Sky Sports Ident


The ident, which is shown for the Sky Sports 2010 ident, appears to have
a low density of info. As it appears that the only piece of text that is shown
on the screen is the "Sky Sports" logo, which is shown at the end. This
maybe because they want the viewers to focus on the football clips being
shown before the logo. The channel would want the viewers to expect
programming focusing on sports; they would want the viewers to feel
enthusiastic about the upcoming programme.
The Sky Sports Ident seems to have a slow tempo, which can be shown
throughout the video along with the background music. This may also add
to the fact that they want time for the viewer to focus on the football
shown on the screen. The voice which can be heard is also spoken in a
slow, dramatic fashion possibly to relate to how much drama can be
created in sport. The action is focused on notable events that can me
memorable to a sports fan.
There is also minor interaction near the end of the ident that states to the
viewer that they are watching Sky Sports. The voice in the ident is a
strong male voice that can link with the target audience of Sky Sports that
is the male gender.
When it comes to whether the ident is to inform or to entertain the viewer.
It does show very minor cases of informing the viewer when we are told

that we are watching Sky Sports, however the entertainment side of the
ident is presented in a much more dramatic fashion to indicates the
tension which can be broadcasted on that channel. This adds to the
dramatic excitement that sports creates.
The composition presented s throughout the ident we are shown past
football/sporting events which have happened in a transitional order. Near
the end of the ident, the Sky Sports logo would appear prominently behind
the last footage which could show how the viewer can only experience
such drama with Sky Sports. These bits of footage would be shown
prominently in the middle of the screen
The ident is shown to be clearly animated, the ident isnt filmed in any
space since its animated but the ident has been taken up by the clips
almost takes up the entire screen. While the Sky Sports logo would also
appear prominently in the middle of the screen. The ident does have a
slightly longer duration than others mostly to go along with the sense of
tension that sports creates.

Good Food

The ident for the channel Good Food has a low density of information;
there is no voice over stating any details about the channel. This suggests
that because the channel name and visible images, which are seen on the
ident there might not be a need to tell the viewers what, theyd expect
from this channel. On the ident, we are shown clips of food being prepared
featuring various ingredients (peppers, noodles etc.) The channel
indicates that they want the viewer to expect an enjoyable experience in
watching the meals being created and also wants the viewer to try the
meals out themselves.
Tempo of the ident along with the music is shown to be fast with cross cut
editing switching from the stages of cooking a meal and people shown to
be enjoying the experience. Having an edit which is fast might suggest
that the channel want the audience to enjoy the excitement in cooking.
When it comes to whether this ident is supposed to inform or to entertain
the viewer; this clearly skews more towards entertaining the viewer with
its fast editing and the choice of music which can be heard. The people
shown in the ident having an enjoyable time preparing a meal can show
this and the music accompanies the idents purpose.

This ident is 20+ seconds long, which is abnormally long for an ident to
be. This time is taken up by the constant images which can be seen in the
ident which represent the process of cooking some sort of meal. The
space used is filmed outside, possibly at a market and in the kitchen
which would be appropriate for a channel of this type. Having an ident at
this duration would appeal to people who would enjoy the process of
creating meals.
There is used of some composition near the end of the ident which shows
the Good Food logo appear within a green background. What can be seen
in the background, behind the logo is designs of food ingredients falling
behind; this is a subtle design feature which can be related to what was
shown in the ident.
There seems to be no interaction with the viewer through the use of voice
as it seems to focus on the images shown on screen such as the food
ingredients. This can show that they want the viewer to focus on the food
and they want it to appeal to all genders male or female even though the
cooking activity would skew towards the female demographic although a
male and female are shown to be in the ident which can be assumed to be
a couple.

Challenge Ident Analysis


The ident, which is shown on the Challenge TV channel, is shown to have
a low density of information. The ident doesnt show much information
such as what programme will be coming on next, it only appears to
include the Challenge logo, which is shown at the very end of the ident.

The Challenge ident appears to be skewing towards more of


entertainment rather than providing information. This can be seen by the
animated characters which would appear to get involved in unusual
antics, this could cater towards the channels style as it is known for
playing entertaining and challenging game shows and it seems that those
characters would simulate what would be seen by the actual programme,
which they would normally come to failure.

The space, which is shown in the Challenge ident, is set inside an


animated living room along with its characters. The idea of having the
ident inside the living room can possibly be because since Challenge plays
game shows; it would be implied that you would be watching the
programming with the family while enjoying whatever is being shown in
the program.

The tempo of both the video and the music being played appear to be
fast; however the music doesnt accompany the video, which is shown
and might have been placed there for background purposes. The
animation shown has a fast tempo that can help greatly if they plan on
briefly entertaining the audience just before the program as people would
be amused by the animation being quick and quirky.

