Confidence in the

Face of Adversity
A conference in Venice found
the Board of Directors of Roto
Frank in bullish mood despite
market conditions, Michael
Gannon reports.
The report was made to the Ninth
International Trade Press Day where 65
journalists from 16 countries attended.
However, despite the success, 2014
turned out to be a weak year for
markets, characterised by negative
trends, according to Eckhard Keill,
Rotos Chief Executive. His pessimistic
prognosis was that 2015 will be much
the same.
He went on to state that the aim had to
be once more to outperform markets
and competitors. When we predicted
that 2014 would bring lateral movement
of markets at best, rather than upward
tendencies, we were blamed for being
too negative. Now we know that we
had actually been too optimistic, he
asserted.
According to the Roto CEO, the most
relevant markets had seen rather steep
losses. In comparison, the Roto Group
has been able to keep up its positive
business performance and ensure
economic stability. The main factors
of success was put down to a strict
customer benefit focus and the global
implementation of German made
values.
Among other factors, numerous political
crises had led to lowered forecasts in
2014, e.g. China is experiencing its
lowest growth rate (7%) in 25 years
and Europe is languishing at best. Dr
Keill stated the Russian economy was
suffering from sanctions imposed as a
reaction to the Ukraine conflict. The only
ray of hope for him was the recovery
in North America and a better than
predicted improvement in the UK.
He criticised developments in Germany,
where slowing growth rates seen in

2014 and expected for 2015 were largely

home grown problems.
Perhaps contentiously, he insisted
that it was evident that the German
governments soft-touch policies point
in the wrong direction. For example,
handing out generous social presents
at the expense of urgently needed
investments into infrastructure and
energy efficiency.
The rest of Europe offered, at best, only
moderate signs of recovery from the
recession.
Though the total construction volume
in the 19 Euroconstruct countries is
expected to grow again from 2016, it
would still be below 1998 levels. This
moderate growth will supposedly be
triggered by residential construction,
which is characterised by strong countryspecific disparities, said Eckhard Keill.
According to research institutes, Ireland,
the UK, Hungary and Poland will be at
the forefront, while Belgium, Denmark,
Germany and Switzerland will only be
mid-range. Finland, France, Norway,
Spain and the Czech Republic will be the
bottom of the table due to a decline in
residential construction.
PESSIMISTIC FORECAST
On the face of it, Keills forecast for
the window and door markets was
pessimistic with a sharper decline than
what had been expected a year ago. No
general turnaround was to be expected in
2015 and some overseas markets seem
to be a real unknown quantity.
The first session struck a number of the
English journalists as a little strange with
a perhaps overlong focusing on Roto on
a report it had at the fensterbau exhibition
in Nuremburg earlier in the year.
Perhaps it showed on our side that
we were not fully aware about the
importance that the event has for
companies in Europe. But, no doubt,
the findings showed a consistently high
rating in terms of appreciation of the

products and services on the Roto stand.

On the other hand, it appeared a little too
self-congratulatory to form such a large
part of the morning session.
SOUTHERN EUROPE
An analysis of the market was put
forward by Francesc Gimeno, the
Managing Director for the Window and
Door Technology Division Southern
Europe. He concentrated on the fortunes
of France, Italy and Spain.
Given the bad coverage France has had
in recent times, it came as a surprise to
hear that compared with Italy and Spain,
Gimeno reported France has weathered
the crisis quite well. The volume of new
buildings had only decreased by 9%
since 2009. Continued on page 6...

EDITORS CORNER
There has been a slump of 85% since
2009, bringing the sector almost to
a complete standstill. Window sales
have also seen a sharp decline from 7.9
million (2010) to 3.7 million units. While
the renovation sector still amounts to
2.4 million, new build only accounts for
just over one million units of total sales
volume. According to forecasts, the new
construction sector will only begin to
recover in 2017. Aluminium dominates
the Spanish market (57%), followed by
PVC-U (35%) and timber (8%).
Eckhard Keill, Rotos CEO the most relevant
markets had seen rather steep losses.

Continued from page 4... Forecasts

for 2014 estimated the French window
market at 10 million units, 56% of which
would come from refurbishment and 44%
from new build. Only 2017 will bring a
discernible increase in new projects. There
was a clear preference for certain window
materials on the French market. PVC-U
is the number one with 62%, followed by
aluminium (23%) and timber (15%).
The standard window in France is twosash, 1,000mm x 1,000mm, turn-only,
double glazing, 30kg60kg sash weight,
U value 1.3, low safety level, white.
Just like the Italian market, France is
increasingly feeling the impact of imports
from Poland. In 2011 to 2013 alone, these
imports increased by 30% to 600,000
units. According to the regional Managing
Director, key trends on the French
window market are energy efficiency,
automation, design, ventilation and
security.
ITALY
With an estimated 118,000 new houses
to be built in 2014, Italy has seen a slump
of more than 50% since 2009.
Window sales volumes have dropped to
roughly 6 million units, with refurbishment
accounting for two-thirds and new
buildings for one-third. New construction
business is predicted to pick up again in
2016. The material mix on the Italian market
timber is number one with 43%, followed
by aluminium (35%) and PVC-U (22%).
SPAIN
Gimeno opened his presentation on
the Spanish market by pointing to the
collapse of new construction business
in Spain.

ROTO RESPONSE
Despite the challenging and quite
distinctive market conditions in the
Southern European area, Rotos product
portfolio for the Southern Europe region
has been developed to meet countryspecific requirements and the latest
trends on the window market.
The key trends have been energy
efficiency, design, ventilation, safety and
security, larger and heavier elements, and
automation. The convenience ventilation
system E-Tec Drive combines several of
these trends.
GERMANY SECURITY CAMPAIGN
According to Marketing Manager Udo
Pauly, Germany is referred to as a
paradise for burglars.
The number of such offences has been
increasing since 2008 to 150,000 cases
in 2013. Detection rates are extremely
low at only 15.5%. That means that
only one out of six cases can be closed
successfully by the police.
Quite a few of us English journalists
could have pointed Udo Pauly to look
at the figures for the UK when it comes
to reporting (or not) crimes, including
burglary by the police.
However, Roto believes it will be in the
vanguard of a fightback against burglars
with the promotion of its campaign
Resistance is not futile which was
launched at the conference last month.
This has been followed by direct mailing,
press work and advertisements in
relevant specialised media in Germany.
Promotion packages will be provided to
participating businesses to support pointof-sale activities.
Other measures will be introduced to
promote Roto Quadro Safe for facade
windows which is based on components

