Most Reliable Fantasy Baseball Shortstops

(1)

Topping the list of fantasy baseball shortstops are Hanley Ramirez and Troy
Tulowitzki who at 26 and 25 figure to be staying there for quite some time.

1. Hanley Ramirez, Florida Marlins – Ramirez is a complete offensive player. In

2009, he batted .342, homered 24 times, drove in 108 and stole 27 bases.
His steal and homer totals were actually down from 2008.

2. Troy Tulowitzki, Colorado Rockies – Coming off an outstanding 2009

(.297/32/92), Tulowitzki looks to break through and hit .300 and drive in 100
runs. Don’t bet against him.

3. Derek Jeter, New York Yankees – At 36 Jeter is as good as he’s ever been.
He’s never been on the disabled list in his Hall of Fame career and his 2009
numbers in runs, slugging, average and steals were his best since 2006.

4. Jimmy Rollins, Philadelphia – Rollins looks to return to his status as one of the
most reliable fantasy baseball shortstops. He slumped to a career low .250.
Over the past six years he’s hit between 11 and 30 homers, but he’s only
been on the DL once in his career.

5. Jose Reyes, New York Mets – Reyes is looking to bounce back from a seasons
where he played in only 36 games. His numbers from 2004-2008 were
sterling, despite perception (.286/14/66, 65 steals, 113 runs scored).

6. Jason Bartlett, Tampa Bay Rays – Bartlett will try to silence the doubters who
believe his 2009 numbers were a fluke. The 30 year-old had a career year
(.320/14/66, 30 steals) that will be tough to duplicate.

7. Alexei Ramirez, Chicago White Sox – By following up his solid first year with
an equally consistent second year. If you can’t pick up one of the top
shortstops you’ll find Ramirez (.277/15/68 14 steals) to be more than
satisfactory.

8. Elvis Andrus, Texas Rangers – The speedy shortstop of the Ranger led all
shortstops with 33 steals in 2009, his rookie year. Just 21 he should better his
other categories which were solid if unspectacular (.267/6/40).

9. Yunel Escobar, Atlanta Braves – In his second full season as the Braves
shortstop Escobar scored 89 runs while batting a steady .299. He went deep
14 times and drove home 76. He’ll be 27 in 2010.

10.Miguel Tejada – Tejada rejoins the Orioles coming off an excellent 2009. He
went .300 14/76, with 88 runs scored and slugged to a .440 clip. And he was
reliable too as he played in 158 games each of the last two years.
The Indians’ Asdrubal Cabrera would be an excellent pick up for most reliable
fantasy baseball shortstop. He batted .308 and slugged .438 while scoring 81
runs and stealing 17 bases.