The composition seen on the screen would resemble a living area. This
can indicate that the channel is focused on providing family entertainment
and the characters could link with the whole idea of being with family. Text
with would then appear near the end of the ident, showing the name of
the channel.

Its shown that there is a lack of interaction with the audience such as a
voiceover which furthers the point that the ident was more for
entertainment that for providing information.

CNN News Ident


For an incredibly short ident, CNN density of information is possibly
medium. It informs the viewers in dramatic fashion that This is CNN.
This can suggest that the dramatic voice can bring in new which would
shock people. However it doesnt provide much information on anything
else about the channel, possibly because its a news channel and doesnt
focus on TV programmes
The tempo of the ident is quick, possibly because of how quick they want
to fit their channel identity in the ident. The music played along with the
voice is being presented in a deep and quick manner. Having the ident
with a fast tempo would imply they want to bring you news fast.

The ident has the purpose of informing the viewer about the channel
rather than entertaining. This can be an appropriate approach for an ident
because of the news purpose isnt to entertain people but to inform
people about current affairs that could affect the public. This can be
shown by the ident presenting itself as a serious channel,
The ident is short, lasting a mere 7 seconds. This may be appropriate due
to how they want to get their identity across the viewer without wasting
unnecessary time
The composition, which is seen in the CNN ident, is simple but can visually
inform the viewer what type of channel they are. They are a news
channel, which focuses on events have occurred around the world, which
is seen at the end of the ident when a globe is shown next to the logo. The
CNN logo is placed right in the middle of the screen as well as taking up a
large amount of space to show the viewer what theyre watching.
The interaction which is heard by a mans voice which is said in a deep
tone This is CNN this may be because they want the audience to know
what news programme they are. Because CNN are a news network, they
would be trusted with giving reliable news and the deep voice connotes
that.

VIVA Ident
The ident which is used for the VIVA appears to have an incredibly low
density of information, there is no information being said about what
programs are coming on next or any mentioned of the channel name. This
can be seen as slow motion is being used throughout the ident.

The tempo of the audio and the video seems to be different in speed. The
audio appears to have a much faster pace to it than the video. The video
is much slower and looks as if it has been slowed down; since Viva is a
channel which can be associated with partying then the ident tempo could
indicate capturing a memorable moment for as long as you. The
composition of the ident is appearing to be a clip of hands which look like
to be at a concert. Placed over the footage is the Viva logo and the words
"Autofocus" which would imply what's being used in the ident.

Looking at the composition of the Viva Ident. Throughout the ident the
only text which is being shown would be the Viva: logo along with a
caption to represent what is being shown in the background; in this case
its Autofocus. It seems to entertain people with it's modern genre of
music which was heard in the ident and the people with they're hands up
indicate that they are enjoying the moment and so should the viewer
When it comes to whether the idents purpose is to entertain or to inform;
since there is no information being said about the channel or its programs
other than the Viva logo being shown, its clear that the ident is skewing
more so the entertain the viewer. This can show that the programming
Viva focuses on are ones which can be associated with having fun with
your friends and music genre programmes. The space appeals to the
target audience because it would show that they would get the same
feeling from watching the channel as the people shown in the ident.

The space, which is shown to be filmed in the Viva Ident, appears to be at


a party or a concert which is shown by the countless amounts of arms in
the air which take up almost the entire screen. The time of the ident is
short, the ident is 10 seconds long which might suggest that the channel
wants to give out the right impression in a very small amount of time.

There is no interaction shown in this ident such as a voice over talking


about a program which is scheduled next or informing the viewer about
the channel they are watching. Having no interaction may show that Viva
want the audience to focus on what is being shown on the screen, also
could be that having no male or female voiceover may show that the
channel or program being shown is intended for all audiences.

BBC Hippo Ident

The BBC hippos ident is an example of all the ident features at work. It
has a relatively low level density of information shown on the ident;
examples seen are the logos which appear in the middle and two pieces of
text appear at the corners of the screen Subtitles and BBC One HD in
faint lettering.
In the hippo ident, it is shown that the time of which it was recording was
during the daytime which can be clearly seen at the start of the ident.
There are also large amounts of space shown when the underwater
scenes were recorded.
There is also interaction used in this ident through the use of a voice over.
It is a male adult voice spoken in a conversational manner, indicating that
the show will be an enjoyable experience
The composition, which is shown in the ident, represents BBCs design.
The hippos would form a circle, which would have the BBC One in the
middle along with a subtle red circle which would form around the hippos
in BBC Ones red colour
Looking at the BBC One hippo ident, it is clear that footage shown isnt at
a fast speed. The sound would accompany this as it matches the pace of
the footage that doesnt make it sound out of place.
This ident isnt all that much entertaining, not does it seem like it was
supposed to be. This has shown to be an informative ident only letting the
user know what programme is scheduled to come on next.
