OXFORDJOURNALS.ORG

These journals can be accessed on-site (no log-in required) and off-site using an Athens username
and password from: http://www.oxfordjournals.org/subject/medicine/ and also through the full
A-Z e-journals listing on our website http://www.hselibrary.ie/mid-west

OVIDMD
Following the recent trial of OvidMD, the library now has a full subscription to the resource. It can be accessed on-site (no log-in
needed) and off-site also using an Athens username and password from: http://www.ovidmd.com
This resource simultaneously searches UpToDate, Ovid MEDLINE, evidence-based guidelines, full-text Current Opinion review
journals, Clinical Consult ebooks and more. We are also in the process of setting up external linking to all of our ejournals, so that
the Ovid MEDLINE results will link straight to full-text coverage where we have a subscription to the journal from another
publisher e.g. Oxford. By facilitating access to several resources through one interface, this provides fast access to information
from a variety of sources through a single search - ideal for point of care queries.
Many thanks to all those who forwarded feedback during the trial.
For further information on using OvidMD, please contact michelle.dalton@hse.ie.

UPTODATE NOW AVAILABLE REMOTELY/OFF-SITE

UpToDate.com is now available to staff off-site/outside the HSE Mid-West network. Simply select the Athens log-in option when
accessing the website remotely, and enter your username and password. If you do not have an Athens account you can selfregister at www.hselibrary.ie/mid-west.

NEW MID-WEST RESEARCH SECTION IN THE LIBRARY

The library continually aims to support and promote research in the HSE
Mid-West region. Every month we publish a poster of the latest staff
research which is displayed on the door of the library and we have recently
developed a new section to highlight staff publications.
The section is located beside the Nursing Journals and Free Press reading
area and includes printed copies of the most recent articles published by
staff in the Mid-West which staff can read in the library.
Many of these articles are also available online through our ejournals on
www.hselibrary.ie/mid-west.
Next time you are in the library drop by our new section and catch up on
what your colleagues are researching and publishing!

http://www.SciGit.com is a free online tool that helps you collaborate with other researchers. The tool helps you to keep track
of changes done by each person and see the differences between different versions of your paper. You can work offline and
merge changes easily with previous documents. It supports a variety of formats including Microsoft Word and your documents

TESTING TREATMENTS INTERACTIVE

How do you know whether one treatment is better than another, or whether the evidence about a treatments
benefits and harms is reliable? Does current research address what you want to know?
http://www.testingtreatments.org/ contains the full text of the 2nd edition of the book Testing Treatments by Imogen Evans,
Hazel Thornton, Iain Chalmers and Paul Glasziou. The book aims to promote involvement in current and future health research,
and outlines practical steps that both patients and health professionals can take together to do this. The website also contains
links to additional resources and videos which help to explain and illustrate the principles and messages contained in the book.
