Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Todays gospel recounts the story of the wedding feast at Cana. Christ was merciful
and generous to the couple in need. Indeed, Christ is present in every marriage
covenant, to bring hope and to take what is good and make it better. This is a fitting
time for families to celebrate the marriages of their members, to honor their
commitment and Christs generous presence in their lives.

MOMENTS OF MERCY In Misericordiae Vultus, Pope Francis asks that we strive

for our lives to be rooted in the mercy of God. One way we can grow in this mercy is by
being receptive to the message of mercy and love that is proclaimed in the Scriptures
and in the Christian witness to faith in Jesus (MV, no. 13).
1.

Open yourself to listen to and hear the Word of God.

a. Prepare your mind and your heart by entering into a quiet space and giving
yourself time for reflection. This can
be done individually or with others, such as your family or a small group in your
parish.
2.
Ask God to open your heart to receive His words of love into your life.

3.

Read or listen to the Word of God.

a. For example, read a passage from the Bible, participate in small-group lectio
divina, or attend Mass and pay close attention to the readings during the Liturgy
of the Word.
4.
Reflect on/discuss what this passage reveals to you about God's mercy and
love.
5.
Come up with one concrete way to incorporate this revelation of mercy into
your daily actions or prayer life.

The Culture of Life sponsors a Holy Hour for Life on the First Friday of every month
at 10:00AM followed by Holy Mass and witnessing at the abortion clinic. We have
also maintained, since the summer of 2012, a Holy Hour for Religious Freedom
featuring a Patriotic Rosary every Wednesday from 1:00 -2:00PM. This years
Spiritual Adoption is about to conclude with a baby shower to be held in February.
The baby shower will benefit both the Community Pregnancy Center and the St.
Elizabeth Ministry here at St. Augustine. The Culture of Life meets in the rectory
following the 5:15 PM Mass and Benediction on the first Tuesday of every month. All
are cordially invited to participate and contribute their ideas, prayers and deeds to
answer the call of St. John Paul II to put an end to the Culture of Death, by
Proclaiming, Accepting, Celebrating and Bearing Witness to the Gospel of Life, "in
order to build together with all the people of good will, the civilization of truth and
love to the praise and glory of God the Creator and lover of life."
