3rd ANNUAL COLLEGE STATION 10 CROWNS NEW

CHAMPIONS IN GREENE AND STAVINOHA; SEES 60% GROWTH
THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (February 2, 2016) San Antonio natives Mark Greene
and Trisha Stavinoha brought a little Alamo City running flair to Aggieland to kick off the
2016 Texas 10 Series by winning the third annual College Station 10 on Sunday in respective
times of 56:50 and 1:09:27.
With the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum as a backdrop, the duo led an
event record 399 ten-mile runners across a finish line which earned each of them $150 for
the victory.
The Texas 10 Series, whose mission is to promote the advancement of running while
supporting the community with positive economic impact, health initiatives and educational
benefits, is a premier running race series in its fifth year that is hosted in seven different
Texas cities.
Fresh off of winning last December's Humana Rock 'N' Roll San Antonio Marathon,
Greene, 25, led wire-to-wire and picked up an additional $75 for being the first runner to
cross the five-mile split, doing so in 28:26 on the two-loop course which went through and
around the Texas A&M University campus.
Valhalla Racing's Lars Finanger, 35, of Spring was a minute behind Greene at mile
five but Midland's Connor Brock, 23, and Katy's Matthew Manning, 35, caught him on the
second loop to finish second and third overall in 59:39 and 59:46, respectively.
Greene, whos training to go sub-1:10 at the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in Duluth,
Minnesota this June, becomes the first mens three-time winner of the Texas 10 Series after
winning Boerne 10 last April and Fort Worth 10 last October.
Stavinoha, the 39-year-old United States Army sports dietitian stationed at Fort Sam
Houston, had her work cut out for her as 2015 Huntsville 10 winner Barb Morcombe, 33, of
College Station led her by seven seconds in 34:30 at five miles -- to grab the $75 prime.
However, the winner of the 10K at December's Rock 'N' Roll San Antonio Marathon
used the third-best women's 5-mile split of the morning (34:50) on the second loop to win in
1:09:27, beating Cypress' Darla Shinn, 40, by more than a minute.
Shinn and Morcombe took second and third overall in 1:10:32 and 1:11:01
respectively.
Huntsville's Dan Byrne, 57, was the fastest masters male in 1:06:37 while Shinn beat
Hempstead's Becky Nesbitt, 45, and East Bernard cross country coach Susie Walters, 51, to
post the best women's masters time of the morning.

An event record 232 runners more than double last years number -- finished the
companion 5-mile race as Trinity's Francisco Manzanares, 15, and Bryan's Nancy
Gutierrez, 37, were the fastest in their genders in 33:15 and 35:53, respectively.
Manzanares, the Trinity High School sophomore, was second and third, respectively,
at the five-mile races in Katy and Conroe to end the 2015 Texas 10 Series while Gutierrez
was fourth overall at last year's College Station 10 - one spot behind Morcombe.
The combined 631 finishers was 60 percent higher than a year ago as runners seized
the opportunity to run under dry, 60 degrees conditions after two years of nearly unbearable
rain and near-freezing temperatures.
Additionally, approximately 50 kids took part in the Lil Tex Kids 1-mile.
BCS Marathon founder Chris Field led the pre-race invocation and runners were
supported on the course by the College Station A&M Consolidated High School National
Honor Society as well as two Texas A&M University fraternities, Alpha Tau Omega and Thi
Psi Beta. Texas 10 Race Management made donations of $1,000 to volunteer groups.
Competitions for the Armadillo Cup and the Ten Gallon Club Cup, where cash up to
$10,400 -- is earned by male and female runners in 13 different age groups and another
$2,750 by running clubs and training group for their turnout throughout the year, continue
with the Series next two races in Boerne and Missouri City in April.
College Station 10 awarded each age group winner 15 points while Greene and
Stavinoha received an additional three points for winning the overall titles.
Additional points were earned by Greene and Morcombe for reaching the 5-mile split
mat first as well as masters winners Byrne and Shinn.
The third annual Boerne 10 will be on Sunday, April 3 Greene and Stavinohas
backyard -- while the Series first of two brand-new races in 2016 will be three weeks later
on Sunday, April 24 as runners will compete in the inaugural Sienna 10, hosted in the
beautiful master planned community of Sienna Plantation.
The College Station Running Club, Cypress Running Club, Seven Hills Running
Club in Huntsville and the three-time defending Ten Gallon Club Cup champions Volte
Endurance Training in Spring were the groups who had the most numbers of preregistered runners.
During the awards ceremony, post-race cash drawings earned runners $1,350,
including ten (10) $100 bills for 10-mile finishers, five (5) $50 bills for 5-mile finishers and
one $100 bill for a finisher of the Lil Tex Kid's Race.
