PROVISIONAL SUM PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS

7.

An interlining shall be installed beneath the face fabric in the event a


translucent fabric has been specified.

8.

Field-measure each space with a stretch ceiling.

9.

Fasten the rails at the perimeter of each room using mitered cut comers and the
appropriate fixing technique for each type of surface as recommended by
Manufacturer.

10.

Heat the ceiling membrane to release the sheet for installation purposes.

11.

Extend the membrane into the rails with the appropriate tool recommended by
Manufacturer.

12.

After the membrane is completely secured, the heating source should be


removed to allow the membrane to recover to its designated size, free of
wrinkles.

13.

Make all required penetrations for lights, HVAC, sprinkler systems, etc. and
secure the opening with a reinforcement ring or square using the appropriate
technique for each item as recommended by Manufacturer.

14.4.4

Finishes Above Suspended Ceiling

1.

Apply full coat of plaster to CMU walls and smooth concrete soffits.

2.

Apply acrylic paints to walls and ceiling as specified in Section 26 Painting


and decorating.

14.4.5

Cleaning

1.

Clean the complete ceiling installation and adjoining construction as required.

2.

Provide a written recommendation for cleaning and maintenance Procedure


including a list of approved cleaning products.

14.4.6

Protection

1.

The contractor is responsible for protecting the fabric ceilings from damage
from other trades.

RAISED ACCESS FLOORS

17.1

GENERAL

17.1.1

Scope: this Section is for the specification of proprietary raised access flooring
comprising modular floor panel and elevated support system, including floor
coverings, finishes, associated trim, fixings and accessories, as follows:

1.

Gravity-held panels on bolted stringer understructure.

17.1.2

Submittals

1.

Drawings: submit co-ordination, fabrication and installation drawings and other


information showing such details of the work as the Engineer may reasonably
require, including but not necessarily limited to the following:
manufacturers product data for each type of access floor specified
complete layout of access flooring based on field-verified dimensions
dimensional relationships to adjoining work and installation tolerances
details, with descriptive notes indicating materials, finishes, fasteners, typical
and special edge conditions, accessories, understructure, and other data
required to permit a full evaluation of entire access floor system.

2.

Samples: submit samples of each type of raised access floor consisting of actual
component units or sections of units showing the standard range of colours,
textures, and patterns available for each type of floor covering and exposed
finish indicated.
Obtain approval of appearance and other relevant
characteristics before proceeding with manufacture or delivery.

3.

Mockups: for each type of raised access flooring submit a complete a sample
area, to demonstrate aesthetic effects and set quality standards for materials,
fabrication and installation. Construct the sample area being part of the finished
work, in approved locations and size not less than 10 m2, including relevant
fixings and accessories. Obtain approval of appearance before proceeding with
further fixing.
Locations of Mockups: As directed by the Engineer.
Extent of Mockups: Approximately 9 sq. m of surface for each product
indicated.
Approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at
time of Substantial Completion.

4.

Guarantee: Provide complete system warranty in which Manufacturer Installer


and Contractor are jointly and severally responsible and agree to repair or
replace, without limitations, all or any part of the raised access flooring system
which fails or becomes defective in materials or workmanship within specified
guarantee period. Defects not limited to:
Deterioration of metals, metal finishes, and other materials beyond normal
weathering.

Structural failures including, but not limited to, excessive deflection.


Noise or vibration caused by thermal movements.
Adhesive or cohesive adhesive/ sealant failures.
Guarantee Period: three years from date of Substantial Completion.
17.2

MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS

17.2.1

Raised Access Floors: comprising 600 x 600 mm panels supported on


adjustable metal pedestals and supplied complete with manufacturer's standard
ramps, steps, fascias, bracing and plenum dividers, accessories and fixings.
Panels are to be constructed as follows:

Fibre-reinforced calcium sulphate panel, steel sheet at bottom, surrounding


edge trim protection against damage and humidity edges inclined, steel panels
shall be welded steel components with an enclosed bottom pan formed in a
uniform pattern of square pockets. The unitized panels shall be internally filled
with a calcium sulphate material to improve sound characteristics. Top surface
should be able to receive the specified floor covering.

Floor Panel Covering: indicated type.

17.2.2

Loading: access flooring systems, including those with cutouts, shall be able to
support safely min design loads as follows:

Stringer Systems: stringer system shall be all steel construction designed and
fabricated to interlock with pedestal head and to form a modular grid pattern

Fastenings and Fixings

Fastenings: to be same metal as item being fixed with matching coating or


finish and supplied by manufacturer of composite item unless otherwise
specified.

Wood Screws: generally to BS 1210, non-ferrous types for external use, and
aluminium or austenitic stainless steel for use with aluminium components.

3.

Bolts, Screws And Nuts: to BS 4190.

4.

Machine Screws And Nuts: to BS 4183, BS EN ISO 1580 & BS EN ISO 7045.

5.

Self-Tapping Screws: to BS 4174, BS EN ISO 1479 & BS EN ISO 7049

17.3

WORKMANSHIP

17.3.1

Fixing

1.

Storage: do not deliver to site materials which cannot be immediately unloaded


into suitable conditions of storage. Unload, handle and store materials to
manufacturer's recommendations.

17.3.2

Protection

1.

prevent distortion of materials during transit, handling and storage

2.

prevent damage to arrises, projecting features and surfaces exposed in finished


work

3.

prevent contact with mud, ashes, plaster and cement

4.

retain protective coverings in place for as long as practicable and keep dry.

17.3.3

Raised Access Floor: install strictly in accordance with manufacturer's


instructions to fulfil specified design and performance requirements. Provide
bridgings and bracings as required and provide additional pedestals to support
cut panels. Provide access covers where required. Install expansion joints,
framing around columns and all other ancillary works as required.
