1. DESCRIPTION OF LOCATION & WORKS

ES is located in Mussafah Industrial Area (ICAD1), on the North East of Abu Dhabi
There is a local port in the Musaffah area approximately 10 km from the site and the main
Mina Port of Abu Dhabi is located approximately 50 km from the site; however a new port
is being developed at Taweelah (Khalifa Port), which will become the main industrial port
for Abu Dhabi. ES has a small jetty on the Phase 2 site for import of iron oxide pellet;
however it is not suitable for the import of plant and equipment.
The area is serviced by a road network within the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD 1)
which leads to the main Abu Dhabi motorway network approximately 8km from the site.
The general location of ES and the surrounding region is shown below in Figure 1.

2. SOIL CONDITIONS
The ES site is predominantly flat at an altitude of approximately +3.4m at Phase 1 and
+3.25m at Phase 2 above the mean sea level (MSL) Abu Dhabi Datum. Plant zero 0.00m
level, is equal to Abu Dhabi Datum +3.40m.
A large part of the Phase 2 site is made of reclaimed land from the sea, with fill recovered
during dredging operations by others prior to commencement of the Phase 1
Development. Further final levelling by ES of the Phase 2 site took place prior to
commencement of the Phase 2 development, with fill obtained during the dredging
activities for construction of the Phase 1 jetty.
The ES Phase 2 plot has been surveyed by ACES during October 2005. The soil survey
reference ACES S05000249 dated October 2005 is attached to this Volume as Schedule
P of this Volume 2 for reference.

A geotechnical survey of the Phase 1 and Phase 2 plot has been undertaken by the Arab
Centre for Engineering Studies (See Document Reference ACES Soil Survey October
2005) in addition to the surrounding utilities (See ACES Drawings Reference T080044-1 to
8) as Schedule P of this Volume 2 for reference. Since the 2008 utility survey ES has
installed on or adjacent to the Phase 2 site:

ES 220 KV Cables running from the Phase 1 Transco 220 KV incoming SubStation to the ESI Phase 2 220 / 33 KV Sub-Station (See McLellan Drawing
Reference 280200/100). The cable runs alongside the Western boundary of the
Phase 1 site in a North-South direction and turns West adjacent to the IOP
conveyor towards the Jetty.

ES 11 KV Cable running from the Phase 1 SMP Sub-Station to the Jetty SubStation located on the Phase 2 site. (See ESI sketch ref 17-000009 rev0) 11 KV
Cable installed by others in the utility corridor located to the East of the Phase 2
boundary fence line.

HP Gas pipeline installed by ES to link the Phase 1 HP Gas Receiving Station and
Phase 2 HP Gas Receiving Station. (See Danieli Drawing Reference DP02KBAA00-P7600-AD200). The HP gas pipeline runs above ground in an East-West
direction on the southern boundary of the Phase 1 site, before running

underground below the Western boundary road and re-appearing inside the Phase
2 Eastern Boundary and turning in a North-South direction towards the Main IOP
Feed Conveyor.

The above documents are provided as general reference only, contractors shall verify the
utility service routings, sub-soil conditions and actual ground levels at site to satisfy
themselves as to the adequacy and completeness of such information.

SEISMOLOGY

The UAE is on the edge of the Iranian plate, where earthquakes are experienced relatively
frequently. For design purposes the following should be taken into consideration:
For consideration with the Uniform Building Code:
Seismic Zone:

Zone 1

Soil Code:

SE

Importance Factor:

I = 1.00

The seismic peak ground acceleration risk map for the region is shown in Figure 3. The
peak ground acceleration range shown for Abu Dhabi is 1.8 2.4 m/s2.
The local regulations and legislation must be taken into account when designing buildings,
structures and equipment.

3. CLIMATE
The UAE is warm and sunny in winter and hot and humid during the summer months.
Local north-westerly winds (Shamal) frequently develop during the winter, bringing cooler
windy conditions.

Rainfall is sparse and intermittent. In most years it rains during the winter months, usually
in February or March, but occasionally earlier. Winter rains take the form of short sharp
bursts. Localised thunderstorms occasionally occur during the summer generally
appearing over the mountains of the south and east of the country.

Some years are totally dry and it is only through the regular formation of dew that
vegetation and wildlife can survive. This applies even to those places that experience a
relatively high annual rainfall

The climate is summarized as follows: - (using 2008, 2009 Data)

Temperature - The average maximum temperature reaches up to the high 40's C

to during daytime in summer while the minimum night temperature ranges from low
20s C in summer to 10 C in winter

Relative humidity The mean relative humidity ranges between 30% and 80% with
maximum peaks of 90% in summer and autumn

Atmospheric pressure values in the range of 100 kPa to 102.0 kpa have been
recorded

Rainfall The annual rainfall averages approximately 10-80 mm in Abu Dhabi with
50 mm per month maximum. However, amounts can vary from very little to almost
triple the average in any given year. Nearly all the precipitation occurs during the
wet season between November and April and the majority of the rain falls normally
occur in February. Most of the total annual rainfall often occurs over relatively short
period in only few intense storms.

Wind - The prevailing wind direction in Abu Dhabi is from the East. With an average
of 4.2 to 5.3 m/s and a Maximum wind velocity of between 8 m/s - 21 m/s

Atmospheric pressure: 100 to 1020 kPa

Maximum temperature (dry bulb): 50C
Maximum temperature (wet bulb): 33C
Maximum average temperature: 40C
Minimum temperature: 9C
Minimum average temperature: 20C

Relative humidity: - Maximum 100%

- Maximum average 80%
- Average 50%
- Minimum average 35%
Maximum wind velocity: 21 m/s
Prevailing wind direction: 315 West, North West
Average Annual Rainfall: 10mm
Maximum Annual Rainfall: 40mm

The ES site is located close to the sea in a high temperature, high humidity environment;
furthermore the water table on the site is highly saline and as a result the buildings and
exposed equipment have to be protected accordingly. For the purposes of the buildings,
plant and equipment design shall be classed as a Polluted Coastal area according to BS
5493 1977 Table 1 and the protection systems defined in Table 3 Part 3 shall apply for a
Long first life to maintenance of 10 to 20 years. All protection systems supplied to ES
shall offer the protection levels defined in BS 5493 1977.
A summary of the climatic information is shown in Table 1, which relates to the climatic
conditions measured at the Abu Dhabi International Airport during the 1980s to 1990s.
4. TRANSPORT AND LOGISTIC FACILITIES
Road access is provided from several paths through Mussafah with newly developed
roads, the distance from the main gate of ICAD1 to ES is approximately 8km.

It is not possible to deliver plant and equipment to the site via the existing Jetty on the
Phase 2 site. This jetty is for import of IOP only and is not design to import other cargo.
The above information is provided for information only.

The nearest international Air Terminals are located at Abu Dhabi Bateen and Abu Dhabi
International Airport. Both terminals are located approximately 15 to 20 km from the site.
