IMPORTANT NOTES FOR EARTHING

1) Whether specifically shown in the drawing or not. All equipment and structures
shall in general, be grounded at two points at opposite corners. All earthing
details shall be as per equipment earthing details drg .no tb -4-363-509-011.
2) Grounding conductors in outdoor areas shall be buried 800mm below finished
ground level.
3) Whenever a grounding conductor crosses roads, cable trenchers, underground
service ducts. Pipe lines etc. shall be laid at least 300mm bellow them, but not
less than 800mm bellow FGL or shall be re rerouted round the equipment
/structure foundation .
4) Grounding conductor around the building shall be buried in ground at a minimum
distance of 1500mm from the outer boundary of the building .and gates shall be
connected to earth mat by one type.
5) Connection with equipment with earthing pad shall be bolted type. connection
between equipment grounding leads (MS flat) and main ground conductors (40 dia
MS rod) shall be welded type .for rust production , the welds shall be clean with
wire brush, treated with red lead and afterwards coated with two layers bitumen
compound to prevent corrosion .
6) All ground connection shall be made by electric arc welding .all welded joints shall
be allowed to cool down gradually to atmospheric temperature before put any
load on it. Artificial cooling shall not be allowed.
7) All are welding of large diameters conductors shall be done by normal low
hydrogen content electrodes.
8) Maximum spacing of horizontal grid conductor shall be 5.5mtr in both direction.
9) Earth mat details are schematic only. Earthing conductor shall be laid to suit site
requirement.
10)
No earthing conductor should pass through any foundation. in such cases ,it
should surpass the foundation rerouted.
11)
No rod electrode should be driven either of foundation or inside the trench
in the event of such cases the location of the road electrode ma modified.
12)
Resistance of the joint shall not be more than the resistance of the
equivalent length of drawing the conductor.
13)
Mom boxes of isolator and earth-switch shall be directly connected to the
auxiliary earthing mat which shall further connected to main earthmat. Refer
equipment earthing drawing no.tb-4-363-509-011.
14)
Risers from earthmat shall be driven upto gravel level close to equipement
foundations at earthing terminal sides of equipment/ structure and welded to
earthing lead (ms flat) connecting to equipment earthing terminal .
15)
Earthing conductor crossing the road shall be laid 500mm bellow load or at
greater depth to suit the site conductor.
16)
Each earthing lead from the neutral of the power transformer /reactor shall
be directly connected to two electrodes in treaded earth pit (as per is) . all the
earth pit in the yard to be provided with cement coller and permanent water
arrangement to be done. All accessories associated with
transformer /reactor
like cooling banks , radiators etc. shall be connected to the earthing grid at
minimum two points.

17)
Earthing terminal of each lighting arrester & capacitor voltage transformer
shall be directly connected to rod earth electrode which in turn , shall be
connected to station earthing grid.
18)
Auxiliary earthing mat comprising of 40mm dia rods closely spaced (300mm
x 300mm) conductors shall be provided at depth of 300mm from ground level
below the operating handles of the MOM box of the isolators MOM boxes shall
be directly connected to be auxiliary earthing mat.
19)
The earth electrode to be fabricated for 5 mts length without joints with
provision for inter connecting at least two n umbers earth flats from main earth
mat/structure etc. the electrode to be erected by rigging 140/150 mm dia . bore
using power rig and to be filled with mixer of a4 grade Bentonite power ,slat and
available site soil .
20)
Bending of earthing rod shall be done preferably by gas heating.
