WHAT IS TECHNOLOGY
Technology is defined as the set of knowledge and techniques applied in a
logical and orderly, enable humans to modify their material or virtual
environment to meet their needs, that is, a combined process of thought and
action in order to create useful solutions.
Technology responds to the desire and willingness that people have to
transform our environment, transform the world around us looking for new and
better ways to satisfy our desires. The motivation is the satisfaction of needs or
wants, the business is the development, design and implementation and the
resulting product are the goods and services or the methods and processes.
This human activity and its resulting product is what we call technology. Thanks
to her we have multiple systems that allow us, for example, communicate,
move, dress, feed or make new objects.
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
It is quite common to confuse technology with applied science, defining
technology as subordinate to scientific activity; however, it is one of the most
widespread clichs about the nature of technological activity.
First, motivation, activity and products of science and technology are different.
The motivation of science responds to the desire of people to meet and
rationally understand the world around us and the phenomena associated
therewith, the activity is research and the resulting product is scientific
knowledge.
Second, while it is true that technology uses scientific knowledge, also based
on experience, often it uses empirical knowledge and takes into account many
other factors, such as the practical aspects of construction or industrial
production, the ways and means of production, economic feasibility, product
adaptation to the customs of user acceptance that the product may or may not
be in the public, etc ... In addition the technology is mainly linked to things,
physical or virtual, that man does, artificial things.
Also, note that science also uses technology, it is necessary to advance the
investigation. Technological development without progress in scientific
knowledge is not possible, nor is science possible without the contribution of
the equipment and systems needed for research. The relationship, therefore, is
not subordinate, but complementarity. In the contemporary world, Science and
Technology are linked by a relationship of interdependence very large, but the
activities are linked to one another and substantially different and
complementary.
TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION
The educational system is structured in a number of areas, and the set of
materials science and technology are conceived within the scientific and
technological field, and dent Mode of Science and Technology in high school,
addressing among all science education and global and comprehensive
technology.
Leave to conceive a scientific and technological scope and only address
scientific subjects would be detrimental to science education, because in
addition to stop showing the relationship between science and technology
would be taught many scientists to apply mathematical knowledge and
procedures in situations and contexts technology of everyday life.
