A state is an organized community living under a unified political system, the government.[1] States may be sovereign.
The denomination state is also employed to federated states that are members of a federal union, which is
the sovereign state.[1] Some states are subject to external sovereignty or hegemony where ultimate sovereignty lies in
another state.[2] The state can also be used to refer to the secular branches of government within a state, often as a
manner of contrasting them with churches and civilian institutions (civil society).
The most commonly used definition is Max Weber's,[6][7][8][9][10] which describes the state as a compulsory political
organization with a centralized government that maintains a monopoly within a certain territory.
A state is a community of persons more or less numerous, permanently occupying a definite portion of territory,
having a government of their own to which the great body of inhabitants render obedience, and enjoying freedom from
external control.
