Politics
Varicolored Hues
If electorates will be more discerning,
the sleight-of-hand tricks being played
by candidates these days are, to put it
in Tagalog, garapalan na.
Consider the political line-ups and
one will see the kind of Philippine
politics we have.
Patronage,
concessions, and accommodations
are the operative words. No principle,
no ideologies. It is still the sickening
politics of the elite that we have.
Imagine a red lady mayor candidate
supporting a yellow candidate for vice
president who is also supporting a red
governor who is an erstwhile political
foe, and you can see the blurring of
colors in the political spectrum.
This is outright opportunism. This
is an inveterate invertebrate virtuosity
in political machinations.
Of course, this is not all their fault.
The fault my dear Brutus is not in
our stars but in ourselves that we are
underlings. Take it from the Bard.
Yes, it takes two to tango.
As Rizal also says, there are no
tyrants where there are no slaves.
These molluscian Moloch are the
voters creation.
They hang their monstrosity in tarps
because that is the kind of image we
want to see.
Is there a way out of this seemingly
hopeless one-directional road of
Philippine politics?
Of course there is.
Our suns
energy will not burn out until after
several more billion years, i.e. not in
our lifetime.
So go, read their tarps and lips. Do
they say something that is giving hope
to our countrys perennial poverty?
If not, just dont vote for them.

In this coming election on May 2016,
many people are saying we should elect
a candidate with its integrity. I agree to
this but integrity should be accompanied
with competence, with justice and fairness
and with compassion. We can judge their
candidate by looking up at their past and
present track record.
On my part, I will judge Mar Roxas on
his track record as former congressman
and senator. He was an ally to President
Gloria M. Arroyo. What did he do with his
pork barrel? He was the second backdoor negotiator of the President to China
next to Sen. Antonio Trillanes whose
failure was written by our Ambassador
to China and read in the Senate. What
did he accomplish in China? As the
Rehabilitation Czar of Yolanda victims,
was he able and efficient in bringing
immediate aid and help to the victims.
Many thousands died of hunger and
sickness there. The COA reported that
funds for Yolanda victims are deposited
in the Development Bank of the
Philippines as Trust Fund. He was Sec.
of the Department of Transportation and
Communication when the international
airport was judged as one of the worst
airport in the world. We had a poor
transportation system; the MRT under
him and was inherited by Sec. Abaya.
As DILG secretary, police supervision
is under him but criminality is high and
getting worse.
Roxas is politically biased against
non-allies. He quarreled with Tacloban
City Mayor Alfredo Romualdez who
asked the Office of the President for aid
to Yolanda victims of Tacloban. Roxas
told Mayor Romualdez who is a nephew

Freelancing
Are you tired of commuting to the office? Do you feel trapped
by your inflexible work schedule? Are you stressed out daily
because of your too-demanding boss and pesky coworkers
who keep on breathing down your neck? Are you working hard
but earning very little? Do you want to feel in control of your
productive and creative talents? Do you want the freedom of
working from the comfort of your home? Do you want to be
emancipated from the rat race routine?
If your answer is a resounding YES, you might want to try
online freelance projects. Freelancing could be your source
of extra income or it could be a full-time career/business path
depending on your skills and attitude. Freelance opportunities
could range from simple data entry tasks to sophisticated and
technical project management, involving several collaborators.
Freelancing is not for everyone. You need to have some
entrepreneurial acumen to succeed. You also need to
continually learn new knowledge and skills that are beyond your
formal training in school. For instance, you may need to learn a
programming language or a foreign language.
You also need to learn some basic financial management.
You have to learn how to balance your personal and household
budget. You might earn relatively higher than regular employees
but freelancing does not have built-in financial safety nets. You
need to take care of that through saving, investing, buying
insurance, and building your own retirement fund. Of course,
you also need to pay your taxes if you want to have a good credit
rating and access to bank loans. You need to treat freelancing
as a business and not just as a job. If you are totally new to
freelancing and you do not know where to start, you can refer to
the list below.
Here are the basic steps:
Step 1: Create a PayPal account (https://www.paypal.com)
and link it to your debit card or credit card. One of the most
convenient ways is to get an EON debit card by opening a
savings account in UnionBankPH (http://www.unionbankph.
com/).
Step 2: Find reputable clients online and submit your
applications or bids. Please refer to the list below.
Step 3: Once you have found projects, try to do your best to
deliver excellent output and submit your output earlier than the
deadline. You can build an impressive online portfolio and good
reputation if you are efficient in finishing projects.
Step 4: Build your professional network. One way of doing
this is by creating a LinkedIn account (https://www.linkedin.
com/). Connect with people and businesses within your chosen
niche.
Step 5: Try to learn new skills and multitask. You may also
recruit others to help you in your projects.

stable and reliable freelance opportunities.

Overall, the total income of

last year is attributed significantly
to lower miscellaneous income

the allocation for irrigation projects in 2014 of P 704.4 million

seven hectares of space for the

Yolanda G. Sa-ong, head
of the Protected Area Management and Biodiversity Section of
DENR-Bicol, said their agency
has been conducting an assessment and preparing a management plan for the protection,
conservation and proper management of the wetlands in the Bicol
Region.
Our assessment last year
identified Sumlang Lake as one
of the eight wetland sites in Bicol, she said.
Sa-ong said a management
plan will take into account the
kinds of species endemic within
and around the lake and help
preserve the lake as a habitat for
these species.
Around a hundred villagers

highlighted the theme of the celebration of World Wetlands Day

The presentation cited the

wetlands as any land area saturated or flooded with water, either
permanently or seasonally, along
with all beaches and shallow
coastal areas, that provide natural

and store carbon dioxide to regulate climate change.
