appeared at
Tunganath, the face at Rudranath, the belly at Madmaheshwar and his locks at Kalpeshwar.
Kedarnath including these four shrines is treated as Panch Kedar.

Pilgrims traditionally first visit Yamunotri and Gangotri and bring with them the holy waters from the
sources of the rivers Yamuna and Ganga and offer abhishekams to Kedareshwara. The traditional
pilgrim route is Haridwar - Rishikesh - Deo Prayag - Tehri - Dharasu - Yamunotri - Uttar Kashi Gangotri - Triyugnarayan - Gaurikund and Kedarnath. Alternatively, the route to Kedarnath from
Rishikesh is via Deo Prayag, Srinagar, Rudra Prayag, Agastmuni, Gupt Kashi and Gaurikund. Near
Kedarnath is the source of the river Mandakini. Mandakini joins Alakananda at Rudra Prayag.

Of the many journeys one makes in all the lives, the one that is most
important is the Journey within. Within us lies the core of our consciousness,
which remains undisturbed by all that happens around us. It is this vital life
force that keeps the faith alive. Char Dham Yatra is a journey of faith. It is
mentioned in ancient Hindu texts that one can attain Moksha ( nirvana ) by
undertaking a journey to the Four Pilgrimage Centers Yamnotri, Gangotri,
Bdrinath and Kedarnath known by a sacred name Dev Bhumi or The Land of
The Gods. Yatra Char Dham is arduous and difficult journey which takes you
across seriously high Himalayan ranges where one can witness the grandeur
of Gods creation. Every step becomes a meditation and as one becomes
aware of every breath there is much that is revealed within. One comes
closer to nature and its elements as a beautiful vision of natural beauty and
magnificence unfurls in front of your eyes. Vedic Chanting, Incense and
Resonating Bells create an enchanting atmosphere which alleviates one of all
sorrows and pain. Yatra Char Dham 2013 starts from 13th May and the
traditional route is from West to East covering Yamunotri Gangotri
Kedarnath Badrinath. There are 2 routes you can start from Dehradun or
Haridwar. The yatra to Char dham is a life time achievement and it is believed
that one can be get rid of from the continuous cycle of birth and death and
wash away all sins. Given below is information on the 4 Pilgrimage Centers

Sri Kedarnath Dham The most remote of the four Char Dham sites, Kedarnath
is located in the Himalayas, about 3584m (11759 Ft.) above sea level near
Corabari Glacier, the head of river Mandakini, and is flanked by breathtaking
snow-capped peaks. Kedarnath is named in honor of King Kedar, who ruled in
the Satya Yuga. He had a daughter named Vrinda who was a partial
incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. She performed austerities for 60000 years.
In honour of her, the land is named Vrindavan. However, Kedarnath and its
temple exist from the Mahabharata Era when the Pandavas are supposed to
have pleased Lord Shiva by doing penance there. The temple opens on
Akshya Tritiya (April end or first week of May) and closes on Bhai Duj (October
end or 1st week of November) due to heavy snowfall and extreme cold
weather during winter. Kedarnath is difficult to reach. There are 2 ways to

Badrinath is the most important of the four sites in India's Char Dham
pilgrimage. The town gets its name from the Holy temple of Badrinath which
is situated at a height of 3,415 Mts in the Garhwal hills, on the banks of the
Alaknanda River. Badrinath lies between the Nar and Narayana mountain
ranges and in the shadow of Nilkantha peak (6,560m). Badrinath is located
301 km north of Rishikesh. According to legend Shankara discovered a black
stone image of Lord Badrinarayan made of Saligram stone in the Alaknanda
River. Padma Purana celebrates Badrinath and surrounding regions as
abounding in spiritual treasures. Badrinath has been mentioned as a holy
place in scriptures and legends for thousands of years. According to the
Bhagvata Purana, "There in Badrikashram the supreme being Lord Vishnu,
in his incarnation as the sages Nara and Narayana, had been undergoing
great penance since time immemorial for the welfare of all living entities."
The Badrinath Temple is the main attraction in the town. The mountains
around Badrinath are mentioned in the Mahabharata, when the Pandavas are
said to have ended their life by ascending the slopes of a peak in western
Garhwal called Swargarohini - literally, the 'Ascent to Heaven'. Sri-Badrinath

