1. How has sensation influenced Oishis perception and the rest of the Samurais
-

toward Kai whom they called half breed?

Sensation, especially the sense of sight, greatly influenced their perception
towards Kai. They perceived Kai as different and not looking like them. Kais skin
color is white and his eyes are not like the others as squinted. The first time they
saw him, they also used their sense of sight to see the marks on Kais head and
perceived it as a bad mark/ the mark of a demon. Their perception towards him is

affected by several factors such as where they are situated at, culture, etc.
2. What forms of altered states of consciousness was/were shown in the film? Site
-

a specific scene to support your answer.

One of the most notable scene in the movie that showed altered state of
consciousness is the scene where Lord Asano was bewitched by putting a spider
that secrets a potion in his mouth. This is a form of altered state because Lord
Asanos perception was altered and does not meet with reality. He had a
hallucination that his daughter is being harmed by Kira even though in reality he

is just sleeping.
3. What is the common motive shared by the samurais and the ronins? Explain how
-

it differed with the way each group valued it.

The common motive of Samurais and Ronins is that they both have a code of
honoring and protecting their masters no matter what the cost would be. The
difference is that the Samurais have a master to protect and the Ronins dont. The
ronins goal and motive now is to avenge their master, still a form of honoring their
master.
4. What kind of emotion had led Kai and the Ronins fight against Kira and back
Asano? What were the varieties of emotion shown in the film?

The emotion that had led Kai and the Ronins to fight Kira is anger, and this anger
is fueled by injustice therefore they want to bring justice by avenging their master.
Many varieties of emotion were shown in the film; a notable one is disgust and
shame. It is shown in the movie that Ronins are shamed for not achieving the
goal of protecting their master. The movie rarely shows signs of smiling, probably
because of culture, but it still shows joy such as the celebration of the Ronins in
the death of Kira. Sorrow is seen in the movie during the death of Lady Asanos

father and the death of Kai. It both shows fear and a great deal of bravery.
5. What part of the movie has struck you the most? Elaborate your answer.
- The part of the movie that struck me the most is the end part when the Ronins
committed ritual suicide for the crime of killing Kira. Their bravery really struck me
because they would really do anything for their master without fear. It struck me
more when Oishis son was saved from the death penalty so their bloodline could
still pursue in the village. Nowadays its hard to believe that there would still be
people to actually sacrifice their lives in order to honor their master.
