REFLECTION from Fr Greg

Dear Parish Family,

22 Singing Practise

We are about to hit the silly season i.e. lots of people which will be wonderful, but also
crazy!!!! It means I guess that we all have to add time to whatever trip we are making,
particularly if it involves crossing our beautiful bridge. Patience too, with all the people who
will be celebrating with us and wont necessarily know our Communion process or the way
we do things. I think that means we might need to have some introductions. When we sit
near someone we dont know, it might mean we ask more directly are you a visitor? If they
are visitors we make them feel welcome of course by our introductions. At times like
Communion, we have made them feel more at home because we have gently pointed them
in the right direction.

Can I also put a little ad in for the Communion process? The normal way for the procession is
a reverent bow one person back from the head of the procession, as prescribed in the
General Instruction on the Roman Missal (GIRM), the Australian inclusion. I understand that
for some of us we prefer to genuflect. We know that both are reverend actions. By doing the
same action, the Church and the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference talk in terms of
being in Communion with each other overtly, when much of our lives are lived in a thousand
different ways and with a broad range of diversity.
So my advert: if you do genuflect can you be mindful to physically stop in the aisle beforehand, so that the person behind also stops and doesnt walk over your leg. We have a couple
of people who do that beautifully with an upright posture, using the end of the pew for
support. That action flags a safe response to the people coming behind. We also have some
who do it as a more fluid in motion action: if we could avoid the second that would be
helpful. I say this because we had a couple of little incidents recently where a person has
tripped. Whilst no one was hurt it has made me more aware of the need for safety. With the
increase in numbers of visitors and holiday makers, the potential for the holiday mode to be
more evident arises. When on holidays, we become less aware of our surroundings.

Christmas Day Lunch 2015

This year marks the 30th year in
succession that Christmas Day Lunch
has been held in our hall. Each year
between 40 and 50 people gather to
share a meal and enjoy each others
company. Although the event was
originally instigated to cater to those
who would otherwise be spending
Christmas Day alone, in past years
many families as well as singles have
joined us to celebrate the day together.
There are no costs involved for
attendance and everyone is most
welcome to join us. The function is a
very informal gathering where
everyone plays a part in preparing and
serving the meal and sharing in the
family atmosphere of the day. This year
the hall will be opened from 11am and
lunch will be served at 1pm. Everyone is
welcome to come along and join us. For
more information contact Greg Byrne
on 6554 8045 or 0427 918 568.

Church Rosters & Holiday Season

During the holiday season each year in our
Church we struggle with the welcome influx of
visitors and the shortage of Ministers (Readers/
Min of Communion/Sacristans) to fill the rosters
and thus provide well served liturgies.
A roster has been drawn up to give us a starting
point and it would be appreciated if ministers
could make a special effort to fill these
positions. If that is not possible we would ask
that you find a replacement or, failing that,
inform the Office.
Please collect your roster today.

Parish Secretary/Finance
The Taree Catholic Parish is seeking applications for the position of Parish Secretary
(Finance) to provide financial administrative and reception support to the Parish Priest,
Parish Secretary and Parish Teams.
The position which is located at the Catholic Presbytery Office, 71-77 Albert Street

flexibility in hours and days and ideally capacity to provide annual leave relief for the
Parish Secretary (Pastoral Administration).

Advent Hymn by Paul Geraghty

Calling all Angels, Shepherds, Kings,

Inn Keepers, Mary and Joseph!
If you are twelve years or younger and
would like to participate in our Christmas
Mass at Holy Name School on the 24
December at 6.30pm you are invited to
dress for the occasion in Costume. A
practice will be held at the school
on Wednesday, December 23 at 10am.
Mary is a coveted role and if we have
more than one Mary a ballot will be held
at the practice!

Refrain
Your friends are waiting for You Lord,
Your friends are waiting here
We wait with quiet hearts and minds
With love and not with fear.
We call to mind your coming Lord,
Your coming long ago.
You came into the world you made
But You it did not know. Refrain
We call to mind your promise Lord,
To be with us the same,
Whenever two or three or more
Are gathered in your name. Refrain
We call to mind your promise Lord
To come to us once more
But will You come soft as the dew
Or with a thunder roar? Refrain
