Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophisyc Agency (BMKG) is non-department goverment
agency which works in data and information services of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics.
As the sole of meteorological institution in Indonesia, BMKG has more than 200 offices/stations
which is spreaded in all around Indonesia according to their own jobs and kind of services which is
integrated nationally. For example: Climatological Station of Pondok Betung is one of climatological
station in Indonesia that works in climatological data and information services in Tangerang and its
surrounding and

Meteorological Station of Pangkal Pinang is one of meteorological station in

Indonesia that works in weather data and infomation services in Pangkal Pinang and its surrounding
especially for aviaton. Both of stations must be having their own characteristic based on location,
quantity and quality of the officer, and the kind of the service products.

Each station of BMKG puts in different location in Indonesia. Climatological Station of


Pondok Betung is located in Java Island and Meteorological Station of Pangkal Pinang is located in
Sumatera Island. Climatological Station of Pondok Betung is located at Kodam Bintaro Rd Number
82, South Tangerang, Banten Province and it is at 06 15' 20.8" S and 106 45' 00.00" E. It is about

28 kilometers from the airport of Soekarno Hatta and it can be reached about 45 minutes by car.
Meanwhile, Meteorological Station of Pangkal pinang is located at 02 00947S and 10600814E. It is
at Depati Amir Airport Rd, Bangka Tengah regency, Bangka Island. Bangka has smaller size than
Sumatera.
Beside location, the station of BMKG in Indonesia is also divided into four classes based on
jobs and needs. The class of the station determines the quality and the quantinty of the station
including organization structure and the number of officers. Climatological Station of Pondok Betung
is in Claas II and Meteorological Station of Pangkal Pinang is in Class I . Climatological Station of
Pondok Betung led by 1 head officer helped by 1 head section of observation and data information
and 1 head of administration. Pondok Betung Climatological Station

has 3 observers, 3 data

managers, 3 forecasters, 2 technicians, 2 accountants, 3 administration staffs, 1 cleaning service, 3


securities and 3 person as observers who are still studying

in Jakarta School of Meteorology,

Climatology and Geophysics (STMKG). Meteorological Station of Pangkal Pinang also has 1 head
officer helped by 1 head section of observation, 1 head section of data and information, and 1 head of
administration. Beside that, Pangkal Pinang Meteorological Station also has 3 observers, 1 aerology
and engineering coordinator, 2 aerologiest, 1 engineer, 4 securities, and 11 observers who are still
studying in Jakarta School of Meteorlogy, Climatology, and Geophysics (STMKG).
Both Climatological Station of Pondok Betung and Meteorogical Station of Pangkal Pinang
have their own product to be shared. Some activities and products of Climatological Station of
Pondok Betung may be shared in many ways. Such as making distribution of season informations
which include bulletin, SPI, dryspell information (HTH), flood map, and season prediction.
Meanwhile, Meteorogical Station of Pangkal Pinang has different products and services. It gives flight
document such as weather information, QAM, and monthly bulletin. Beside information distribution
which is given to government, Climatological Station of Pondok Betung has annual activities such as
Climate Field School(SLI), Rain Observer Training (PPH), etc. The purpose of this activity is giving a
training to farmer and society about observation and climatology datas. So does the Meteorogical
Station of Pangkal Pinang.
Finally, both Climatological station of Pondok Betung and Meteorolgical Station of Pangkal
Pinang are part of BMKG that works for data and information of meteorology, climatology and
geophysics services. But it is important to know that they are obviously different in their location,
quantity and quality of the officer, and the kind of the service products so people can understand
where they must go regarding their needs and location.
