OVERVIEW AND BACKGROUND:
I have always had a love of music. I have been involved with music since first grade, and my love 
of it has led me to wish to spend my life working with music. After college I wish to create my 
own record label and produce music for bands and musicians, but in order to do that I need to 
know how to write and arrange music for any instrument. As a result, I have decided that for my 
senior project I wish to arrange a composition of music for the clarinet with an accompaniment 
for the vibraphone.

PROJECT:
For my senior project I will be taking a composition of music originally written for the piano and 
alter it in such a way that it is playable on the clarinet with an accompaniment for the vibraphone. 
This will involve taking the original music and rewriting for a different instrument, while keeping 
the general feel and style of the composition. I will be required to add in my own variations to 
give it a feel that it is my music.

CHALLENGE:
This project will be a challenge for me because I will be learning how to use programs designed 
to arrange and write music. I also have never written a piece of music, and even though I will not 
be writing an original piece of music, I will be rearranging it and turning it into a piece of music 
that will have my name on it. Since my knowledge of music theory is not what it should be at this 
point, I will be learning a number of terms and techniques that I have not done or known before.

CAREER/COMMUNITY SERVICE CONNECTION:
My senior project connects to my career because I want to produce music for a living and that 
will involve taking already written music and editing it or giving it a bit of my style. It will 
basically prepare me for editing, producing and writing music.

MENTOR:
Bob Schofield will be my mentor. He is the music teacher at Paradise High School and has been 
teaching music for quite a few years. He has all the necessary equipment and all possible 
compositions of music for me to use in order to complete my senior project. He qualifies as my 
mentor because he has written music for the drumline and has added parts into music that have 
already been published that required additional parts. He also majored in music in college, which 
serves the requirement that my mentor have knowledge of music. His work phone number is 872­
