Educational Outreach Programs
01/08-Present Party Animals – Fort Myers, Florida

Designed and performed animal programs for adults and children with an
educational and hands on experience. To entertain and teach the public the
necessity and viability of encountering wildlife and exotics in an up-close
and personal environment while using the Sunshine State School
Standards and protocols.

Educational Assistant/In-House Zoologist


10/05-01/08 Imaginarium Hands-On Museum and Aquarium – Fort
Myers, Florida

Duties involved the establishment and maintenance of animal collections


on display to the public to include invertebrates and marine fishes. Within
these parameters, I designed, constructed and supervised daily operations
of exhibits including an 1800 gallon touch tank, maintained nutritional
diet requirements, set up record keeping, scheduled veterinary visits and
care, purchased food items, acquired livestock, established feeding and
cleaning schedule to ensure animal health and vitality, set up a quarantine
and food prep area, obtained all necessary USDA and Fish and Wildlife
permits, computerized animal and supply inventories. I was responsible
for the development and implementation of educational outreach programs
for the community combining knowledge and humor to encourage an
increase in attendance and an interest in our natural world while
maintaining productive and positive working relationships with fellow
staff members and outside vendors.

Science and Educational Director (Interim)


11/02-07/05 The Children’s Science Center of Cape Coral- Cape
Coral, Florida (501-C3 Non-Profit Organization)

Management of the entire facility including hiring and training of


volunteer and full time personnel, maintenance of a small animal
collection and nature trail, direction of operations to include
administrative, purchasing and accounting departments. Creation and
implementation of community outreach programs with both private and
corporate entities, coordination of press release with the media regarding
fund raisers and community events, working with local Cub Scout troops
and home schooled children in accordance with the Sunshine State School
Standards, attendance at board and executive committee meetings and
fund raisings events.

Bird Keeper

I worked with one of the largest bird importer in Southern Cal. Bell Bird
Inc. He supplied the majority of Zoo’s and private breeders all over the
country. Maintained private collection consisting of toucans, weavers,
touracos, myna birds, hornbills, barbets. Fruit pigeons, rare pheasants and
many other species others.

Director of Operations
Zoo of Acadiana – Broussard, Louisiana

Took position as Director of Operations, managed all aspects of zoo


operations. Hired and trained personnel, established safety procedures to
include escape and recovery, repaired and created exhibits and areas for
quarantine, food prep and nursery, scheduled regular veterinary visits. Set
up educational classroom and developed outreach programs for the
community. Introduced and implemented AZA, USDA and FWC
standards and procedures enabling the facility to pass the USDA
inspections for the first time in the operation of the zoo.

Curator of Birds
The Zoo- Gulf Breeze, Florida

Designed and built all flight cages, trained personnel, prepared diets,
established a breeding program, produced and performed animal shows
and hands-on programs for visitors. I loaned my personal bird collection to
the facility and was responsible for maintaining all necessary
documentation and care for the collection.

Private Breeder
Ken Awsue – Trabuco Canyon, California

I was responsible for daily operation of a 12,500 acre ranch. I managed the
owners and myself private collection of approximately 256 animals
consisting of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects and birds. I designed
and built enclosures, maintained all records, prepared diets, cleaned
exhibits and scheduled veterinary care. Also provided maintenance and
repair to a 125 year old Log cabin on the property.
