Messaging Gateway Connection and Capability

1. Introduction
1. Platform purpose
The Sprint Enterprise Messaging Gateway is intended to provide a single point
of entry for Sprint corporate customers to send Text Messages to their
employees into both the Sprint CDMA and Nextel iDEN networks,
2. Document Purpose
This document is intended to provide a basic overview of the Enterprise
Messaging Gateway features and capabilities and to provide details on
connectivity requirements and the connection process.

2. Protocol Support
1. SNPP Sprint Nextel support of SNPP provides 2-way messaging support,
including delivery receipts, to appropriate receiving devices over the internet. As
an industry standard protocol, SNPP is based upon the SNPP specification RFC
1861 Simple Network Paging Protocol Version 3 Two Way Enhanced.
2. WCTP Sprint Nextel support of WCTP provides 2-Way messaging support
including delivery receipts over the Internet, both with and without SSL. WCTP is
based upon WCTP specification version 1.3
3. SMPP Sprint Nextel support of SMPP provides 2-Way messaging support
including delivery receipts over the Internet. SMPP support is based upon SMPP
specification version 3.4.
4. SMTP SMTP support is provided with strict restrictions. Messages must
originate from a single email address.
5. Message Length Messages up to 500 characters are supported through all
protocols.
6. Connectivity
i. SMPP requires persistent connectivity via a VPN, Frame Relay, or ATM.
ii. SNPP connectivity can be provided over the open internet, VPN, Frame
Relay, or ATM.

iii. WCTP Connectivity can be provided over the open internet, both with
or without SSL, via VPN, Frame Relay, or ATM.
iv. Connection Point Messaging clients for SNPP and WCTP need to be
pointed to: 64.28.80.123 Port: 444. For SMPP the IP address and Port number
will be supplied with login credentials.

v. Persistent Connection Cost- All persistent connections have a connection


fee of $,5000, plus any costs required for Frame Relay or ATM service.
3. Web Portal Overview
1. The Sprint Messenger Web Portal provides an easy to use, flexible application for
creating and managing messages to be delivered via multiple delivery methods,
including: SMS, email, Text to Voice, and fax.
2. Address Book The Web Portal includes an Address Book that support up to
5,000 address book entries.
i. The Address book supports distribution lists. The size of a distribution list
is limited only by the address book size.
ii. Each address book entry may consist of: contact name, work phone,
home phone, mobile phone (both for voice and Text delivery), and fax
number.
3. Message Composition The Web Portal provides an easy to use interface that
enables the creation and delivery of messages to a variety of destinations. Each
message can be delivered to multiple destination types: SMS, email, Text to
Speech via a voice call to landline or mobile, and fax.
4. Delivery Status The Web Portal provides an easy to use interface to check
delivery status of messages by recipient, and by recipient delivery type.
4. Outlook Plugin Overview
1. The downloadable Outlook plugin integrates the EMG with all versions of
Outlook including Outlook 2007.
2. The Outlook plugin provides an easy to use, flexible application for creating and
managing messages to be delivered via multiple delivery methods, including:
SMS, email, Text to Voice, and fax.
3. Address Book The Outlook plugin leverages the Exchange GAL and Outlook
Contacts, so the user utilizes the same contacts that are used for their email
messages. The address book is also limited only by server and PC storage
constraints.
4. Message Composition The Outlook plugin completely integrates into Outlook
so that sending a message as a Text Message or as Text to Speech is as easy as
sending an email. Messages are sent over the internet via SSL utilizing a
proprietary XML based API.

5. Delivery Status The Outlook plugin provides an easy to use interface to check
delivery status of messages by recipient, and by recipient delivery type.
5. Browser Plugin Overview
1. The downloadable Browser Plugin integrates the EMG with both the Internet
Explorer and Firefox browsers. Internet Explorer is supported through version 8.
Firefox is supported through version 3.5.
2. The Browser plugin provides an easy to use, flexible application for creating and
managing messages to be delivered via multiple delivery methods, including:
SMS, Text to Voice, and fax.
3. Address Book The Browser plugin leverages the Exchange GAL and Outlook
Contacts, so the user utilizes the same contacts that are used for their email
messages. The address book is also limited only by server and PC storage
constraints.
4. Message Composition The Brow plugin utilizes an easy to use toolbar to allow
message composition and delivery to SMS, email, Text to Speech, and fax.
Messages are sent over the internet via SSL utilizing a proprietary XML based
API.
5. Delivery Status The Outlook plugin provides an easy to use interface to check
delivery status of messages by recipient, and by recipient delivery type.
6. Telephony
1. The EMG provides access to an IVR which allows the user to create and send
messages, access their address book, etc.
7. Delivery Receipts
1. Delivery receipts are supported for all message delivery methods, and on both
the CDMA and iDEN networks.
8. Message Segmentation
1. Messages greater than 160 characters will be segmented into multiple messages
of 160 characters and paginated (pagination characters are included in the 160
character count).
9. Message Storage
1. All messages are stored in the users account for six months.
2. All message folders are accessible from: Web Portal, Outlook and Browser
Plugins, and IVR.
10. Connection Process
1. The Sprint Enterprise Messaging Gateway requires authentication.
Authentication requirements vary depending upon access method.
2. SNPP/WCTP/SMPP White listed IP address and username is required.
3. Web Portal/Outlook/Browser/IVR Username and passcode is required.