efficient protection against picklocks
consists of lockable handles, anti-drilling
protection, mushroom cams and security
strikers.
Depending on the experience in
Germany, this scheme may be introduced
in other countries where Roto is active.
HISTORIC VENICE
As with previous conferences, time
was given to the place where Roto had
chosen and few could be unimpressed by
the buildings in Venice.
Professor Stefano Croce was the expert
on what had been achieved in this
unique city. Buildings have had to be
squeezed into an area of just 35km,
including ancient churches, palaces
and merchants houses. Croce believed
that no other city in the world has
such density of historically significant
architecture.
Nevertheless, it was very evident that
the city has problems to deal with
maintaining its beauty and grandeur
but fighting against decay and the very
serious threat of flooding. Yet, as Croce
pointed out Venice without water would
be unthinkable.
The citys founders had settled in the
Lagoon while the Roman Empire was
disintegrating about them and learned to
live with the tides. There were no roads,
bridges, plazas but only waterways. The
most stunning buildings are strung along
these waterways, with faades that have
preserved the staggering diversity of
artistic styles for generations to come,
said
The next Roto conference in 2015 will be
held in Vienna.

Dear Editor,
With industry standards becoming ever more
stringent it is no real surprise that every change
to regulations brings with it a flurry of activity
as companies decide on the best way to
comply. So it is somewhat surprising that was
yet we have seen little discussion surrounding
proposed amendments to Approved Document
Q: Security.
The Document became up for consultation in September 2014,
and it is something that will affect everybody supplying to new
build and refurbishment works, making PAS 24 a compulsory
requirement. Previously a nice to have particularly for those
using Secured by Design as a selling tool, the change to the
standard will effectively level the playing field as everybody will
need to comply.
There are two ways in which you can meet the proposed
requirements of Approved Document Q: one is to demonstrate
that you conform to PAS 24 and the other is to become
Secured by Design accredited. So those of you with Secured
by Design status should in theory already be compliant, but we
advise anyone who is not to start thinking about it as soon as
possible and put plans into place to ensure you are ready when
the time comes.
Off the back of this, it is also worth taking into consideration
that PAS 24 itself is likely to be revised, with a much stricter
pass criteria for doors. Whilst unconfirmed at this stage, the
revised standard looks set to take safe egress in the event of
a fire into account, with thumbturns instead of keys fitted to
doors. We envisage a great deal of re-testing will be required
should this be the case, particularly when you consider
that 95% of doors currently tested are done so with keys,
so compliance will need to be demonstrated with the new
component.
We believe that any move to promote higher security is surely
a positive. It is certainly something high on the list of concerns
amongst consumers - just look at the brand awareness
Secured by Design has achieved in the market and not before
time. Prior to 1997, the only real security requirement was that
windows be lockable in accordance with BS 7950 and the first
proper PAS 24 standard was only introduced in 1999.
We understand that changes to regulations can seem daunting
and are happy to speak to anybody about testing their
products in preparation. We offer a range of high quality testing
solutions including support for companies looking to gain
Secured by Design accreditation and meet PAS 24 - from our
purpose built, fully equipped testing facility in Telford. So give
us a call and find out how we can help ensure your products
meet the relevant standards in 2015.
Yours Sincerely

The Consultancys
New Year Checklist
With the New
Year in full swing,
digital expert The
Consultancy, a
specialist in the
window and door
industry, is advising
companies to carry
out their New Year
Digital Checklist.
1. Website
How often do you visit your
own website? Do you have
a functioning website? Many
companies create a website
and then leave it static,
thinking it will be sufficient on
its own. This is not the case.
Richie Thornton, Director of
The Consultancy, said: A
website must be constantly
maintained and tested for
functionality. Everything should
be working and new content
should be added as and when
needed. No one revisits a
website which has looked the
same for the last five years,
regeneration is key.
2. Analytics
Every website should have
access to its analytics page,
allowing users to track
how people find their site,
if their marketing methods
are working and if theyre
reaching the correct audience.
Richie added: If your
marketing isnt driving people to
your website, you should know
about it and should be acting
quickly. You also need to be
finding out how people access

your website whether its

through social media, literature
or SEO and capitalise on that.
3. Business Processes
Your business may be
successful, but is it running
as efficiently as possible?
Breaking down the various
systems your customers
and staff use and seeing if
theres anything which can be
optimised.
4. Digital Appraisal
If youre unsure of the above,
The Consultancy can carry
out a full Digital Appraisal,
finding out what you want
from your online systems and
how to achieve it.
Richie said: Many people
know theres a problem but
just keep pushing it to the
back of the pile. Through a
simple chat with us we can
identify what youre looking
for, carry out a full digital
examination and provide you
with a set of results and notes
for improvement.
5. Your customers
Business may be steadily
increasing, but is your
customers? If your traders
are receiving more orders,
then you will be too. So why
not take a look at their online
processes and see if theres
anything you can help with.
If theyre struggling with
their online presence and are

SPACER BAR

HIGHEST PERFORMANCE

THERMOBAR SPACER BAR IS

SUITABLE FOR ANY SEALANT TYPE
Thermobar Warm Edge Spacer, manufactured by Thermoseal Group, is
officially at the top of the list of the most thermally efficient spacer systems
suitable for use with both PU/PS and hot melt sealants as per figures
published on the new Bundesverband Flachglas (BF) Data Sheet - 0.14W/mK.
The BF website
www.bundesverbandflachglas.de/shop/
kostenfreie-downloads/bfdata-sheets-english lists test
reports in two categories. At
the top of the page are results

for spacer bars suitable for

simulation with Polyurethane
(PU), Polysulphide (PS) and hot
melt sealants. These spacer
bars have been proven to pass
EN1279 parts 2 and 3 with all
secondary sealant types.

