Thank You!
Did you know that its people like you who make this music available?
Its true. This musical pdf file comes from a continually growing website which is currently over 250mb in size. Each
month, new music is added and the costs of the site continue to mount. Without donations from supporters like you,
none of this would be possible. Thanks to this generous support, thousands, no, millions of people from all over the
world have access to this music.

Why Donate?
Your donations guarantee that the website will go on to function the way it has been. This not only means that you will
have continual access to the site but also that new music will keep being added to the catalog, giving you plenty of
reasons to return for more. My short term goal is to post 100 items (compositions and books) by midsummer, but I have
long term projections which easily surpass 300 items. Thats a whole lot of web space and I know I cant pay for that
myself. Thats why I need your help. Without your financial help, I may need to close the whole thing down.
I also have to believe that, if enough people support this site, other sites will follow. Wouldnt that be a wonderful thing,
to have composers and authors from all over the world who offer their books and music online for a suggested
donation? If the people support it, then its a win/win situation for everyone involved.

The Music
The music in these files is top quality engraving. Not only do I use the industrys leading music engraving software
(Finale), but I spend the time and effort to make the parts exactly right. Many people use computerized musical notation
as a short cut but I dont. I rarely accept the defaults in each individual part and I labor over them literally for hours to
make sure that the music is easy to read. This is the same engraving quality you would get from any of the major
publishers, if not better!

Why downloads?
I ran my own publishing business for over a decade before I decided to post all of my books and compositions on my
website. Having done it both ways, I can tell you that this way is better for everyone. I want people to use my music and
my books. Doing it the old way, via mail order sales, I had to limit the numbers of books and reduce the quality of the
print in order to keep up with the demand. This way, you will eventually have access to everything Ive ever written and
it will always be of the highest quality work.
The downloads also allow me to spend my time practicing and writing more music instead of trying to fill book orders.
This means that my best work is yet to come and that the music will continue to mature in the future. Once again I have
to say that this is better for everyone.
But the most important benefit to you is that the recommended donation amount is only a fraction of what I was charging
in my mail order business. For example, my Daily Routines book was selling for $30. The recommended donation for
that book is $5. Can it get any better than that? You get the music now and you get it for far less.

Money Back
All donations are 100% refundable. I never want anyone to think I suckered them into giving me money. If for any
reason you feel like you made a mistake, I will gladly refund exactly the amount you donated.

Of course, not everyone feels comfortable sending money via Paypal. Some people prefer to send checks through the
regular mail and thats okay with me. If you would like to make a donation for this file, but dont want to make an online
payment, please send a check or money order for five dollars to:

Introduction
The Physical Trumpet Pyramid is an outline of the physical demands of
trumpet playing. In contrast to a ladder type of outline, a pyramid shows
dependency. As a person climbs a ladder, each new rung supports the weight of
that person, The bottom rungs are then left behind. I n a pyramid type of outline,
all new material relies on previously used material. In application to the physical
demands of trumpet playing, a pyramid type of outline implies a specific order of
dependency. The details of this type of dependency are discussed in my book
called The Physical Trumpet Pyramid.
Daily Routines is a collection of seven separate routines, each containing material
from the top four levels of The Physical Trumpet Pyramid, plus a set of
Tonalization studies. The bottom level , or foundation, of the pyramid is only left
out because it lacks pitches which can be written in musical notation. Please be
aware of the importance of doing daily air exercises. They should precede the
material in this book.
Where the materials in The Physical Trumpet Pyramid are meant as examples
and not to be used as a true routine; Daily Routines is the opposite. In Daily
Routines, the theories are not as important as the actual material. This book is to
be practiced, not understood. For best results, students should play one group
each day that they practice. One suggestion is to alternate days of difficulty. On
Monday, do group five, then on Tuesday do group two. That kind of alternation
will create strength.

Technical Notes
Air Exercises:

The exercises in this book are meant to be played in order. That order should begin with an air
exercise. It doesnt need to be anything complicated, using expensive equipment or elaborate
postures. You just need to spend a little time creating an air stream off of the horn. Ive used
many over the years, but the one Ive settled on is; three supported air streams blown into my
fist (or mouth piece), paying particular attention to the evenness of the air and the uninhibited
breath between air streams.

Mouth Piece Placement:

This is an exercise that I didnt include in the first edition. It started out as an exercise that I
made only my braces students do. After doing it for a while myself, I realized how valuable it is.
Its simple. Hold a sustained tone on a lip buzz, then place the mouth piece on the lips, trying
to maintain the buzz. What this does is forces the mouth piece to be placed in a position where
it can accommodate the lips.

Pedal Tones:

I am one of many people who like to do pedal tones. My problem, in developing this method,
was finding a place in the order for them. I decided long ago that this place should be between
the lip slurs and the articulation. I personally have had problems with ending a practice session
with pedal tones and Ive heard that many other players have experienced similar problems.
Nor does it make sense to begin a session with pedal tones. Since the lip slurs are the most
strenuous exercises in each group, it made sense to me to use the pedal tones to loosen the lips
in preparation for the second half of the group.

Tonalization:

These exercises are not actually part of the Physical Trumpet Pyramid. I include them as sort of
a bonus. They are scale exercises, to be practiced in only one key at a time. To me, in this
context, the word Tonalization is similar to socialization. We become socialized by our
surroundings, our social environment. The concept of the Tonalization is similar. If our scale
environment stays in the key of four flats for an extended amount of time, then we begin to
think in four flats. The movements it takes to play in that key become second nature.
These Tonalization exercises are basically comprehensive scale patterns which encompass the
range of the group. You should play them in no more than one key per day (I do one key per
week). To play them in the key of C, simply read them as written. To play them in other keys,
you can either change the key signature and begin on the first note, or you can change the key
and begin on the note which corresponds with that key. Do not transpose them. Transposing
these exercises causes them to fall out of the groups range.
Youll notice that some of the notes at the bottom are smaller. These cue like notes are to be
played only in the sharp keys.
