Instructional Strategies
Opener or Engagement Phase
Introduce the topic of the solar system
o Ask your students if they have ever looked at the sky at night.
o Using a model space shuttle motion like your flying through
space. Have your students close their eyes. After that, ask them if
they ever wondered about what was beyond the clouds.
o Allow the students to think about that for a minute.
Body
Show the students the The Solar System presentation.
Explain that they need to write the details on the sheets given to them
as they watch the presentation
Explain each slide as necessary.
Have your students listen to recording 10. Play it twice.
Encourage them to ask questions whenever they want to.
Exploration Phase
Divide your class into groups of four to six students. Give each group
two or three planets of the eleven planets, or the sun and the moon.
Explanation Phase
Explain to the students that they have to use the internet to find the
following for the next period.
o Each group will research their planets (sun and/or moon) and
present the class a short presentation regarding them.
Closing
Ask the students to say one thing that they have learned today about
the solar system.
For every new comment, their group will gain 2 points.
VII. Assessment
1. Look at sheets of paper given to them at the beginning of the lesson
(while walking around room, monitoring progress) to see how well
they filled in the information.
2. Listen to their comments about what they have learned at the end of
the class period.
How to record learners' progress?
1. Continue filling in the grades and participation marks group follow up
sheet.
2. Use a checklist to record each student's work.
