Thanks to God with grace and bless for this study can be carried out without any
problems and obstacles. Everything went well according to what is planned and set. This study
was conducted to complete the course requirements EDU 575 Action Research. We would like to
express our gratitude and thanks to Madam Lim Wai Fun for her advice, guidance and a lot of
help to the complete our study.

RainNic Techique to Improve Students Ability


to Memorize History Subject Facts

Abstract
RainNic was the technique to improve student ability to memorize history fact using
mind map and mnemonic. These studies involve 30 students from 4 Musytari and a
teacher in history subject at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Setapak Indah. We
conduct pre-study based on give questionnaire to 10 students, interview history
teacher of 4 Musytari and make classroom observations. The result on pre-study we
determine that student did not interest during history lesson and show bad
attitudes such as truancy, talking with friends and show boring faces. Therefore
RainNic technique can help teachers teach more effectively so as to increase the
interest of students to learn history and remember the facts.

1.0 Reflections on previous teaching and learning


Most of from 4 student in Musytari class share the same problems that is
difficult to remember the history key point. Because of that, student having
problem to remember a lot of facts so it affect the outcome of last exam. Apart of
that, student state that them facing boring note everyday but do not know how to
do interesting notes.
This problem identified by pre-study that was done in SMK Setapak Indah. We
distribute questionnaire to 10 students , than students must choose the correct
answer according to them perceptions. When all students finish answer the
questions, we collect the questionnaire back.

We also interview history teacher(Pn.Suhaila Bt Muhammad). Several


questions we asked such as teacher how long she been teaching this subject. We
also ask teacher share their observation to their student.

Last method that we use to identify problem is by observations. We observe


student during teaching and learning process. We seat at the back of class and
observe student attitude and class environment during lesson.

We also found that student cannot answer teacher questions about the
previous subtopic in every history class. This actually shows us that teaching old
method chock and talk not give big impact to learning process. Teacher must mix
old method of teaching with other method like RainNic technique to make teaching
and learning more interesting and help student easy to remember the facts.
This problem need to be solved for increase student mark and achievement
in examinations. So that, learning environment will enhance and effectively.
Students will be interested to learn history and then be able to recall facts easily.
Students are no longer boring and shows bad attitude in class such as talking with
friends during lesson.
For us, history is not difficult because we learn about what already happen
before this. So history is never change, but what is difficult is to attract students to
interested to learn this subject. We believe RainNic technique can solve the
problems faced by students and teachers.
The process provides a mind map and mnemonic is very easy and can be
implemented easily by teachers and students
2.0 Focus of this study
This study will focus on the problem faced by the students in improving
students ability to memorize historical fact in history subject.

Objective of the study


3.1General objective
1. To determine if rainbow mind mapping and mnemonic method can be
used in the teaching and learning of history subject.
2. To identify if rainbow mind mapping and mnemonic method can
motivate student in learning History subject.
3.2Specific objective
1. Student are able to create them own rainbow mind map and mnemonic
method and used it to remember the fact of history subject

4.0 Target group


Our target group is 30 students from 4 Musytari from history class, art stream
at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Setapak Indah. We choice intermediate level of
student during conduct the research.
