PROPER ALLOCATION OF WASTE FROM

CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES WITHIN METRO
MANILA
Introduction
Background of the Study
Metro Manila is known as a city of metropolis crisis that has been arise early 1991s
up through the years generally being operated through dump sites resulting to
illegally on the private lands produces heavily polluted areas around the city.
Several dumpsites has been operated during early 1990s including the city of
Payatas and Catmon dumpsites. Filipinos knows Metro Manila dump sites are being
exposed, dangerous and generally through toxic liquids. This process may be
another visible process of collection and expansion through the site which the
solutions in longer-term and other sustainable option for the waste segregation and
collection at very slow communication. With the efforts of the government can give
a dramatically scaled to lighten up the effects of wave of garbage was being
generated in Metro Manila.
The construction industry has played an important role in the development of any
country in the world. It has contributed so much to the establishments that we can
see in our generation. Due to the uprising of this industry, there are several
consequences that we may face in exchange of the improvement of our cities
waste products. Waste products are by-products that are eliminated because they
are no longer useful after the completion of a process, and in the long run, if people
would ignore it and just let it lie around, it may lead to depletion of our resources.
Generally the construction waste is well defined for by-products coming from the
construction, demolition and renovation of workplaces or the works of civil
engineering and site of the building. A survey has found from the book of solid
waste development as 67% of the residents in Metro Manila has a very serious
problem dealing with the waste (garbage) liquid or solid disposal which 73% did not
want to see the sanitary landfill in their community. The landfill is a system of trash
and garbage disposal in which the waste is buried between the layers of earth
building up low lying land also called as sanitary landfill.

In our generation, many have developed several ways to maintain cleanliness in the
construction site and observing proper allocation of waste products. Some have
even thought of innovative ways that could rebuild waste into something useful.
Engineering industry, being one of the leaders among the industries that exist, is
thriving business across the world.

Problem Statement
Due to inappropriate distribution of waste production from the companies in
construction, the people within Metro Manila encounter garbage crisis to its massive
and urgent overhaul nearly to the river or streams which destroys the system of the
water and land properties. Construction waste must be segregated which means the
company should ensure there project must reliable for the instances of facilities
where the people near to their site which covers the excavated material for an
example. Also leachate or liquid runoff where the levels of contaminants leak to
untreated groundwater, a source of water and fisheries resources. When this crisis
continues with environmentally and socially absence, the function of the system in
waste reduction, reuse, recycling and disposal might be disregarded.
In spite of this instances the government of MMDA (Metropolitan Manila
Development Authority) and DENR (Department of Environmental and Natural
Resources) provides a lucrative business for this waste that spent annually around
3.54 billion from waste collection and disposal. The sanitary engineers make an
incremental step to accommodate logical path for the waste from the companies
which enable to be efficient in their use of materials. Constructing large sanitary
landfills could be a solution for some engineers typically to the problems of leachate
for the levels of contaminants that was used. Unfortunately when the landfill was
being minimized, improvement of environment and lessen of carbon emissions, this
issue required specific allocation which the quantity of the production could access
and not be violated. So every contractors in a companies seek a responsibility of
waste control to redress the problems arising from the site and near domestic
houses.

Objectives
The main case of this study is to rend the proper allocation of the waste production
from the construction which is in the process which seeks improvement and
development of the land and water system which the companies:

Determine the design and specifications which can contribute for the amount
of waste generated during the construction of the project within Metro Manila
Know how to classify those waste being discharge
Evaluate the strategies used from construction activities from its location
Identify the concept of mass production and placement of the waste
production primarily from the distribution of waste management plans
To find out the effective implementing waste reduction solution and become a
green construction for the next level of construction

Provide community bases initiatives through the process of composite and

the 3 Rs (reuse, reduce and recycle)
To control the amount of waste as much as possible to decrease the waste
disposed rate than the recent construction

Significance of the Study

The importance of this will aspire in promoting proper allocation of waste disposal
and observation of cleanliness in the construction site. This study will pave way for
more innovations in the construction industry regarding the different ways on how
we could allocate wastes, if they could be recyclable or turned into something else
that would be useful in the environment or the community. This will also be
beneficial
to
the
construction
workers,
nearby
residents,
and
the
company/contractor itself in a way that, if the company will be able to maintain and
set their goals, they would be remarkable in the industry making themselves more
trustworthy resulting to attracting many clients. By understanding the needs of the
country to be more urbanized and sanitary at the same time, the company that will
practice proper methods in maintaining cleanliness are assured of competitive
advantage.
It is to present the issues and solutions which Metro Manila has been experiencing
throughout the years which deals with waste discharge specifically through water
and land. With this kind of issue, the engineers are obliged to prevent this problem
and investigate the ways which rend the allocation for the waste production from
the companies in construction. The works provided for the production will be
potentially notice regarding to its effects to be manufactured mechanized through
composting. It shows the facilities of the actions for the improvement of the waste
and detailed reports for its advantages and disadvantages.
It can implement some basic low-cost engineering and environmental upgrades at
each facility which comply with the controlled dump site standards. Could review
and evaluate composting technologies and programs for the production and explore
the process on how its capability will improve. Prepare adequate materials for the
uses which can straight ahead through the measures and generates large quantities
of waste and contractors which its key to a role reducing the waste from rivers and
stream. There are aspects of the material efficiency which could be product
selection and waste management by which minimizing the amount being generated
and can make major contribution for good allocation.
Moreover, this study will be helpful in the industry particularly in engineering
practioners in informing their designated departments about the hazards one must
observe in the construction site. Through this, the workers wont only keep the
environment safe, but they also learn how to keep themselves safe from possible
contamination or pollutants brought about by the waste coming from the site. And

importantly, this research will make the clients aware whether this this industry is
actually fulfilling its responsibility towards the society.

Scope and Limitation

This study was conducted to determine the appropriate solutions that could perform
from having a productive allocation regarding the waste from big companies dealing
with construction. This situation is a challenge for every engineers mostly from the
sanitary and environmental which can give more information to the techniques and
can implement reducing the waste disposal. Practically in Metro Manila there are
instances the economic opportunities in comprises for the relevant use of waste
being produced. The responsibility of the company should be aware on the
possibilities of the problems will be encounter and making a difference not from
destroying it but to implement new facilities and development for the future use.
The capability to manage waste where being discharge must correct placement. The
accurate engineering and other technical use from the data that the agencies
gathered from these practices virtually left for the facilities. Preparing for further
assessment in Metro Manila must act immediately concerning verbal site reports
until this promises will achieve from its cause and effects through the environment
and for the people.