This is true for travellers coming to India as most Indians are quite attuned to the travel
conditions in the country.
Avoid drinking water at all cost unless it is bottled water from a reputed company.
Food-wise anything that is boiled, cooked or fried is a safer bet than anything cold or raw. So avoid cold
salads, raw vegetables, drinks with ice etc.
Carry a mosquito/insect repellent wherever you go to avoid diseases like malaria or simply even the itchy
discomfort.
Always carry a kit of the basic emergency medicines you might need for diarrhoea, fever etc. Also, keep
on your personal band-aids and an antiseptic ointment.
Breathing exercises like Pranayama would help combat the lack
of sufficient oxygen at high altitudes.
Do carry heavy woollens, including thermal body warmers, wind cheaters, raincoats, sleeping bags,
blankets, water-proof shoes with sufficient grips, small water proof tents, torch with sufficient batteries and
walking sticks.
It is advisable to carry your own personal medical kit and First
aid box.

Char

Dham

Yatra

Char Dham is referred to the four most holy Hindu pilgrimage

of India nestled in Indian Himalayas of Uttarakhand state of
India. Yamunotri, Gangotri, Sri Kedarnathji and Sri Badrinathji,
collectively referred to as the Char Dham ( four pilgrimage
centres) of Hinduism, these four sites are the epicenter of
religious activity in north India and important shine for Hindus.
These have been the most important Hindu piigrimage centers
which have been visited by devout Hindus for ages. The circuit consists of four sites.
Yamunatri, the source of the Yamuna river and seat of Goddess Yamuna; Gangotri, the source of
the Ganges river and seat of Goddess Ganga ; Kedarnath ,where a form of the Hindu God Shiva
is acclaimed as one of the twelve jyotilinga this is the highest of the 12 Jyotirlingas - where Lord
Shiva manifested himself in the form of light, it is the third of the four dhams and the holiest of
all Hindu holy sites;and Badrinath, the seat of the Hindu God Vishnu. Experience the divinity and
mysticism of these sacred shrines as we take you an a journey to'Dev Bhumi'(Abode of Gods),
Uttarakhand. Traditionally, the Chardham yatra is undertaken from the west to the east. Thus, the
yatra starts from Yamunotri, then proceeding to Gangotri and finally to Kedarnath and Badrinath.
Moreover devotees also visit Gurudwara Sri Hemkund Sahib Ji the pilgrimage site for the Sikhs,
and is one of the highest located religious sites in the country. Thus, pilgrims visit all these places
in aspiration of washing away their sins and to attain salvation by the blessings of the Lord and
ensuring the release from the cycle of birth and death. The honour conferred on these places is
not surprising. These are regarded as the most sacred of all Himalayan ranges. It is also said that
heaven and earth converge in these holy spots, and to be born or die here is a boon only the very
fortunate have. The Chardham must be visited from left to right -beginning with Yamunotri,
going on to Gangotri, then Kedarnath and culminating the journey at Badrinath. This route
follows the Hindu tradition of parikrama.

Char Dham Yatra Shrine Information:Shri Badrinath Dham: is considered the holiest of the four important shrines. The town is at an altitude of 3,133 m.
above sea level, situated on the left bank of river Alaknanda and exactly between the two mountains Nara and

redemption. He eluded them repeatedly and while fleeing took refuge at Kedarnath in the form of a bull. On being
followed he dived into the ground, leaving his hump on the surface. The remaining portions of Lord Shiva appeared at

four other places and are worshipped there as his manifestations. The arms appeared at Tungnath, the face at
Rudranath, the belly at Madhmaheshwar and his locks (hair) with head at Kalpeshwar. Kedarnath and the four abovementioned
