Student Information System are the primary systems for operating colleges. The Student Information System is
a student-level data collection system that allows the Department to collect and analyze more accurate and
comprehensive information. Student information systems provide capabilities for entering student records,
tracking student attendance, and managing many other student-related data needs in a college or university.

Student Information System also supports:

Handling inquiries from prospective students.

Handling the Student details.

Maintaining the Student Marks Details.

Handling Student Attendance Records.

Maintaining records of absences and attendance.

Maintaining records of Internal marks.

convenient and accessible.

To coordinate information across the system to simplify student access to University

Scope:
This project is aimed at how the institute can improve the efficiency of the services. Student Information
System is one of the application to improve the information of any particular student. This application involves
almost all the features of the information system; the future implementation will be online help for the users to
obtain information.
Project Category:
RDBMS (Relational Database Management System)
Relational Database Management System is a type of Database Management System that stores data in the form
of related tables. Relational databases are powerful because they require few assumptions about how data is
related or how it will be extracted from the database. An important feature of relational systems is that a single
database can be spread across several tables.
Process Description:
Student Detail Edit: Student details can be edited by searching for a particular student. Editing is allowed to
administrative login.
Student Details: Student details contains the personal details of any particular student which may contain
student name, fathers name, dob, address etc.
Course: Course will consists of the different options which can be opted by the student s for example like BCA,
BBM, B.Sc etc
Student Attendance Reports: Student Attendance report consists of the number of the total number of classes
attended by any particular student.
Internal Marks Details: Internal Marks gives the marks scored by the student in the internal examination held
by the colleges or universities.

A Data Flow Diagram (DFD) is a graphical representation of the flow of Student Information System. A data
flow diagram can also be used for the visualization of Data Processing. It is common practice for a designer to
draw a context-level DFD first which shows the interaction between the system and outside entities. This
context-level DFD is then exploded to show more detail of the system being modeled.

A DFD represents flow of data through a system. Data flow diagrams are commonly used during problem
analysis. It views a system as a function that transforms the input into desired output. A DFD shows movement
of data through the different transformations or processes in the system.
Dataflow diagrams can be used to provide the end user with a physical idea of where the data they input
ultimately has an effect upon the structure of the whole system from order to dispatch to restock how any
system is developed can be determined through a dataflow diagram. The appropriate register saved in database
and maintained by appropriate authorities.

Starting from the registration process, a student may come to the college for the admission in a particular
faculty and for a particular course and subject matter. He/She submits the registration form and student
registration form processing is handled by the College Administration Information Process.
College administration: College administration stores the student information in student information record. It
too collects information from the account database to know about the students payments records and from the
faculty process about the faculty information. It sends the course information to the course information process
for further processing.
Student Details: In Student Details the whole personal details of any student is stored. Which can be edited
only by authorized administrator. And can be used to viewed through anyone for any particular details.
Faculties: Faculty information which will be useful for the instructors and separating the sections of the
students.

Attendance: College Attendance keep track of the total attendance of any particular student. It stores the
attendance data of the students into the database. It too may access the student database for updating the student
attendance details and to categorize the students relating to various sections and semesters.
Course: Course Information accepts the course information from the College administration. It sends the course
completed information to the course completed database. And offer schedules to the students, assignments to the
faculty.
Examination: Examination takes the course details and course completed details from the Course examination
database and prepares the examination schedules and offers it to the students. It is responsible for processing all
the informations related to the examination.

Educational Institutions like schools and colleges will keep track of their student records like personal
details,contact details,marks details, etc. Initially there are separate book records for storing these data. but
later upon with the computerization these book records had disappeared and documents came into Existence.
Then with the effective use of Microsoft excel the problem of storing student records had solved by 50%.
Most of the institutions are satisfied with the service of Microsoft excel. Later on databases rolled over
Microsoft excel and ruled all over. this solved the problem upto some more extent. But all these are upto a part
and institutions with a large number of students are in search of a good and effective student information
management software which satisfies the needs of their organisation.

