Contractor Bituminous Testing Spreadsheet provided by Mn/Dot D2

Spreadsheet History
April 2003

* Original Release of Bituminous Testing Spreadsheet by District 2A Construction in Bemidji.

* Joel Melvie Bemidji Construction - TRF Construction as of October 2004.
* Todd Vonasek Res. Engineer Bemidji Construction
Bituminous Testing Spreadsheet was created to promote consistency and uniformity in Bituminous Testing Documentation on
* The
Projects

* The Spreadsheet was written to follow procedures consistent with MN/DOT and AASHTO.
*

It is the intention for use that the contractor print off a blank copy of the spreadsheet and record raw data in the appropriate boxes.
To complete the process, this data would be transferred to the spreadsheet where calculations are made and test reports can be
printed, as well as saved electronically. It has been found that costly errors have been reduced by using this method, as it allows
contractors to keep a clean chain of documentation to review, as well as improve MN/Dot inspectors ability to review documentation
in a timely manor and communicate findings with contractors.

April 2004
Additional Programming added to the Contractor's Bituminous Testing Spreadsheet as follows

* Addition of Command Key to "Validate" that required information has been entered into the spreadsheet
* Addition of calculations for AFT pilot spec. (Informational only at this time.)
*

"Protected Design" language added to discourage modification to the testing spreadsheet. This spreadsheet was created to
promote consistency and uniformity in documentation which is beneficial to contractors and MN/Dot alike. Modifications are not
authorized by the original designers and the spreadsheet may not be accepted as "approved software or forms", if modifications
are made.

April 2006

* Adjustments made to AFT calculations as specification changes to make corrections.

* Bituminous Office posted spreadsheet on website
May 2008
Version 5/13/2008

Specification Change in 2008 Required Reprogramming of Spreadsheet, Specifically Bulk Specific Gravity Area

* Bituminous specification changes to Gyratory calculations allowed for Gyratory sheet to be removed.
* New procedure to calculate Bulk Specific Gravities at Design Gyrations reformatted layout of that area of spreadsheet.
* Increase size of cells in Bulk Specific Gravity Area. Made it necessary to change some format layouts.
* Additional calculations block added to front of testing spreadsheet that were once located on the gyratory sheet.
* Correction made to AFT calculation to correct programming error.
* Made minor format layout changes to Gradation area.
* AFT format layout will appear different.
* Formulas used for calculations have been "cleaned" by utilizing cell "naming" to improve formula readability.
* FAA Trials have been changed to display and round to 0.1%, (Final FAA remains whole number).
* Tolerance check of 0.5% has been added between FAA Trials.
Comment boxes to Bulk Specific Gravity Section to serve as reminders for Puck Heights.
* Added
Marshall 2.50in. (+/-) .125in.
Version 5/23/2008

* Calculation error in Asphalt Content corrected (error was found in moisture correction).