At the bottom of the page is

a list of spacer bars that have
only been tested with hot melt
sealant and can therefore only
be simulated with this type
of sealant. As stated by the
British Fenestration Rating

Council (BFRC) in recent

publicity, "the BFRC will only
accept simulation reports that
have a listed combination
of spacer bar and sealant."
Thermobar with hot melt
sealant currently offers the
best 2-box value available.
Thermoseal Group's Sales

comments: "We have spoken
to a few customers who are
under the misconception that
the BF data sheets listed at
the bottom of the BF web

ones suitable for use with hot

data sheets are those which

sealant types. We are pleased

of bar designed
to replace existing
internal aluminium
systems that
simulate multi-pane
windows. It is a plastic
alternative which
helps to improve
energy efficiency and
minimise the potential
for condensation on
an insulated glass
(IG) unit around the
surface mounted
system.
According to BS EN14351,
using internal aluminium
systems can result in a
u-value penalty on the sealed

unit which can significantly

affect the energy rating of the
unit. We suggest that this will
eventually affect the Window
Energy Rating (WER) system
which currently does not take
into account internal Georgian
or multi-pane systems.
This new bar is designed
specifically to complement
Thermobar Warm Edge
Spacer (although it can be
used with other warm edge
spacer systems) which is
officially at the top of the list
of the most thermally efficient
spacer systems suitable for
use with both PU/PS and
hot melt sealants as per
figures published on the new
Bundesverband Flachglas
(BF) Data Sheet 0.14W/mK.
Thermobar Interbar can be
supplied with compatible
centre and edge keys
in 11.5mmx18mm and
15.5mmx18mm. It is currently

in stock in black, but grey

and white alternatives will be
available in the New Year.

CERTIFICATE

Certass
Traditionally, at this time of year, the Certass
article takes a look back over the last 12
months; and what a year of upheaval 2014 has
been for our industry! To put the past year in
context of how far the Competent Person has
journeyed, I want to travel back in a time even
farther. It has been 12 years since authority was
given to the first Competent Person Schemes.
3 companies were chosen to operate such
schemes for 3 different trades.
2002: The introduction of Competent Person Schemes brought
cost savings and less paperwork to installers throughout
England & Wales versus those using the Local Authority Building
Control. The scheme became popular and in-turn consumers
started to understand that Building Regulation Compliance
Certificates (BRCCs) did not need to come from the Local
Authority.
Although the benefits of Competent Person Scheme
membership were obvious; at this stage, there was only one
Competent Person Scheme operator for glazing installers.
Healthy markets crave competition and it was clear that there
was room for more than one Competent Person Scheme in the
glazing industry and that such competition would be beneficial
to contractors.
2006: Fast forward to the year in which Certass launched its
own Competent Person Scheme. This gave the marketplace
the wholesome competitive element that it needed. This was
of benefit to all stakeholders in the glazing industry; not only
glazing contractors, but also to ancillary players such as
insurance backed guarantee providers.
Certass quickly built up a loyal following of contractors, to whom
Certass remains eternally grateful. This vindicated our position
that competition was needed in this marketplace.
2010: I joined Certass; I was brought into the company for
my technical knowledge and my background as a tradesman,
building surveyor and training provider. My first task upon
joining was to develop a Window Energy Rating scheme. At the
time it was looking as though the Building Regulations were
going to provide one company with a domineering position
for the delivery of Window Energy Ratings. Certass made
representations to Government in order to ensure that this did
not take place. We also developed our own Window Energy
Rating scheme to demonstrate our ability to deliver a scheme
alternative. It is only through Certass intervention that prices for
Window Energy Ratings have fallen to their current levels.
Since 2010, Certass has developed major partnerships
with glass manufacturers, system companies and trade
26 | December 2014 | www.mytrade.tv

associations to deliver innovative solutions to industry. As the

profile of Certass has increased so has the growth of Certass
membership numbers. There are currently 9 DCLG authorised
Competent Person Scheme operators for the glazing industry.
Certass is currently in a strong 2nd place and gaining. Although
Certass is driven to grow its position in the marketplace; it will
always defend and preserve its core values providing choice,
value for money, a friendly service and tailoring the delivery
mechanisms and platforms of the service to meet the needs of
the customer.
2012: DCLG launched their Conditions of Authorisation to
provide a level playing field for compliance to all Competent
Person Scheme operators. Every Competent Person Scheme
operator had to demonstrate compliance with these conditions
within 2 years. Whilst this meant lots of behind the scenes work
at Certass to gain UKAS accreditation, member contractors
did not feel the same pain as was felt by members of other
Competent Person Schemes because the Certass Competent
Person Scheme was already operating to UKAS standards.
2014: Certass commenced enforcement of the final 2 Conditions
of Authorisation; namely the requirement for Minimum Technical
Competence (MTC) and the requirement for the universal
provision of consumer protection (in the form of Insurance
Backed Guarantees). These changes have been monumental
but also necessary for Competent Person Schemes to comply
with the Conditions of Authorisation- and the MTCs in particular
can present time obstacles.
That being said, I truly believe that this will be the year where
it is said that the Competent Person has grown up. Imagine
for a second, what service you would be getting if there was
only one Competent Person Scheme? Or what price you would
be paying without the hard work we have put in since 2006? It
is only the competition that we at Certass have brought to the
marketplace that has kept the lid on high cost increases (which
would have otherwise been necessary, given the increasingly
stringent requirements). It is only with your support that we grow
and between us are able to strike the right balance within the
marketplace. So if you havent already, why not visit our website
and download our application forms to see what we have to
offer?
Were not perfect and we know it; but at Certass we strive to
continue to improve our service to you. We will always listen and
try to keep you as a happy customer. Our promise to you is that
we will keep working hard to deliver a better service and range
of products suited to you.
Thanks for working with us over the years to make our industry
better for all!
Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to one and all.

Distinction Doors celebrates

10 years in business
Distinction Doors, the UKs
largest GRP composite door
supplier, is celebrating 10
years in business.
Drew Wright, founder and now Chairman
of Distinction Doors, said, It is a great
achievement for our company to have
reached this significant milestone.
Everyone who has worked at the
company in the past or who works for us
today has played a part in our companys
success and now is a good opportunity
to thank them for their efforts. We
should also thank our customers past
and present because we could not have
achieved anything without them.
Distinction Doors was one of the first
companies to bring the composite door to
the UK market back in 2004. Since then,
the composite door has gone from a social
housing niche product to homeowner
mainstream. According to recent industry
research, the composite door continues
to achieve dominance in the market place
with 40% of homeowners now opting for
this type of door for their homes.

