EE4093 SEMINAR
Pre-requisite: Nil

Each student shall present a seminar in 8th semester on a topic relevant to Electrical and Electronics Engineering
for about 30 minutes. The topic shall be approved by the Seminar Evaluation Committee of the Department. The
Committee shall evaluate the presentation of students. A seminar report in prescribed format shall be submitted
to the Department after the approval from the Committee.

Module 1: Error in numerical calculations (14 hours)
Sources of errors, significant digits and numerical instability. Solutions of non linear equations: Bisection
method, Method of false position, Newton-Raphson method, Fixed-point iteration, Rates of convergence
of these methods. Iteration based on second degree equation: Muller method, Chebyshev method,
Graeffes root squaring method for polynomials, Bairstows method for extracting quadratic factor in the
case of polynomial equations.
Module 2 Solution of system of linear algebraic equations: (14 hours)
Direct methods: Gauss and Gauss Jordan methods. Crouts triangularization method. Iterative methods:
Gauss-Jacobi and Gausss-Seidel methods, Relaxation method, Newtons method for nonlinear
simultaneous equations, Power method for determination eigen values, convergence of Power
method.Polynomial Interpolation: Lagranges interpolation, Newtons divided difference interpolation
polynomial, Gregory-Newton Forward and Back ward difference interpolation formulae, Piecewise and
Spline interpolation.
Module 3: Numerical differentiation : (14 hours)
Differentiation formulas in the case of equally spaced points. Numerical integration: Trapezoidal and
Simpson rules, Gaussian integration, Errors of integration formulas. Numerical solution of ordinary
differential equations: Single step methods: Taylor series method, Picards Method, Euler and Modified
Euler methods, Runge Kutta methods of 2nd and 4th order. Multi-step methods: Milines PredictorCorrector formulas, Adam-Bashforth and Adam-Moulton formulas.
Module 4: Boundary value problems (14 hours)
Solution of Linear difference equations with constant coefficients, Solutions of boundary value problems
in ordinary differential equations, Approximate solution of eigen value problems, Finite difference
methods for solving two dimensional Laplaces equation for a rectangular region, Finite difference
method of solving heat equation and wave equation with given initial and boundary conditions.

EE4094 CONTROL SYSTEMS LABORATORY

List of experiments:
1. To obtain the moment of inertia and develop the transfer function of the given DC Motor for (a) Armature
controlled and (b) Field controlled cases. Draw the relevant block diagrams.
2. To conduct experiments on the given amplidyne for (a) To obtain the transfer function (b)To obtain the load
characteristics under different levels of compensation (c) To obtain the characteristics of a metadyne.
3. To Study the FEEDBACK MS150 DC Modular Servo System and to obtain the characteristics of the
constituent components. Also to set up a closed loop position control system and study the system performance.
4. To design a Lead compensator and to obtain the characteristics by experiment and simulation using
MATLAB.
5. To design a Lag compensator and to obtain the characteristics by experiment and simulation using
MATLAB.
6. To design a Lag-Lead compensator and to obtain the characteristics by experiment and simulation using
MATLAB.
7. To set up a system for closed loop voltage regulation for a dc separately excited generator using amplidyne
and to obtain its characteristics.
8. To obtain the model of the Inverted pendulum and study the closed loop performance using experiments on
Bytronic Inverted Pendulum
9. To obtain the characteristics of the synchro systems and to set up a synchro link position control system
using FEEDBACK MS150 AC Modular Servo.
10. To set up a closed loop feedback control system using the FEEDBACK MS150 DC Modular Servo
System-with velocity (rate) feed back.
11. To conduct experiments on the Level Process Control Station and to study the working of a level control
loop.
12. To set up a closed loop feedback control system using the FEEDBACK MS150 AC Modular Servo
System-with velocity (rate) feed back.

The project work commenced in VII Semester shall be continued in VIII Semester (6 Hours/week). At the end of
VIII Semester, the final report describing the entire Project Work has to be submitted to the Department in a
prescribed format. Presentation of this part of the work is to be done before an evaluation committee.
