About the Company

Almarai was established as a partnership between the Irish agri-foods pioneer

Alastair McGucklan and his brother Paddy, and Prince Sultan bin Mohammed bin
Saud AL Kabeer, in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1977.
Currently, it is the largest vertically integrated dairy company in the world.
Starting with fresh milk and laban processing, the scale of these initiatives
quickly expanded to include modern dairy farms and state-of-the-art processing
plants.
In the 1990s, Almarai underwent a process of restructuring and reinvestment
that changed its decentralised structure to a centralised one. This was done to
establish itself as a low cost producer and ensure high quality products at
affordable prices to its consumers. This restructuring entailed 5 processing plants
being replaced with one central processing plant. Additionally, 10 small dairy
farms were replaced by 4 large dairy farms. Late in 2005, an additional central
processing plant was commissioned to include a new cheese plant. This also
included commissioning of 2 new super-farms. In the same year, the company
moved to become a public company currently with 70,000 shareholders. At the
end of 2011, its market capitalisation surpassed the SAR 23 billion mark.
