THE PHILIPPINES
Few nations have been so squarely on the front lines of climate change or seen their citizens
respond so resolutely as the Philippines. With more than 7,100 islands and over 60 percent of
the population living close to an estimated 22,550 miles of coastline, the nation and its citizens
have been hit hard in recent years by a host of climate impacts from increasingly frequent and
severe storms like Super Typhoon Haiyan to rising seas.
Recognizing the threat at their door, Filipinos have responded aggressively and systematically,
passing key climate laws, establishing a climate change commission and creating a bold national
action plan, proving that countries of every size and stage of development can confront the crisis
head-on.
Against this backdrop, were heading to Manila to train the next generation of climate activists.
Over three days, well explore what climate change means for the Philippines and the Asia
Pacific region, share the latest in climate science and breakthroughs in solutions, highlight the
exciting implications of the recent Paris Agreement, and train attendees in the cutting-edge
communications and organizing skills to build a movement to win.