Throughout the last decade, Drew and

his team have consistently focused
on delivering the best products and
service to the growing market. Today,
through continual development, their
market-leading Nan Ya slab remains
at the cutting edge. Not only does it
offer stunning aesthetics giving it a truly
authentic grained appearance, it also
offers some impressive performance
benefits too.
Its the most thermally efficient door on
the market in tests at the University of
Salfords Energy House it was proved to
be 19% more thermally efficient than its
rival 48mm solid timber core composite
door.
From a standing start back in 2004,
Distinction have sold over two million
door slabs which speaks volumes about
the quality thats on offer.
With continued investment being made
in all areas of the business, Distinction
Doors has no plans to slow down. Drew
explains, Weve recently made big
investments in our customer service,

from launching a new website thats

focused on bringing in more leads for our
customers to extending stock availability
in all areas from glass to blank cassettes.
Weve also invested 185,000 in our
new paint plant to improve quality, lead
times and cost in this area. In terms of
product range weve just launched our
70mm door and the One Lite bi-fold door,
both of which offer significant benefits
for installers looking to expand their
portfolio.
The investment and development made
by the company is a clear indication
of the companys desire to help their
customers take a larger slice of market
share and ensure Distinction Doors have
the building blocks in place for the next
10 years.

Distinction Doors
achievements
recognised locally
Distinction Doors has just been
named in the top ten SME
businesses in the Sheffield
City Region in a list compiled
by local publication The Star
Business and sponsored by
Barber Harrison & Platt.
Chantel Roach, Distinctions Marketing
Manager, said, We are delighted to make
the top ten SMEs in the region. Last year
we were number 19 and the move up the
rankings this year reflects how strong 2014
has been for us in all areas of the business.
There are around 36,000 SMEs in
the Sheffield City Region, so to be
ranked in the top 100 is a considerable
achievement, let alone the top ten. But
as Chantel comments, Distinction Doors

Traditional
Genesis recreates the timeless
beautiful styling of a traditional
timber sliding sash window like no
other. With its authentically jointed
frame and sash it replicates the
windows of yesteryear that are
found in period cottages, older
properties and conservation
areas.

Home to the

ranking reflects a year of actions aimed

at cementing the companys position as
the market leader in composite doors in
the UK.
The company has invested in its
customer service, with initiatives
including a new website thats focused on
bringing in more leads for its customers.
It has also focused on extending stock
availability in all areas from glass to
blanks. Finally, a new paint plant, costing
185,000, has been opened, allowing the
company to bring this facility in-house
and improve quality, lead times and cost.
Product range has also been an area of
focus, with Distinction adding two new
doors to its portfolio. The 70mm door
offers superb thermal efficiency with a
typical 37% improvement over a timber
door and it can also be over-rebated

Modern
With its elegant styling and
precision design, the Genesis
vertical sliding sash will enhance
any modern home as well as a
traditional property. Designed for
modern living, Genesis combines
cutting-edge technology with the
traditional character of a box sash
window. Precision-engineered

Genesis effortlessly complements
your modern lifestyle.

meaning it can be a direct replacement

for the PVCu equivalent. The One Lite bifold composite door gives fabricators and
installers a new and innovative revenue
stream and homeowners a sophisticated
new option on the market.
Distinction Doors is celebrating ten
years in business this year, so it seems
fitting that it should rank in the top ten
local SMEs. But with plans afoot to
further increase market share in the next
12 months, who knows how high the
company could rank next year?

and insulation benefits which can only be
optimised with correct fitting.
The manuals are now available for

Said Linda: The guides are designed to

illustrated fitting instructions to make the
job easier for them - and to maximise
benefits for the homeowner.
Officially recognised as Energy A Rated,
Apeer composite doors feature a high

a higher level of strength and insulation
compared to traditional doors. The

vertical edge where the door meets
the frame adds additional draught

On 7 December 2014,

Andrew Fowlds, Distinctions

the hard work of our staff and
the loyalty of our customers
and a great end to an already

its a trend that shows no
sign of slowing down. It has
recently expanded overseas

investment has also been
made the companys

system, among other
developments.
Solidor has proven to be the
fastest growing composite
door manufacturer in the UK
and the only one that can lay
claim to be a true consumer

and other marketing materials
clearly show. The option of 17

colours inside and out is also

supported by an incredible
hardware range, with
consumers offered keyless
locking, traditional furniture
and contemporary handles for
the Italia Range, which have
now been adopted by several
other door companies. There
is of course a vast range of
more standardise hardware
offerings, making for more
door configurations than any
other composite company in
the UK.
The handmade traditional
ironmongery range was
launched back in 2012 with
options of handles, knockers
and letterplates in black and
pewter and sales have seen a
steady growth, following the
similar and complementary
handle options for PVCu

all is the 5 ring door knocker,
which makes use of Solidors
solid timber core based slabs
and due to its weight cannot be
readily fitted on to lightweight
foam filled GRP doors. The
handle range includes Gothic,
Monkeytail, Tudor, Narrow

Customers have already
commented on the fact that
its the first keyless solution
for composite doors for
the mass market, as its
already based on the proven
Winkhaus automatic AV2

Gareth Mobley, CEO of
Solidor Group comments:
Its important for us and our
customers, that we expand
the options for our solid core
composite doors which are
in fact bespoke, with each
one manufactured from a
solid timber slab here in the
UK. Consumers want choice
in terms of colours, but also
handles, letterplates and even
keyless locking in exactly the

Well known for beating

The VEKA UK Group has now
unveiled the industrys only
BSI notified and BFRC certified
window and door energy
performance calculator.
Principal Engineer Tim Williams has
unveiled the only calculator in the
industry capable of providing accurate
SELs, DSELs in accordance with
the BFRC, and notified U-Values for
CE Marking in accordance with EN

fabricator and their products. And the
best part...? Its free!
BFRC rules covering the simulation of
spacer bars changed at the beginning of
September and immediately made results
from all existing SEL calculators invalid
and subsequently illegal. The rules stated
that all warm edge spacer bars should
be simulated as two box models and all
pre-September simplified energy licenses
based on the old spacer bar simulation
method are now obsolete.
Tim, who has worked at VEKA for 22
years, sits on the BPF Windows Group
Committee, the BFRC Simulators Group
and ACDM Technical Committee, so
he was well placed to implement the
changes in standards that came into play
at the beginning of September.
Tim explains: As of September 1st
2014, changes in BFRC rules, brought
about by updated European standards
meant that ALL previous energy rating
calculators immediately became invalid.
This affects all sorts of things down the
chain, including CE Marking. I know that
many people are burying their heads