Keeping the need in view many organisations and software development companies introduced their own
software's which satisfy the needs of the educational institutions in storing, managing, accessing student
records. All these software's refer to a single term called student information management system.The
term student information management system is rapidly used in software companies and academic projects
of students. most of the students opt it as their academic mini and major project.

student information management system for storing and accessing of student records for schools and want

project Abstract:The Internet is rapidly becoming a part of the everyday lives of a majority of people in the world. People
perform various activities on the Internet and one of them is storing their data in data-base where they are
interested in. In these data bases they can post the queries and they can retrieve the required data. Obviously
there is a need of Student Information System software for management of students data.Each and every
actor has been given their respective action. Accountant, Principal and teacher can access the students
dataThis software is very easy to store the details, marks of a student In this projet, we present an
overview of all of the practical research that evaluates the quality of various conversations in student
information system

INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT

Student Information System is a software where students details are been setup by an accountant and marks are
been setup by teacher. Required data is been retrieved by the principal. This system is a hierarchical structure. It
contains certain numbers of actors. Each will have their respective actions. Students are to be registered
dynamically. For each of the actor to perform their action, they must be logged in with their respective ids. It is
a web application managing students generated content. Earlier versions were to store the details of student.
Here updating, retrieving actions are also been performed. It is prevelant is many developed countries as the
students data need to be updated dynamically Software packages are widely available on the internet and are
written in a variety of programming languages such as PHP, Java and .NET. The configuration and records of
posts can be stored in text files or in a database.

Existing System:

The data of students has been written on Microsoft Excel sheet. Taking name, id and subj. marks as each
column. There are was no privacy for students data. There were no log-in ids for actors.
Disadvantages of existing system:

There is no PRIVACY of students data.

We cant know what action is being performed by whom.

There is not register id provided for actor.

Students data can me modified without permissions.

Proposed System:
The proposed system is very user friendly, providing 3 actors. Accountant for registering a student, teacher for
adding and updating marks of a student. Where as a principal can retrieve the required data of a student.
Advantages of proposed system:

Its user-friendly.

Each of the actor has been provided with register id, with which he has to logged on to perform the
required action.

Students data is highly secured in this software.

Only the accountant has a right to register a student in database.

Only principal has a right to retrieve the details of a student.

Only teacher has the right to update the marks of a student.

Modules used:
Languages:

Java 1.5 and above, oracle8i and above Java is used for writing code and oracle is used for creating a database
and storing the student records in it.
Fore ground job by :

SWINGS using java

Swings are used in this project to create forms for a high graphical user interface experience. All the forms in
this project are created using swings.
Back ground job by:

JDBC (connecting java to oracle database)

JDBC is the java database connectivity. In the project it is used to connect the database to the application for
storing and accessing the records of the student.

procedure for operating the software

First we need to Log-in ACCOUNTANT (to register a student)

USER_ID=ACCOUNTANT

When Log-in is pressed.. Its respective Table will be created by Clicking enter we get

ADD DETAILS OF STUDENT Then we get

After entering data in required text fields click on enter the data will insert the data into the database.
FOR CONFIRMATION-------------

Here i am storing the records of 3 students in the database.

Now I need to perform TEACHER ACTIONS (ADD/EDIT/DELETE student marks)

Lets first ADD student marks.
By Clicking on TEACHER we get the below form enter the below details in the fields. User_id=TEACHER
Password= TEACHER

Entering a students NAME. Say suppose A we get

First we need to ADD STUDENTS MARKS

Enter student marks and click on enter. then the database will be UPDATED automatically with the student
marks details.

Let us enter another person marks details also. adding B students MARKS details also

Now coming to PRINCIPAL ACTIONS----------Enter the below details in the respective fields of the below form.
User_id=PRINCIPAL PASSWORD=PRINCIPAL

By Clicking on "CLICK TO KNOW THE MARKS AND FEE DETAILS" we get

Enter the student name in the text field. for example here we are entering the student name 'A'

Now by clicking CLICK TO GET DETAILS OF STUDENT WHO ACQUIRED XX MARKS We get

suppose if we want to know the Details of student who acquired 45 marks

We need to enter 45 in Text Field provided, then we get
