Tire Options For

793C Mining Truck

Introduction
Caterpillar offers many tire, rim, flange and axle configuration
options today for the 793C Mining Trucks. Choosing the right
configuration can be a challenge. The following information
provides assistance for the customer in choosing the right
configuration or to understand their options for converting
from one configuration to another.
90 and 95 Series Tires
To experience the benefits of 90 series tires customers have the
option to convert from 40.00 or 80 series tires to 90 series tires.
Past salesgrams have discussed adaptability and fitment of
90 series tires.

Fitment of 90 and 95 Series Tires with 29" Rims

No modifications are required to convert to 90 or 95 series tires
with 29" rims.
Fitment of 90 and 95 Series Tires with 32" Rims
There are several modifications that must be made to the truck to
convert to 90 or 95 series tires with 32" rims to prevent interference.
The 1000-gallon and 1200-gallon fuel tanks cannot be used with
the 90 or 95 series tires with 32" rims. A new 1180-gallon fuel
tank (202-0820) has been released and validated as a replacement.
New for 2002, the 1180-gallon fuel tank is standard and the only
option for the 793C Mining Truck. The 1180-gallon fuel tank is a
direct replacement for the previous tanks and requires no chassis
modifications.
The RH platform and LH fender also require modification.
Effective 1st quarter 2002, all new 793C Mining Trucks have
a new RH Platform Assembly (216-1342) replacing (165-7185),
a new LH Fender Assembly (210-9247) replacing (8X-4283)
and a new Plate Assembly (210-9250) replacing (139-0478),
that allow customers to run 40.00, 80 series, or 90 series tires.
Customers with existing trucks will have two options for making
these changes. The first option is to purchase all new iron and
replace their existing platform and fender. The second option is
for the customer to make the modifications themselves and only
purchase the parts necessary to make the modifications. Service
Magazine _____________ outlines the procedure for these
modifications.
Converting from 40.00 Tires to 90 Series Tires
The 40.00 and 90 series tires can both be used on the standard
axle and the wide axle; both require 6" flanges. In some cases,
new rims (32" 57") are required for the 90 series tires since
40.00 use (29" 57").

Converting from Standard Axle 40.00 or 90 Series Tires

to Wide Axle 80 Series Tires
To run 80 series tires customers who currently have a standard
rear axle must convert to a wide tires rear axle configuration.
For information on 80 series tires see Feature Module AEDK0042.
The 80 series tires are wider and smaller in diameter and require a
5" flange. Special Instruction REHS0341 provides the necessary
information to convert a 793C Mining Truck from a standard rear
axle configuration to a wide tire rear axle configuration.
Choosing the Right Tire
Not all tire manufacturers make tires that work in all of the
scenarios listed above. The following chart provides the tire
manufacturers recommendations for tire, rim and flange
arrangements.