aspect of CE Marking.
Here at The VEKA UK Group, were
committed to staying up-to-date in
all aspects of the business. Our new
calculator is now the only intelligent one
in the industry. It is the culmination of more
than a years work, to ensure that when
the September changes were introduced
- our customers would have the tools to
stay on the right side of the law.
The new calculator has been officially
notified by the BSI for CE Marking and
weve designed it to provide CE Marking
U-Values in accordance with BS EN
14351 for all the major VEKA UK Group
products, and all the variations thereof.
Were extremely proud to have the
industrys only dual function calculator
and were delighted it offers so many
benefits to our customers. The system is
bespoke to each fabricator or installer and
personalised depending on which VEKA
or Halo systems they use. The resulting
Energy Certificate can be given to the
homeowner or client as independent proof
of a products thermal performance.
It offers HUGE cost savings, as it can
be used as many times as you like,
completely FREE of charge! This will
eliminate the cost currently associated
with auditing or notifying each window or
door configuration.
Extremely simple to use, the system
allows one form to be filled in via
numerous drop down boxes that
allow fabricators to try all the available
configurations, with different glass,
spacer bars etc. It is impossible to get a

wrong result as only compatible parts

will be listed for each system. It is the only
calculator that carries out all the necessary
energy rating and U-value calculations
from scratch, enabling many permutations
of profiles, reinforcement, spacer bars
and glass to be used. For example, it can
resolve tens of millions of ways to make
a Matrix 70 casement window, covering
28mm double glazing, as well as 36mm,
40mm and 44mm triple glazing.
Customers could even potentially save
money on the cost of manufacturing
their standard A rated windows by
trying a different variety of cost-effective
components that still result in the A
they require. We have designed the
calculator to be future proof as it can
accommodate changes, for example, if
the Building Regs go from 1.6 down to
1.4. The calculator will be sent out to our
customers manually in the first instance,
but ultimately the plan is for it to be
hosted on the website and customers
can log in to access their bespoke
version.
The VEKA UK Group is well known for
being ahead of the curve when it comes
to new technology, new initiatives and
assisting customers with meeting new
changes in legislation.
The new calculator is the latest in a
long line of innovations for The VEKA
UK Group. The company was the first
to create an A rated window, first to
achieve an A rating for noise reduction,
first to establish a closed-loop recycling
system, first to achieve a BSI Kitemark
on a bi-folding door and the only systems
company to establish its own UKASaccredited Competent Persons Scheme.

HARDWARE

Nanocoast

Door Hardware

Designed for the Coast

As many people
are aware, sourcing
hardware products
that will be displayed
either near the coast
or in highly populated
industrial areas can
be very difficult, as
brass or zinc based
products pit and
tarnish very quickly
due to the salt in the
air. This is particularly
evident in areas within
a 25 mile radius of
the coast, or within
5 miles of high
populated industrial
areas.
UAP are constantly looking
for ways to improve their ever
expanding product range, and
have developed Nanocoast
hardware - a range of door
hardware products that are
specifically designed for the
coast. Nanocoast products
are made from 304 grade
stainless steel, and have also
been salt spray tested to
ASTM B117 for 2,000+ hours.
Not only do UAP offer an
industry first lifetime coating
guarantee on all Nanocoast
products, and you can have
confidence that the products
will not pit, rust or corrode no

and durability, and you would

usually use 316 when you
need a higher resistance to
solutions such as sulfuric
acid and chlorides at high
temperatures. In this sense,
you can see why it seemed
illogical not to use the
304 grade to produce our
products.

matter what environments you

put them in, the products are
also extremely competitively
priced.
You may wonder why UAP
have taken the decision to
use 304 grade stainless steel,
instead of 200 grade or 316
grade stainless steel which
some competitors use. As
Ben Jennings, Marketing
Manager at UAP, explains,
the reason for us using
304 grade stainless steel is
simple - it gives the products
the best corrosion resistant
without being too expensive.
The 304 grade is an austenitic
stainless steel which contains
18% chromium and 8%
nickel, and has low carbon
content, giving excellent
corrosion resistance in a wide
variety of environments, and
good resistance to oxidation.
It is this 8% nickel content
which gives the corrosion
resistance at the coast.
Downgrading the stainless
steel quality to a 200 series
grade stainless steel means
that even though they have
similar mechanical and
physical properties to the 304
grade, there is decreased
nickel content. The nickel
is replaced by manganese
which results in weak
corrosion resistance, and high
carbon content leaves the
stainless steel susceptible to

stress corrosion cracking. On

the other hand, the 316 series
grade would dramatically
increase the prices of the
products even though the
corrosion resistance only
slightly increases, with a
nickel content of 10%. 316 it
shares similar characteristics
to 304 grade stainless steel
in resistance to oxidation

The 304 grade is an

austenitic stainless
steel which contains
18% chromium and
8% nickel.

Ben continues, So far, we

have released three fully
suited colour match ranges
into our Nanocoast range;
Mirror Polished Stainless
Steel, PVD Gold and Satin
Stainless Steel. The range
includes door knockers,
door viewers, letterplates,
door handles, numerals,
hinges, letterplate shrouds,
identity slots, and our newly
introduced pull handles and
round door knobs.
Nanocoast products provide
you with true quality, and
the competitive prices make
them exceptional value for
money. Why take the risk with
other products which have
the potential to rust. To find

AVOCET ACCELERATES GROWTH

PLANS WITH WAREHOUSE EXPANSION
Avocet Hardware has signalled
its intent for 2015 by doubling
the capacity of the warehouse
facilities at its Brighouse
headquarters in West Yorkshire.
The company has added an additional
10,000 pallet spaces, which when
combined with a number of important
new distribution deals, and a significant
investment in stock earlier this year, means
next day delivery is now available across
any product ordered from Avocet before
4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 3.30pm
on Fridays. Avocet also anticipates an
additional 20 warehouse jobs being created
as a result of the expansion in 2015.
Rythm Jain Saigal, a director of Avocet
Hardware, said: We have been building
the business steadily ever since we took
it over in 2012 and all this hard work can
now be seen coming to fruition. We have
exciting distribution deals with the likes

of Duffells; we have Glazerite becoming

the first of what we hope will be many
fabricated door manufacturers opting to
install only ABS locks on its product; we
have new Elite Centres coming on-board;
new products on the way; and to back
that all up we now have the capacity to
ensure our delivery is unrivalled in the UK.
The company though is not set to rest on
any laurels. More investment is expected
in 2015, both in product and stock, while
the in-house design team is always
looking to improve on existing products
and bring new ones to market.
We have a team here that wants to
succeed, added Rythm. They have
the drive, the passion and the skills to
do so, and I firmly believe that Avocets
reputation will go on to far outstrip that
enjoyed in prior to our involvement.

