From the Desk of Mrs.

Bernal
I hope you had the time to relax
and enjoy time with your family
and loved ones. It looks as if
winter is slowly moving in, so
remember to send your child
with hats, gloves and winter
coats. They will continue to go
outside for recess.
Now that students are back,
they will be completing the
following assessments:
MAP Reading/MAP Mathcomputer based assessment that
is read to the child
Math Diagnostic-paper-pencil
assessment
Fountas and Pinnell (F&Ps)assesses student reading fluency
and comprehension to determine
reading level. These
assessments will be used to
determine the progress your
child has made, along with

intervention, enrichment
and instruction. Your childs
F&P score will be on the grade
card that is being sent home
Friday, January 8th. If you have
any questions regarding your
childs progress once you receive
your grade card, please do not
hesitate to contact your childs
teacher.

Bernals Lunch
Buddies
Students had a great
time interacting with the
Heidelberg basketball players
during Bernals Lunch
Buddies. The players ate
lunch with the students, read
them a book and just spent
time talking to them.

Leaderizing our Awards Assembly

One focus for implementing the 7 Habits is finding ways to leaderize events we are currently
doing. Every year we have an awards assembly to recognize student achievements in various
areas. We felt this was the perfect opportunity to allow some students to take an active
leadership role! Anthony and Daishaughn, from Mrs. Smiths class, announced the students
names. Students from Mrs. Selfs class handed out the awards and shook hands with all the
students that received an award. The students did a fantastic job leaderizing our awards
assembly!

Polar Express Night

A Special
Visitor
Before break, we had a special
visitor at Riley School! Each
class came to the library for milk
and cookies with Santa. Santa
was able to give each child a gift
thanks to the generosity of Stone
Bridge Churchs Operation
Home Front and the Fostoria
Dollar Tree.

Thank you to everyone that

attended our Title I, Polar Express
Night in December! We will have
another Title I night in the spring.
We are looking forward to another
great turnout!
