Optometry IPA Endorses Eclipsys PeakPractice as

Preferred EMR
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Eclipsys Corporation (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company,
today announced that Eclipsys PeakPractice electronic medical record (EMR) solution recently
received preferred provider endorsement by the National EyePA Coalition (NEyePA), a large
independent physician association (IPA) representing 4,900 optometrists and ophthalmologists in 28
IPAs in 26 states. Under terms of the endorsement, FoxFire Systems Group, a South Dakota-based
value added reseller (VAR) of PeakPractice with a strong reputation in providing education,
consultation and system implementation to its clients, will be the preferred EMR provider to the IPA.
We selected Eclipsys PeakPractice solution because it is backed by a large enterprise vendor with a
strong health information exchange (HIE) strategy and a positive track record for helping clients
look to the future to achieve significant outcome improvements, said Dr. Dave Reynolds, Executive
Director of the NEyePA. In addition, PeakPractice is the only EMR in our market that is CCHIT
certified, instilling even more confidence in the interoperability and information exchange
capabilities the solution will provide to our optometrists.
New Capabilities Needed to Achieve Meaningful Use and Avoid Reimbursement Impact
According to Korry Petterson, president of FoxFire Systems Group, optometrists will find themselves
under increased pressure to meet the expected Meaningful Use requirements of the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), not only in 2011, but through 2015. If providers
havent adopted an EMR by 2015, they will start to see reductions in their Medicare reimbursements,
explained Petterson. The reality is that approximately 40 percent of patients seen by optometrists
are on Medicare, yet a predominant amount of optometrists still use paper documentation to track
their patients.
PeakPractice appeals to a wide variety of physician specialties, such as optometry, because the
state-of-the-art technology enables users to customize specific workflows based on how they practice
medicine. Eclipsys PeakPractice is an integrated, award-winning, .NET-based ambulatory EMR
solution that includes e-prescribing, patient portals, patient kiosk, image management and a Web
portal for physicians and patients. By selecting PeakPractice, members of the IPA also will be
equipped to utilize Eclipsys vendor-neutral HIE platform, Eclipsys HealthXchange, powered by
Medicity, another important capability given that optometrists frequently refer patients to other
specialists such as endocrinologists and ophthalmologists.
PeakPractice solution (version 1093) is a CCHIT Certified 08 Ambulatory electronic health record
(EHR), and meets the Certification Commissions EHR criteria for office-based use. The CCHIT
Certified seal of approval for EHR products provides a consensus-based, government-recognized
benchmark for ambulatory EHR products. By looking to products with the CCHIT Certified seal,
physicians and other providers can reduce their risk in selecting an EHR product, allowing them to
focus their evaluation on the special needs of their practices.
We congratulate Korry and FoxFire Systems Group for the dedication that led to earning the respect
and trust of the NEyePA, said Jay Deady, Eclipsys executive vice president of Client Solutions.
Optometrists play an important role as gatekeepers in the physician community, frequently referring
patients to other specialists. By supporting NEyePA members to realize their clinical innovation and
business goals, FoxFire Systems Group and Eclipsys PeakPractice EMR solution will be playing an

important role in connecting the larger care community across the nation.