GLASSOLUTIONS CREATES GLASS

WALKWAYS FOR TOWER BRIDGE
Tourists visiting Tower Bridge
can see a unique view of the
bridge mechanism and road
below - through two new glass
walkway floors 42 metres
above the River Thames.
The UKs largest processor, distributor,
installer and repairer of glass and
glass systems GLASSOLUTIONS won
the 250,000 contract to design and
manufacture the (one-way) glass, which
has been inserted into the floor of each of
the two 11.5 metre long walkways on the
Grade I listed building.
The existing floors were removed and
a steel frame was installed into which
the new 80mm thick glass floor panels,
comprising seven layers of glass
capable of withstanding the weight of six
elephants, were inserted.

and easily should any damage occur including the minor scratches and scuff
marks that are inevitable over time without affecting the structural integrity of
the floor.
This innovative design has already
demonstrated its value with a breakage
in one of the panels occurring when a
heavy item was accidentally dropped
during the new venues opening fortnight.
GLASSOLUTIONS was able to respond
immediately and replace the sacrificial
layer from stocked spare glass panes
within 48 hours to help the venue get
back to full operation quickly. It did its job
perfectly in that it prevented any cosmetic
damage to the main structural part of
the glass floor, which in a conventional
design would have been far more costly
and time-consuming to replace.

The glass specification was developed

to accommodate major external forces
such as wind loading and the potential
impact should a passing vessel strike the
walkways. Equally important though was
consideration of internal impacts on the
glass floors and how to design-in a way
to easily repair any damage that results
from the heavy footfall of 600,000+
visitors a year.

Chris Earlie, business manager at Tower

Bridge said: There has never been
anything as big as this for Tower Bridge
in terms of development, and in terms
of future-proofing in the exhibition. We
were really confident with the solution
that GLASSOLUTIONS presented and
were really happy with the outcome.
On the basis of this project, I would
have nothing but glowing reports on
GLASSOLUTIONS. I would definitely,
definitely recommend them.

The solution developed by

GLASSOLUTIONS was to incorporate
a top sacrificial layer of glass into the
panels. This can be replaced quickly

Simon Carin, managing director of

Glassolutions, which is part of the
international Saint-Gobain group said:
The glass walkways are designed to

enhance this already stunning visitor

attraction and have certainly created a
new talking point. This project is similar to
the glass floor installations Saint-Gobain
has been involved with at the Eiffel Tower
in Paris and the Spinnaker Tower view
decks in Portsmouth. Its a privilege to be
part of such a landmark project and were
delighted that our expertise has made it
possible.
With a wide variety of events and
functions held on the walkways, another
dimension to the glass panel design
was to maintain privacy for venue users
when necessary to prevent prying eyes
from the passing traffic and pedestrians
on the bridge below. The clever panel
design allows for this too, which means
GLASSOLUTIONS can replace the top
layer of glass at any point to incorporate
a privacy feature - and remove just as
easily.
Tower Bridge is owned by the Bridge
House Estate and managed by the City
of London. It took eight years, five major
contractors and the relentless labour of
432 construction workers to build Tower
Bridge, which was completed in 1892.
It was opened on 30 June 1894 by the
Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII).
Tower Bridge Exhibition tells the history
of the bridge through animations and
displays, across its towers, highlevel panoramic walkways and the
atmospheric Victorian Engine Rooms.
The installation of the glass walkways
is the most significant change to the
Exhibition since it first opened in 1982.

GLASS & GLAZING

GLASS

Clearly smarter & brighter

New Guardian SunGuard Glass options

Ever since glass has been
featured as a mainstream
commercial building material,
architects have challenged
manufacturers to find
innovative ways to allow them
to create new and exciting
projects. Requirements for
optimum visible light, low
solar heat and increased heat
retention, in either completely
neutral glass or with advanced
decorative finishes have
become a well established
expectation.
Many of these challenges push the
boundaries of physics to the very limit.
For example, high light transmission and
low solar factor contradict each other, as
do high solar factor and very low thermal
insulation. Yet somehow manufacturers
continually reset the goal posts with new

GLASS & GLAZING

and innovative products. This has never

been more evident than with the launch
of two new advanced glass products
from Guardian Industries: SunGuard
SuperNeutral 70/35 and SunGuard High
Durable Diamond 66.

for a Low E. The new SunGuard SN

70/35 will be replacing SunGuard SN
70/37.

This is the most desirable product in our

SunGuard range, said Paul Anderson,
Architectural Specifications Manager at
Guardian Industries.

Joining SN 70/35 is the new Guardian

SunGuard HD Diamond 66. For many
years, architects have driven the design
of glass products towards low reflection
and completely neutral glass. However,
with the advent of projects like the Shard
in London, there is a new design demand
for completely neutral glass with a highly
reflective surface. The challenge: to create
a clear glass that has a high level of shine
and reflection without compromising the
light transmission or the views through
the glass. SunGuard HD Diamond 66
meets the challenge, creating bolder and
brighter buildings. Most commonly used
in double skin facades, HD Diamond
66 is the ideal product for high-profile
projects looking to make a statement on
the skyline of any city.

SN 70/35 offers exceptional

performance in a solar control glass that
is so neutral, it could almost be mistaken

co.uk/latestproducts.

SN 70/35 allows a high light transmission

of 70 percent combined with a low solar
factor of just 35 percent and an optimum
1.0 U value performance.
This is achieved in an almost neutral
glass which has just 5 percent colour
distortion and allows architects to create
anything from a large glazed facade to
a casement window which offers the
ideal level of energy balance between the
inside and the outside of the building.

Companies signed

The Hub can be used by
Approved Installers and

Amy Grundy, National Sales
Manager for the Approved
Installer Scheme is delighted
by the enthusiastic response
the Marketing Hub has
received: It's great to see
the variety of products that
Approved Installers have
ordered for their businesses.
We thought long and hard
about the range of materials
that companies would find
most useful and now that
there's been time to monitor
the uptake, we know how fully
they've delved into what's
available. We have already
listened to feedback from
our Approved Installers and
added additional items to the
Hubs which they have told us
would be useful.

