Introduction
Nutrition, nourishment, or aliment, is the supply of
materials - food - required by organisms and cells to
stay alive. In science and human medicine, nutrition
is the science which explains how the body breaks
food down (catabolism) and repairs and creates cells
and tissue (anabolism) - catabolism and anabolism =
metabolism. Nutritional science also examines how the
body responds to food.
Good nutrition an adequate, well balanced diet combined with regular physical activity is a
cornerstone of good health. Poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, increased susceptibility
to disease, impaired physical and mental development.
Basic Approach:
Proteins: Proteins are macromolecules made up of amino acids. They worrk as a fuel tank, 1 gram
provides 17 kJ (4 kcal).During digestion, the body breaks down the protein we eat into individual
amino acids, which contribute to the plasma pool of amino acids. This pool is a storage reserve of
amino acids that circulate in the blood. When broken down, they are used as precursors to nucleic
acid, co-enzymes, hormones, immune response, cellular repair, and other molecules essential for life.
Good protein sources are eggs, milk, fish, soya, red meat. Average adults need 50 grams of protein
daily.
Carbohydrates : Carbohydrates provide the body with glucose, which is converted to energy used to
support bodily functions and physical activity. But carbohydrate quality is important; some types of
carbohydrate-rich foods are better than others. They are generally divided in two categories: simple
carbohydrates, which digest quickly, and complex carbohydrates, which digest slowly. Sources of
simple carbohydrates include fruits, sugars and processed grains, such as white rice or flour. You can
find complex carbohydrates in green or starchy vegetables, whole grains, beans and lentils.

Women need 22 to 28 grams of fiber daily and men need 28 to 34 grams.

Fats: Despite the belief that fats are bad for you, they are required for general health. Fats help

your body synthesize fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamin D. Healthy fats include
monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. Nuts, olives and avocados are sources of
monounsaturated fats. Fish and seafood are primary sources of polyunsaturated fats. In addition,
vegetable oils, such as canola, contain both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
6 components of nutrition. Average adults need at least 44 grams of fats daily.
Vitamins: Vitamins are nutrients required by the body in small amounts.Essential vitamins include
vitamins A, B complex, C, D, E, K and folate. Most vitamins cannot be made by the body, so need to
be provided in the diet. Good vitamin sources are fruits, vegetables and nuts.
Minerals: Minerals are vital for proper human health. Essential minerals include calcium, iron, zinc,
iodine and chromium. Deficiencies can result in serious health conditions such as brittle bones and
poor blood oxygenation. Like vitamins, overdosing on minerals can result in life threatening

conditions -- for example, a potassium overdose can cause improper kidney function. Minerals are
found in a variety of foods including dairy and meat products.
Water: Human brain is composed 70% from water , and our body from 60%. It is recomanded 2-3 l
daily.
