This document lists the minimum input breaker for the Flatpack S rectifier family.
Internally in each rectifier module there are two input fuses. The main purpose for these fuses is
to disconnect the module from input AC if failure occurs inside the module. Depending of chosen
system configuration, the power supply system can be pre-wired for different AC input feedings
from upstream AC switch board:
1.
2.
3.
4.

Separate single phase, fused AC feeding to each individual rectifier module

Single phase AC feeding several modules
3-phase AC feeding several modules, IT network, (3-phase, 4 wire delta network)
3-phase AC feeding several modules, TN network (3-phase, 5 wire, star)

These different configurations will load the AC feed differently and the configuration has to be
known before the type of breaker can be determined. When dimensioning the upstream feeding
mains breaker, one or several of the following requirements has to be met:
A. Discrimination between module input fuse and upstream feeding AC breaker
B. Full load with a fully populated system at nominal voltage (i.e. @ 230V AC)
C. Full load with a fully populated system at normally lowest nominal voltage from local
distributor (i.e. @ 205Vac)
D. Full load with a fully populated system at lowest input voltage specification for the
rectifiers (i.e. @ 185Vac)
Requirement A has to be fulfilled, except in configuration 1 (one breaker per rectifier). As a
minimum requirement B has to be fulfilled, but having in mind power distributors normally only
can guarantee nominal AC voltage +/-10%, requirement C is recommended. If the power system is
installed in an area with weak mains and there is a chance of variation below -10%, requirement D
must be considered.
Below you will find lists for the minimum upstream AC feeding breaker for the Flatpack S
rectifiers.
Important assumptions and considerations when choosing breaker:
The rectifiers are evenly distributed between the phases for 3-phase configurations
Thermal/magnetic breakers should normally not be loaded more than 80% continuously,
see manufacturers data sheet for details
Thermal/magnetic breakers normally have a thermal de-rating at temperatures above
+30oC. See manufacturers data sheet for details