MACHINERY

Stuga machines are built to last

Late in 1998 Steve
Haines got together
with Stuga Machinery.
Steve knew that there
was a considerable
potential market for
automatic sawing &
machining centers that
were both practical
and affordable.
There were a small
number of German
built machines
that were very big,
overcomplicated
and adapted for use
with simple German
window styles to the
more complex styles
seen in the UK.
Given that Steve had
enquiries and Stuga had
ideas that fitted with his
philosophy they joined forces
to create the machine the
market needed, hence the
Stuga Flowline was born.
Once the decision to go
ahead was made Stuga soon
sold the idea to Astraframe
in Norwich and owner Trevor
Collier invested in the first
machine. This prototype
was demonstrated at Stuga
in December 1999 and as a
result another five machines
were sold to fabricators
that wanted to get in on this
innovative and affordable
technology. All six are still fully
operational, three of them
with the original owners.
The prototype Flowline was
delivered to Astraframe
in January 2000 and the
competition claimed that
this British equipment would
never last. How wrong they
were! Fifteen years later every
Stuga sawing & machining
center is still fully operational

66 | December 2014 | www.mytrade.tv

in the market place. There

are more than 150 Flowlines,
ZX3, ZX4, Microline and
AutoFlow-2 centers. Although
the German versions were
quite impressive they seemed
to the normal fabricator
overly complicated, hard
to look after and expensive
to run, whereas the Stuga
was quite the opposite. The
Stuga machines were also
actually designed to operate
around the more complex
British window systems. Not
only have Stuga machines
been proven to have great
longevity but their energy
efficient design means that
running costs are much lower
than for their competition and
when things go wrong they
are usually very easy to fix
without too much skill.
Right from the first designs
Stuga have catered for the
internally glazed British
window styles with designs
that incorporate automatic
arrowhead centering and
rotary tooling that is always
extremely helpful in this
market when compared to
fixed heads. This creates
considerable flexibility for
various operations and almost
eliminates compromises in
set-up. Any tool on the head
can be set at any position
within three hundred and sixty
degrees and the software
allows this to be done by
operation and/or by profile.
Additionally the smallest
possible footprints have
been utilized to save space
and on the bigger machines
a U shaped configuration

makes a single operator

possible which doesnt work
on straight line models due
to the considerable distance
between loading and take-off.
One man cannot efficiently
operate a machine that has
a 20m walk between infeed
sand outfeed. On the Stuga
ZX3 and ZX4 when the
operator is standing at the
outfeed they are only a short
distance from the infeed
allowing them to load as well
as unload most of the time.
The Stuga rotary tooling
system is well proven to be
reliable and is actually a very
simple design that can be
easily lubricated ensuring a
trouble free life. Each Stuga
sawing & machining center
whether new or factory
rebuilt comes with a five year
warranty to give customers
peace of mind regarding this
important area.
It is heartening for Stuga to
see its machines outliving
much of the competition and
being used and maintained
throughout the United
Kingdom and Ireland on a
daily basis. Stuga machines
are not overly large but
effective and innovative in
a market where it is easy
to purchase the wrong
machine, paying for that
mistake for a long time. Most
Stuga business comes from
recommends to prove the
point.
Stuga doesnt win or expect
to win all sawing and
machining business but
the fact that it has outsold

all competition for nearly

fifteen years suggests that
the company has a level of
success to be envied. Spare
parts are always available,
including for fifteen year
old machines, service is
legendary and there are
work-arounds for all levels of
obsolescence, whether they
are mechanical, electronic
or software. Stuga has its
own in-house software
department and writes its
own software, something that
most competitors would love
to claim they have to hand,
rather than in another country.
Seven field technicians
geographically based means
that back-up is never far
away and onboard cameras
complete the customer peace
of mind. Stuga machines are
monitored over the internet
from the Stuga service center
by both software diagnostics
and live cameras with a
number of personnel being
able to do this, creating a
first class experience when
inevitable difficulties occur.
These cameras have sound
as well as vision and can also
record which is very useful
for catching intermittent
faults that dont sometimes
occur when the machine is
being watched. The fact that
customers are dealing with
a manufacturer directly and
one that is based here in
this country eliminates time
delays, language barriers and
holiday created problems.
The simple fact is that dealing
directly with this British based
manufacturer for UK uPVC
window fabricators makes
sense on all levels because
they are here in this country,
speaking our language and
working in our time zone, all
critically important points
often overlooked.

Another record

month for Deceuninck

and its customers
Deceunincks sales in October
were up a record 27%
compared to the same month
in 2013. This is a big step on
Deceunincks path to its top
three target, set by group
CEO Tom Debusschere at the
FiT show 2014. Deceuninck
has recently opened a stateof-the-art 110,000 square
foot warehouse, developed a
series of bespoke customer
marketing tools and continued
to provide high standards
of customer service to its
fabricators and their installers.

Deceuninck
Sales Director
Rob McGlennon.

All of this is contributing to customers

growth and therefore Deceunincks,
according to Sales Director Rob
McGlennon: Our customers, and their
installer customers, have been steadily
growing, backed by our unmatched level
of service and support.
I am often told by customers that our
personal approach makes us a pleasure
to deal with, and that they are amazed
how quick and easy it is to contact us if
there is ever an issue.
Unrivalled service, with a 96% success
rate on deliveries, on time and in full,
gives our customers the means to stand
out and sell in a crowded market.
Our approach is clearly paying off,
concludes Rob. Which is great for us,
because if our customers do well, so do
we.

FABRICATORS & INSTALLERS

OLDHAMS FINEST APPROVED

TO FABRICATE AND INSTALL
BY THE VEKA UK GROUP
Gemini UPVC Ltd. and its
installation arm, AWC Windows
and Home Improvements are
some of the latest companies
to sign up to The VEKA UK
Groups Approved Fabricator
and Installer initiative.
Based in Oldham, not only has AWC
joined as an Approved Installer but
Gemini has joined as an Approved
Fabricator too, meaning that they are now
able to put their customers forward to be
Approved.
The companies, run by brothers Michael
and Paul Griffiths, are among their
regions most-respected, thanks, in
no small part, to their commitment to
supplying superior quality products from
The VEKA UK Group.

is fantastic - particularly as theyre

now eligible to approve their installer
customers.
Both companies already make great
use of the VEKA Marketing Toolkit so
were excited to see how their businesses
develop further with the addition of
exclusive, customisable marketing
materials from the Approved Installer
Schemes online Marketing Hub. This
online facility enables the companys
branding to appear prominently across
a range of professionally-designed
marketing materials, supported by the
Approved logo. It even allows companies
to change images to create a brochure
that best represents them and their work.
The initiative is advantageous for every
link in the supply chain. Approved

Installers commit to only working with

Approved Fabricators who, in turn,
benefit from loyal and dependable
repeat trade. Approved Installers can be
confident that they are using products of
the highest quality and, supported by the
industrys finest marketing package, have
ample opportunity to bring that prestige
to the attention of homeowners - both
via marketing materials and a subsidised
website design and build service.
Amy continues: To have Gemini and AWC
become Approved demonstrates that
even established businesses can benefit
from the scheme. Theres no charge to
sign-up and were there to support both
Approved Fabricators and Installers every
step of the way. I look forward to many
others following in their footsteps!

