Few Dental facts according to World health Organization (WHO):

Worldwide, 6090% of school children and nearly 100% of adults have

dental cavities.
Dental cavities can be prevented by maintaining a constant low level of
fluoride in the oral cavity.
Severe periodontal (gum) disease, which may result in tooth loss, is found in
1520% of middle-aged (35-44 years) adults.
Globally, about 30% of people aged 6574 have no natural teeth.
Oral disease in children and adults is higher among poor and disadvantaged
population groups.
Risk factors for oral diseases include an unhealthy diet, tobacco use, harmful
alcohol use and poor oral hygiene, and social determinants.

Now, all these above mentioned 3 common issues are somewhat related to
each other

1: Plaque: This a mostly transparent or white in colour thin layer formed on

teeths when the oral hygiene is taken proper care of like brushing twice a day,
not brushing properly enough. This is the root cause of dental issues as this
erodes the enamel and helps cavities to take their place in teeths.

2: Periodontal: It is an developed version of plaque and causes serious issues if

left untreated like rotting the tissues of the gums and thus destroys the bones
around the teeth which leads to tooth loss and develops a need for bone
grafting to restore oral health with dentures. According to WHO Periodontal
disease affects the majority of Indians and follows a similar trend as dental
caries, where the prevalence increases as age increases. In 12 year olds, the
prevalence was 55.4%, increasing to 89.2% of 35-44 year olds (Bali, et al.,
2004). The prevalence in the 65-74 age range was slightly lower (79.4%), most
likely due to the high prevalence of missing teeth in this age range (Bali, et al.,
2004). Periodontal disease is equally prevalent across genders, with somewhat
higher prevalence in rural areas (Bali, et al., 2004).

3: Gingivitis: This is also one of the major and common problem among
Indians. Its so easy to detect but majority of Indians just live with this this a s
they event aware that symptoms like bad breath, bleeding gums when they are
brushed and receding gums etc are termed as Gingivitis.

All these major common Dental problems can be treated and lets strive to
have the most beautiful smile with strong teeths as something to be proud of
as Indians.
