Hot Gas and Extrusion Welding

The understanding of welding is essential for those
involved in the fabrication of structures from plastic
materials

The practical sessions involve hot gas and extrusion

welding of PE or PP sheet

Injection welding (duration: 1 day)

Suitable for individuals that are using, or considering

using, an injectiweld and wish to learn how to operate
this correctly and safely
The course is predominantly practical based

Tailored training courses

The training and certification available from TWI provides
guidance and best practice on how to successfully carry out
the manual processes of hot gas, extrusion and injection
welding. All courses involve a mixture of classroom and
practical sessions.

Standard training courses

Hot gas appreciation (duration: 1 day)

Suitable for those with little or no experience of hot gas

welding and wishing to understand the basics of the
process and how to operate the equipment safely
This course is predominantly practical based

Hot gas and extrusion welding (duration: 2 days)

Suitable for those wishing to carry out hot gas welding

on a regular basis
Includes an introduction to common thermoplastics joint
preparation, welding procedure, process control, defects
and how to avoid them, inspection and testing and
health and safety

Extrusion welding (duration: 2 days)

Suitable for individuals with some experience of the

hot gas process, wishing to develop their skills in the
complementary process of extrusion welding. The course
includes an introduction to common thermoplastics, joint
preparation, welding procedure

TWI also offers welder training tailored to your company needs,

i.e. using specific materials or equipment, or relating to a particular
type of fabrication.

Examinations

TWI offers CSWIP certification in Hot Gas and Extrusion

Welding techniques, including certification to EN 13067
Approval testing of plastics welders.

Hot gas, speed nozzle welding of ECTFE, FEP or PFA

Continuous extrusion welding of PP sheet - category 2.2
Continuous extrusion of PE sheet - category 3.2
