IFSLU Young Professional Programme

IFSLU Overview
The main objective of the programme is to support a set of public-private partnerships (PPPs)
and initiatives which demonstrate how the private sector can contribute to a reduction in rates of
deforestation, as well as a range of related enabling activities to address the policy environment.
Expected results include improved and more sustainable prevention of deforestation,
reforestation of degraded land and leverage of private finance. The programme will also aim to
support a transformation to sustainability in markets for commodities that are associated with
deforestation, including timber, palm oil, soya, beef, paper and board. The targeted regions are
Southeast Asia, West/Central Africa and East Africa.

IFSLU Young Professional Programme Overview
The IFSLU Young Professional (YP) Programme is a one year structured professional
development opportunity designed around experiential learning to give young graduates realtime work experience aligned with IFSLUs needs and objectives. IFSLU will appoint a total of 20
IFSLU YPs over the life of the programme (5 years), i.e. one IFSLU YP per region (Ghana,
Indonesia, Ethiopia, and UK Head Office) per year.
The objectives of the IFSLU YP programme are:

To build capacity around PPPs and give exposure to PPP processes;

To provide an environment which will enable high potential graduates to develop


knowledge, skills and competencies required to build a successful career, ideally in the
forest governance and PPP arena;
To contribute to IFSLUs objectives;
To grow and build a pipeline of proven individuals who will be able to add value to IFSLU
in the future as ambassadors.

Purpose of Role
The IFSLU YP advertised here will be a key member of the South East Asia team reporting to
the Regional Programme Manager. This position will work closely with the key programme staff
based in Indonesia and the core team based in the UK. The position will be based in Jakarta,
Indonesia, and may require regional and international travel.

Duration

1 year

Primary responsibilities
The YPs primary responsibilities will be coordinated by the manager and will pertain to IFSLU in
West Africa. The position will be expected to support the project team in more technical aspect
of the project and deliver administrative, research, operational and compliance tasks. Expected
split would be 60% technical and 40% operational.
More precisely, responsibilities include but not limited to:

Work closely and collaboratively with technical teams to baseline their analysis and
reporting needs, to define key issues and opportunities, and to provide market and
stakeholder analysis;
Support and undertake internal and primary research assignments and publish findings;

Update and ensure the accuracy of project data, financial tracking tools, and project
database;
Perform meeting logistics and record minutes and action items;
Prepare contract action requests (e.g. travel, personnel additions/changes, partner,
grant, budget realignment) timely and accurately;
Actively participate in team problem solving sessions and provide data insight and
trends;
Assist in the design, implementation and measurement of programs and initiatives;
Assist in organizing, managing and coordinating various regional workshops;
Assist in generating DFID and internal reports;
Work on other tasks as required, these could include create and maintain project
management files (including deliverables, contracting and purchasing documentation,
employment documentation, expense documentation, partner engagement
documentation, field timesheets.

Education and experience required

Relevant university first degree in sectors relevant to the project (e.g. environmental
studies, agriculture, economics, business management). A Masters degree is preferable.
Evidence of experience or interest in stakeholder management, forestry, PPP,
sustainability or agriculture commodity value chains Maximum. 2 years relevant
experience is preferred.
Private sector experience is a strong plus.
Work permit and legal rights to work in the country.