Joining more than 200 Approved

Installers and Fabricators, Gemini and
AWC are part of an overwhelming uptake
in the initiative since it was launched at
the FIT Show earlier this year.
Amy Grundy, National Sales Manager
for the Approved Installer scheme was
excited to congratulate both companies
on their new, Approved status: What
Gemini and AWC have achieved in their
area speaks for itself and were thrilled to
have businesses of their standing join the
Approved Installer initiative. For Gemini to
come onboard as an Approved Fabricator

October sales reach an all-timehigh for The VEKA UK Group

The VEKA UK Group has
reinforced its position as the
UK's number one manufacturer
of PVC-U window and door
profile with its strongest sales
month EVER.

commented: It's great for the Group to

have reached this milestone and better
still that it affirms our offering is perfectly
suited to discerning fabricators. Without
their sales we wouldn't have a business,
so the fact that we're flourishing shows
we offer the right range of products for

the market. We have yet more new and

innovative products on the way in early
2015 and constantly strive to enhance
current systems and develop new ones,
so, as ever, if you have any suggestions,
we're all ears!

Sales in October topped those of any

other month since the family-owned
German multinational, VEKA, established
its UK arm, VEKA plc, back in 1986.
Coinciding with its Approved Fabricator
and Installer Scheme reaching a tally
of over 300 member companies,
October's sales record reflects the
shared successes of both The VEKA UK
Group and its customers, with a number
of VEKA and Halo fabricators posting
similarly unprecedented sales figures in
recent months.

Door-Stop

Supported by the Chartered

Its fantastic news, says
Martin Dickie, Business Unit

strategy is to make it easier
for customers to order, market

building their own businesses.

A two year, multi-channel,

MRA Marketing did just that
and the award recognises
just how successful this has
been.

The National Fenestration

participation of the industry.
There was a massive increase
in votes cast this year, with
voting up by a staggering
293% on the numbers voting
in 2013 - a total of 2,579
votes were cast in 2014.
Roger Hartshorn commented:

peers within the industry. Its
great for the team at Liniar to

the hard work they all put in
throughout the year!
Jason Grafton-Holt from the
NFAs remarked:
Were delighted about the
high levels of voting this
year and feel the industry
has really taken the NFAs to
its collective heart. Liniar is
a well-deserved winner in
this category; their amazing

AWARDS

GLASSOLUTIONS WINS G14

ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR AWARD

GLASSOLUTIONS
commitment to environmental
sustainability has been given
industry approval at the G14
awards where it received the
Environmental Initiative of the
Year award.
The company, which is part of the
international Saint-Gobain Group, picked
up the award at the prestigious awards
ceremony hosted by comedian Kevin
Bridges at the glamorous Hilton Park
Lane Hotel, London.
GLASSOLUTIONS won the award for its
investment in a unique scientific study at
the Energy House at Salford University.
The research project measured the

contribution that GLASSOLUTIONS glass

makes to the energy performance of the
whole house, as well as the performance
of the windows. It provided further
evidence that high performance glass
from GLASSOLUTIONS can cut energy
use and the contribution is the equivalent
of adding 150mm of loft insulation.
GLASSOLUTIONS Marketing Director
Mike Butterick, who collected the award
alongside Managing Director Simon
Carin, said: Winning the Environmental
Initiative of the Year award is a fantastic
achievement which recognises the
companys commitment to developing
sustainable products and processes.
We are the only glass company in the
UK to have tested our glass in this way
and can offer our customers complete

assurance of its performance - our glass

does what it says on the tin, so to speak!
We are planning Phase 2 to further
develop the research. This is vital
data that will impact on future product
development and investment in energy
saving solutions. Its a step-change in the
industry and we have opened the door
for other manufacturers and installers to
show what their systems are capable of.

Gary Morton presented with the

Derek Bonnard Award for Excellence
Another fantastic night was
had by all at the G14 Awards
Presentation and Gala Dinner,
as the glass and glazing
industry united once again to
celebrate all that is great and
good within it.
Winners of all categories stood out
as shining examples of commitment,
dedication and excellence but none more
so than the winner of the Derek Bonnard
Award for Excellence, Gary Morton.
Gary has had an extensive and impressive
career within the glass and glazing
industry, explains Joe Hague, Managing
Director of the Promac Group, sponsors
of the Derek Bonnard award. In addition
to this, Garys extraordinary leadership
of the GM Fundraising team has resulted

Presentation of Award for Excellence.

in them raising over 1 million for Hope

House Childrens Hospices an absolutely
astonishing achievement. As early
supporters of GM Fundraising, Promac
continues to be amazed at the energy
and enthusiasm he injects into fundraising
for children with life-limiting illnesses. It
seemed perfectly fitting that the judges
chose to recognise Garys efforts with the
Derek Bonnard Award this year.
Explaining what it means to win the
award, Gary Morton comments: To
be presented with the Derek Bonnard
Award for Excellence is a tremendous
honour. Derek was a friend, who I liked
and thoroughly respected, which makes
this even more special. To be recognised
in this way for something that has given
me so much joy over the years was
a complete shock. I have a genuine
passion and love of what we do at GM
Fundraising and feel a huge amount of
gratitude to everyone who has supported
us over the years. There have been
moments of hardship and heartache
along the way, but it has mostly been a
massive amount of fun. I feel proud of
what the team has achieved over the
years and hope that we can continue to
raise funds for this immensely worthy

cause long into the future.

Managing Director of Bohle Ltd and
longstanding GM Fundraising team
member Dave Broxton, was there to
present the award and remarked on the
night: The recipient of this years award
is an individual who has proven himself
as an entrepreneur and businessman. He
has been involved in setting up businesses,
running companies and fully immersing
himself in all aspects of the glazing sector.
But that is not the reason we are honouring
him tonight. We are here to reward
excellence of a different kind; of human
kind. To reward someone who has worked
tirelessly for the benefit of others, and to
recognise the leadership and success
of a man who had a dream of raising a
thousand pounds for a childrens charity
and ended up creating a fundraising
legacy of well over a million pounds.
Joe concludes: Gary is a truly worthy
winner of the Derek Bonnard Award for
Excellence and the entire Promac team
would like to congratulate him on his
success.
