A Feasibility Study on

Replacing Broken Screen Projectors

and Providing Cable Adapters
in the Classrooms
at Mapua Institute of Technology

December 2015

Executive Summary
Joshua Lloyd C. Abonita
The purpose of this feasibility study is to help in ensuring the students to
have a conducive environment to learn at Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) by
replacing broken screen projectors in the classrooms. A survey was conducted
among 40 students of MIT in no particular year level and program. It can be seen on
the survey that 86% of the respondents experienced problem with screen porjectors
during class. The survey also showed that color problem is the most experienced
problem of the respondents. While only 38% of the respondents agreed in replacing
the screen projectors and the remaining 62% disagreed. Another problem that
stuents often experience is the problem with the cable that is not sometimes
compatible with the device they are using. From the survey, 63% of the respondents
experienced incompatibility with VGA cable , the one installed in the room. And from
that 83% of the respondents agreed that cable adapter should be provided in each
classroom for the devices to be compatible always whether it is VGA or HDMI cable.
As the survey was being conducted among the students of MIT, the prices of the
different models of screen projectors of different brands were canvasssed. The
computed cost for the screen projectors were prepared. The ViewSonic LightStream
PJD7830HDL was identified as the most optimal option.

Introduction
Joshua Lloyd C. Abonita
Many Instructors use screen projector to aid their discussion. Screen projector
is a device used to display a projected image for the view of the audience. Screen
projector is essential for students to learn during discussion. Some of the screen
projectors in school was installed years ago and as time went by, many of them
experiences failure and result to being broken which is the main problem. This
problem can affect students learning if not paid attention. Another concern is the
compatibiliy of new devices that uses HDMI which is not compatible to the cable of

screen projector that uses VGA. VGA cable is the cable that is installed in the
classroom and most of the old devices have VGA ports in it, while HDMI is a new
kind of port which is used by modern devices. Providing each classroom cable
adapter will help to solve the problem.
This research shows how students of Mapua Institute of Technology respond
to the idea of improving the learning system in MIT.
The objective of this report is to determine whether or not it is possible to
replace the broken screen projectors in the classroom. Also whether it is possible to
provide cable adapters to each room for the devices to be always compatible to
screen projectors.

Methodology
Joshua Lloyd C. Abonita
This research was conducted in order to determine whether it is possible to
replace the broken screen projectors in the classroom and to provide cable
adapters. The researchers prepared a questionnaire to determine the possibility of
replacing the screen projectors in the classroom and providing cable adapters. In
order to answer these research goals, the researchers opted to obtain the view of
the students of the Institute in line with the topic of screen projectors. Specifically
40 respondents were randomly selected to answer the questionnaire on the topic
concerning the screen projectors. Data gathered from this research instrument were
then tallied and analyzed for interpretation.
The survey questionnaire was composed of the following:
1. Have you experienced the screen projector malfunctioning or being broken
during class?
2. If yes, what kind of malfunctioning did you experience? (You may choose
more than one)
Poor Image Quality
Color Problem
Temperature Warning
Cable Connection Problem
Suddenly Turning off
Others (please specify)
3. Do you think the broken screen projectors installed in classroom needs to be
replaced?
4. Have you experience cable incompatibility while using the screen projector?
(VGA to HDMI)

5. If yes, does providing cable adapter in each room will help to solve the
problem?

Findings
Joshua Lloyd C. Abonita
Based on the data gathered the researchers found out that:
Most of the respondents that answered the questionnaire have experienced
malfunctioning or broken screen projectors, 86% of the respondents have
experienced the problem in screen projectors. While the remaining 14% of the
respondents answered that they have not experinced malfunctioning and broken
screen projectors.
For those students who answered Yes, the most common kind of
malfunctioning the respondents experienced was color problem with 38% . Second
is temperature warning with 32%, third is suddenly turning off with 12%, fourth is
cable connection problem with 11%, and last is poor image quality with 7%. There
are few respondents who answered display toggling, image not being displayed fully
and image repeated as some of the malfunctions they have experienced while using
screen projectors in school. With the malfunctioning the respondents have
experienced, some of the screen projectors in school needs to be replaced.
For the question whether the screen projectors in classrooms needs to be
replaced, only 38% of the respondents agreed to replace the screen projectors.
While the remaining 62% of the respondents disagreed in replacing the screen
projectors.
For the question regarding cable incompatibility between the device and
screen projectors, 63% of the respondents answered Yes as the device they use
needs HDMI cable. While the remaining 37% did not experienced cable
incompatibility as they used a device that needs VGA cable which is the one
provided by the school.
For the follow-up question about the school providing cable adapter in each
room, 83% of the respondents agreed for the school to provide cable adapters.
While the 17% disagreed in providing cable adapters in each room.
Based on the results, 86% of the respondents experienced malfunctioning or
broken screen projectors which shows that there are many screen projectors that
are not in good condition. Majority of the respondents agreed in providing cable

adapters in each room to fix the incompatibility problem. While only 38% of the
respondents agreed in replacing the broken screen projectors.
The prices of some of the latest model of screen projectors the Institute could
possibly use were canvassed. These are provided in the table below.

The model of screen projector that will be used is ViewSonic LightStream

PJD7830HDL since its cost is practical. Its feauture is not that much different to the
other model which cost a lot.
Conclusion and Recommendation
Reyes, Carlos, Jr., F.
Theres a problem in the facility of Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT)
concerning projectors and cable adapters that causes a major difference on the
student learning process. Projectors make the professors and students works easily
and coviniently. It is used to display images for the audience to easily follow and
know what the speaker is saying, the Screen projector is essential for students to
learn during discussion but without it, it causes the student to not participate or do
better at class because of laziness. Another concern is the compatibiliy of new
devices that uses HDMI(High-Definition Multimedia Interface) which is not
compatible to the cable of screen projector that uses VGA(Video Graphics Array).
Providing each classroom cable adapter will help to solve the problem.
Based on the survey conducted on student, many of them have encountered
the same problems many of them experiences failure and result to being broken
which is the main problem. Most of the respondents that answered the
questionnaire have experienced malfunctioning or broken screen projectors, 86% of
the respondents have experienced the problem in screen projectors. While the

remaining 14% of the respondents answered that they have not experinced
malfunctioning and broken screen projectors.
Having new facilities like new projectors improve the learning environment of
the institute which create convenience for students and professors and gives
accuracy and aid to students for more and better learning. Theres affordable
projectors that have good specifications and far more convenient than the old
projectors being used.
To address the problem concerning the projectors Mapua should acquire new
projectors. Our group recommend that they buy View Sonic Light Stream
PJD7830HDL because its cost is practical and its feature is not that much different to
the other model which cost a lot. They should also acquire HDMI cable adapters for
every projector to make to make it convenient for the professors to use them.
