1 Introduction

Compressed Air System is one of system in the ship that used to compressed air. In ge
is compressed by compressor and delivering into air reciever. Compressed air system is
by engine manufacture or product guiede (Wartsila RT-Flex 40) and class regulation (clas
There are three main funtion of compressed air system, such as :
a. Starting Engine
Compressed air is used to start engines. Staring engine devided into tho kinds :
1. Direct Starting

It is called direct starting because compressed air is injected directly into combustion
Direct starting needs high pressure, aproximately about 30 bar according to class.
2. Indirect Starting

Indirect Starting use pneumatic system, electric or pnemuatic motor with pressure a
bar. Indirect starting usually for small engine.
b. Control System (Pneumatic System)

Compress air is also used to valve actuator. Valve actuator drive some equipments, suc
valve for fire fighting, CO2 quick closing valve, LO quick closing valve, emergency stop
engine, manuvering for engine etc. Pressure for control system is about 7-8 bar.
c. General Service

General service like hydropore, blowpipe seachest, horn, cleaning for deck, workshop an
room also use compresses air. It pressure is about 3-4 bar.
