TECHNICAL SUPPORT BULLETIN

June 15, 2010

TSB 2010-082-A

SEVERITY: Medium Operational

P RO D U CT S AF FE CTE D :

DCFM 10.3.3 and earlier, EFCM 9.7.4, EZSS 6.3.0 and earlier
CORRECTED IN RELEASE:
DCFM 10.3.4, EFCM 9.7.4 with a JAR file patch and EZ Switch Setup (EZSS) 6.3.1 provide support for
the new 00:05:33 OUI value. The OUI is embedded within the WWN.

(E.g. WWN 10:00:00:05:33:41:5C:C1)

BULLETIN OVERVIEW
New shipments of Fabric OS (FOS) based hardware platforms have transitioned to using WWNs with a new
Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI) value. The OUI is part of a Fibre Channel (FC) WWN that uniquely
identifies the manufacturer of FC hardware products including FC switches. The OUI values assigned to
Brocade products are used by Fabric OS to validate certain fabric interoperability support and
manageability applications, such as DCFM and EFCM, use it to determine whether or not a switch is
sourced from Brocade.

Brocade produces and publishes Technical Support Bulletins to OEMs, partners and customers that
have a direct, entitled, support relationship in place with Brocade.
Please contact your primary service provider for further information regarding this topic and
applicability for your environment

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Deploying a device with a WWN containing the new OUI, regardless of the FOS version, requires that
the SAN management application, such as DCFM and EFCM, be patched or upgraded. Versions of
DCFM and EFCM that do not support the new OUI will not be able to manage switches that use the
new OUI. These switches will be displayed in the application with icons indicating that they are
unmanageable. Management of pre-existing switches, which dont use the new OUI value, are not
impacted.

TSB 2010-082-A

Versions of DCFM prior to DCFM 10.3.4 cannot manage switches that incorporate the OUI value listed
above in their WWN. Brocade EFCM 9.7.4 installations that have not been patched cannot manage
switches that incorporate the OUI value listed above in their WWN. Versions of EZ Switch Setup prior
to EZSS 6.3.1 cannot manage switches that incorporate the OUI value listed above their WWN.

RISK ASSESSMENT
Unless systems installed with DCFM 10.3.3 or earlier are upgraded to DCFM 10.3.4 or later, the
management application will not be able to manage or monitor Brocade HW manufactured after April
2010. The same risk applies if the user does not install the JAR file patch on systems running EFCM
9.7.4. The same risk applies if the user does not upgrade to EZSS 6.3.1 from EZSS 6.3.0 or earlier.
Regarding element management, Web Tools is not impacted by the new OUI.
In addition, third-party management applications that monitor or manage Brocade products may not
support the new OUI values for devices sourced from Brocade. Please contact the third-party vendor if
support is necessary.

SYMPTOMS
Unmanageable switches will appear as gray icons.

WORKAROUND
A workaround does not exist for this problem.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
DCFM users must upgrade, at a minimum, to DCFM 10.3.4 or DCFM 10.4.0 to avoid this problem.
Brocade has provided a JAR file patch for EFCM 9.7.4. In addition to the JAR file, installation
instructions are provided in a readme file on the MyBrocade website within the EFCM 9.7.4 download
section. EZ Switch Setup users must upgrade, at a minimum, to EZSS 6.3.1 avoid this problem.
Upgrades are available for download from MyBrocade.
