Initial Cockpit Check


Aircraft Documents:
Certificates,
MEL
Approved Manuals
Check Binder including:
F&M logs, VOR accuracy
Discrepancies, Status
Report, Deferred Items

Control Lock: Remove


Include Aileron, Rudder
And Control Quadrant locks

Initial Cockpit Check


Ice Vane Handles:
Verify they are in

Initial Cockpit Check


Pilots Static Air Source:
Verify in normal position and
switch is guarded

Initial Cockpit Check


Landing Gear Handle: Down

Parking Brake: Set


Pull plunger handle and pump brakes to set

Elevator Trim: Set to Zero

Initial Cockpit Check

Power Levers: Idle


Prop Levers: Feathered
Condition Levers: Cut-off

Flap handle: In the up position

Oxygen Gauge: Checked for proper pressure
Consider Cruise Altitude

Oxygen Masks: Check for proper connections,


position in cockpit, and flow. The oxygen
supply controls are overhead behind the
circuit breaker panel. Only pull the
CREW READY handle!!

Fire Extinguisher: Check


Security, Date, and Charge

Initial Cockpit Check


Circuit Breakers: Checked

Emergency Lights: Test


lights, verify operation, then
move switch to reset and
auto position

Electrical Switches: Verify all electrical switches
are in the correct position before turning on
battery. These include (although not all inclusive):
Audio Controls - Set
Rudder Boost ON
Radios Set
VOR and Compass Switches Set
Compass Gyros SLAVE
Flight Instruments Check
DME and Radar As required
Light Dimming Controls As required
Ice and Rain Switches OFF and RETRACT
Cabin Temp Mode OFF

Electrical Switches Continued:
Ice and Rain Switches - OFF and RETRACT
Exterior Lights and Interior Lights As required
Master Panel Lights As required
Inverters OFF
Avionics Master OFF
Environmental Switches As required
Auto Ignition and Engine Start Switches OFF
Generator Switches OFF

Initial Cockpit Check


Fire Pull Handles (T-handles): Pull. Listen for
Firewall Shutoff Valve (FSOV) Operation
(DO NOT TOUCH THE PUSH TO
EXTINGUISH LIGHT!)

Standby Pumps: Both


ON. Listen for pump
operation

Initial Cockpit Check


Battery: ON. Verify 3 green
gear lights. Check both fuel
pressure fail lights ON

Fire pull handles (T-handles):


IN one at a time. Verify each fuel
pressure fail light goes OFF with
each respective T-handle
Standby Pumps: OFF. Verify fuel
pressure fail lights ON

Initial Cockpit Check


Crossfeed: Check each side by placing
the crossfeed switch in both the left
and right positions.

Verify Crossfeed light


illuminates on the lower
annunciator panel

Verify fuel pressure


fail lights extinguish

Aux Transfer Override Switches: Verify
in auto position

Fuel Quantity: Checked

Initial Cockpit Check


Current Limiters: Check by operating
each inverter individually. If both
inverters operate normally, then both
current limiters are good

Shadin: Programmed
Battery Voltage Davtron:
Located on center console
Checked 22 volts Minimum

Landing Gear Handle Lights: Test

Annunciator Lights: Test

Stall & Gear Warning: Test

Initial Cockpit Check


Fire Detectors: Rotate knob CCW
to test all three detector positions.
Verify Fire Pull Handle (T-Handle) Lights
illuminate. Verify Master Warning Lights
illuminate
Fire Extinguishers: Continue
rotating knob CCW to test
each position. Verify Squib OK
lights illuminate in each
position.
Verify Extinguisher Discharge
Light illuminates on
Annunciator panel in each
position

Initial Cockpit Check


Battery: OFF

Emergency Exit: Secured


and unlocked

Left Wing

Flaps: Check Free Play, Condition


and Attachment

Left Wing
Fire Extinguisher Pressure:
Pressure should be.

FWD

Aileron: Condition and Attachment

Check aileron trim attachment

Left Wing

Aileron and Trim:


Check mounting bracket to airframe
Exposed red paint indicates improper
mounting
Check for radial cracks around mounting
screws.

Left Wing

Static Wicks: Checked for


attachment

Left Wing
Wing Tip: Check for security and
cracks
Nav Light: Ops check for night flight
Recog lights: Attachment, filaments

Left Wing
Fuel Cap: Check security and quantity

Stall Warning Tab: checked for security


Stall warning will not activate when tab is
moved manually. It is not connected to
the hot battery bus. See Initial Cockpit
Check slide 17 for test function

Left Wing
Tie Down: Removed
De-Ice Boots: Check condition for
nicks, cracks, wax coating,
etc

Check Stall Strip

Left Wing
Fuel Sumps: Drain 5 (6 drains if AUX tanks
installed)
Trailing edge behind
wheel well sump drain

Integral Tank Drain

Main Fuel Tank Drain

Left Wing
Fuel Filter Drain:
under engine cowling
behind oil cooler door

Firewall Drain

AUX fuel drain (if aircraft has


AUX tanks)

Note: Do not Drain fuel onto the


ground! EPA regulations require all
drained fuel to be contained. Find a
blue container by the fuel pumps at
VBW that looks like a gas can and place
all drained fuel therein.

Engine Oil & Cap: Checked 0 to 1 quart low

Left Wing
Propeller Chocks, Inlet Plugs and Chain:
Remove and stow

Left Wing
Propeller: Check for blade free play,
leading edge and face condition,
de-ice boots and spinner.
Spin Propeller in the direction of
normal rotation, listen at the
exhaust stack for a smooth
deceleration and no excessive noise
from the reduction gearing.

Left Wing
Engine Air and Oil Cooler Inlet:
Check that inlets are clear, verify inertial
separator attachment.

Engine Cowling: Checked for security.


Verify witness marks on top cowling
attach points are lined up correctly.

Left Wing
AUX Fuel: Quantity and Cap

Left Wing
Check Air-To-Air Heat Exchanger: Verify
unplugged

Inboard De-Ice Boot: Check for


security and damage

Nose Section
Windscreen: Clean with Plexo Glass Cleaner, or Windex

Check OAT probe

Check Avionics Door


for security

Check AC Exhaust port


for birds nests etc..

Check nose steering

de-ice boot on the
vertical stabilizer

With elevator trim set


to zero, check left and
right elevator trim tab
in line with elevator for
trim check

Tail Cone & Nav Light: Check
LH Stabilizer: Check
LH Elevator: Check
LH Static Port: Check
Walk Around Preflight Complete: Refer to Checklist to ensure proper coverage
of all required items.
