Kanninen 1971
He developed an analytical model for a double cantilever beam on a Winkler
foundation to obtain the relationship between end-displacement, load at the end,
crack length and beam geometry. He then computed the stress intensity factors
to show the effect of crack length on the results for stable crack propagation. For
dynamic crack propagation, he proposed a simple functional form of the energy
release rate depending only on crack speed and computed crack speeds in
presence or absence of end effects to show that they may not always be
negligible in comparison to the wave speeds in a material.
2. Chow 1979
He studied the case of two materials bonded with an adhesive in a DCB setup
where the adhesive layer was regarded as the elastic foundation. He calculated
the strain energy release rate using BEF and the fracture toughness based on
the Dugdale model. Then he showed agreement with FEM simulations as well
comparison between theory and experiments. Main outcomes were expressions
for COD based on beam geometry, end displacement and loads.
3. Kim 1988
He analysed peeling of elasto-plastic films bonded on an elastic substrate under
pure bending. He first obtained an expression for normalized peel force on a film
by force and moment balance. Assuming the adherends behave elastically under
small strain, he calculated the curvature to obtain equations for calculating the
(x,y) coordinates of the bending film.
4. Kinloch 1994
He studied the effect of plastic bending of the peeling arm of the flexible
laminate. He used large displacement beam theory to describe the deformation
process and considering root rotation at the peel front. He then did peel test
experiments with four different polymer films and peel angle was changes from
30deg to 180deg. Tensile tests were also performed. The experiments and theory
were compared to prove that deformation due to bending plays a role in
affecting the energy of the system. Effect of peel angle, thickness of the peeling
arm and mode mixity were also studied.
5. Wei 1998
The interface strength does not play a factor in peeling in absence of plastic
deformation. He studied the peel behavior assuming a cohesive zone model and
taking plastic deformation into account. The effect of interface strength and peel
angle on the load of peeling was analyzed.
6. Parmigiani 2007

They studied the phase angle to describe the partitioning between mode I and
mode II fractures. ABAQUS simulations were done for mixed mode fracture with
TSR formulation. Mode independent and mode-dependent fracture were studied
to show the effect of fracture toughness, interface toughness and modulus
mismatch.
7. McMeeking 2014
Peeling of elastic membrane tape adhered by a uniform TSR (constant stress and
then zero). Force equilibrium and curvature analysis. Sliding was permitted for
the tape being peeled from an end. Obtained equations relating force required to
the TSR, beam geometry and stretch ratios in the tape.
