Onboarding Roles and Responsibilities

Manager Your manager is your point-person for onboarding. S/he will prepare for
your arrival by securing appropriate assets (PC, phone, etc.) and ensuring that a
workspace has been set up for you (if you are site-based). Your manager will also
develop goals and objectives, a training plan, and an assimilation plan to help you come
up to speed.
Administrator If an administrator is assigned to your group, this person will assist
your manager with preparation activities, such as ordering assets and setting up your
workspace. On your first day, the administrator may also help you set up your
computer and voice mail, as well as assist with other office/administrative activities.
HR Manager and/or HR Generalist Your HR Manager and/or HR Generalist serves as
a resource for you regarding benefits and HR processes. If you are site-based, your HR
Manager or HR Generalist may or may not be located at the same site.
Buddy Your buddy will typically be a peer or colleague. The buddy role is an informal
one, a friendly face that ensures you feel comfortable in the new environment. S/he
can be a resource on how to get things done, social opportunities, local area
attractions, etc. If you have not been assigned a buddy, contact your manager.
Staffing Staffing is a dedicated team within HR that handles the processing of your
offer letter. Any questions you may have regarding the offer packet you receive
including the offer details, the eOffer website, background check, drug screen, or the
joinge.com website should be directed the staffing contact listed on your offer letter.
New Hire You play an active role in the onboarding process. Your first task, after
accepting the job offer, is to enroll in benefits. If you are an external hire, this step is
critical to receiving your first paycheck and activating benefits. Failure to enroll in
benefits within the required time period could result in a delay in receiving the first
paycheck and forfeit of benefits. Upon starting your job, you will spend some time
completing online training and learning how to use the GE intranet and various tools.
Depending on your role, you may also order assets/equipment needed for your role,
such as business cards, corporate credit card, software, etc. Check with your manager
to see if an administrator is available to assist with some of these activities.
