CMA CGM port cards are means of gathering port information and experience by
individuals and shared by all. It is neither to-do-list but a summary of what an
experienced master would advise a colleague who does not know the next port he is
scheduled to call at.
Port card are not intended to replace official publications ALRS, navigational charts,
etc Port cards are supplementary information written by ships masters. Masters
are invited to maintain port cards updated and corrected whenever change or
correction
is
noted.

COMPANY REGULATION: NONE

The regulations included in this section are mandatory for CMA-CGM owned fleet.
Chartered vessels are invited to act accordingly without prejudice to owners
particular guidance.

Madagascar International Container Terminal (MICT)

ENVIRONMENT

Weather. From April to October a strong South-east Trade Wind blows almost
unceasingly, causing a heavy swell. Sometimes wind is blowing strongly the swell
associated with the cyclone can make the harbor unusable.

APPROACHES / POINT OF NO RETURN

The main approach is from E, on the alignment of leading lights:


Front light (white triangle on pyramidal tower), exhibited near the coast.
Rear light (white pyramidal structure, black stripe), 5 cables from front light. Direction
light.
The alignment (277 deg) of these lights leads W through Grande Passe de lEst into
Passed u Nord, passing N of Le Petit Recif.
Entrance channel.
From a position at the W end of Grande Passe de lEst, 2 miles E of the front leading
light described above , the line of bearing 190 deg. of a light, exhibited from the Port
Office.
W of Le Grand Recif.
Thence:
E of Pointe Tanio Light.

POINT OF NO RETURN : 1.0 nm from the Pointe Tanio Light.

PILOTAGE

Pilotage is compulsory and is available 24 hours. The pilot boards inside the reefs
about 2 miles NNE of Pointe Tanio.

TUGS

Tugs are available.


Compulsory: Yes.
Ships lines in use.
8.

LIMITS

There are no designated port limits.


9.

BERTH/BERTHING

The longest berth is on the W side of the largest , Mole C , 525 m in lenth with a
maximum depth 11.5 m. It is mainly used for bulk cargo, containers and has RO-RO
facilities.
Mole C:
C1: Lenth - 180m; Depth - 9.7m
C2: Lenth - 168m; Depth - 10.0m.
C3: Lenth - 177m; Depth - 11.5m.
Usually vessel goes port side alongside, one tug for AFT station for pushing only.
Unberthing. We use 2 tugs: AFT(ships line), FWD(assisting)to turn the vessel to the
starboard side

CAUTIONS

Approach to Tamatave may be affected by uncertain currents and strong N or S sets


may be experienced at any time.
Depth of up to 1,25 fathoms (2.5 meters) shallower than charted exist between
Grande Passe de lEst and the port of Tamatave.
