Flash VM Boot
The Flash VM Boot feature provides the ability to boot VMware VMs directly from compressed and
deduplicated VM backups, without recovering the entire VMs first.

Version 4.1
Developer Kit
NAKIVO introduces an HTTP API that enables you to automate and orchestrate VM backup,
replication, and recovery jobs within NAKIVO Backup & Replication. The kit includes API
documentation and code examples and has been designed so that even non-developers can easily
use it.

Call Home
NAKIVO Backup & Replication can now automatically create, encrypt, and upload support bundles to
a NAKIVO support server. This will help NAKIVO support to quickly identify a root cause of an issue
and provide a solution. Also, the new Call Home feature can help NAKIVO Support to discover,
investigate and suggest possible resolutions to a problem, even before you becoms aware of the
issue.

Datastore Clusters Support

NAKIVO Backup & Replication v4.1 now supports datastore clusters that can be selected as a target
for VM replication or as a target for recovery from VM backup.

Instant Exchange Objects Recovery
NAKIVO Backup & Replication v4 enables browsing, searching, and recovering MS Exchange objects
such as emails directly from compressed and deduplicated VMware VM backups, without the need
to restore the entire VM first. This feature is 100% agentless, works right out of the box, and does not

require creating a special lab or run a special backup type (Exchange objects can be recovered even
from existing NAKIVO backups created by previous versions of the product).

Exchange Log Truncation

Exchange Server database transaction logs record all changes to an Exchange Server database. Over
time, these log files accumulate and can consume all of the available disk space, if not periodically
removed. NAKIVO Backup & Replication v4 provides the option to truncate Exchange Server logs
after a successful backup. This feature is also purely agentless and works right out of the box.

Backup Verification
With backup verification, the product checks VM backups at the block level and ensures that the data
written to the backup repository is identical to the data that was read from the source VM, thus
verifying that application objects, files, and the entire VM can be recovered.

Multi-Tenancy
NAKIVO introduces the industry-first multi-tenancy feature for VM backup and replication, enabling
the creation of multiple isolated tenants within a single product deployment and managed under a
single pane of glass. This enables managed services, cloud, and hosting providers to introduce VM
BaaS, RaaS, and DRaaS to their clients more easily and cost-effectively.

Self-Service
In the Multi-Tenant mode, tenants can access the self-service portal to offload the ESXi VM backup,
replication, and recovery tasks from the service provider. The self-service can be individually enabled
or disabled for each tenant, and data protection privileges can be set for each tenant by a master
admin.

Dynamic License Allocation

License allocation within NAKVIO Backup & Replication Enterprise Edition supports transferring
licenses dynamically from one tenant to another as needed for cloud service providers or from one
business unit to another as need for enterprises. In addition, qualified Cloud Providers can license
NAKIVO Backup & Replication on the per-VM monthly rental basis.

Added support for Grandfather-Father-Son backup rotation scheme allowing to keep and rotate
yearly, monthly, weekly, and daily recovery points.

Improved Job Scheduler

Backup and replication can now be scheduled to run weekly, monthly, yearly, or periodically with
different time periods between job runs.

Backup Repository Self-Healing
Network connectivity disruptions, change of credentials and permissions, improper backup
repository detach and third-party software intervention can cause metadata and backup data to be
locked, partially written, or even corrupted in a backup repository. To ensure backup repository
integrity, NAKIVO introduces the self-healing feature. The product runs automatic and scheduled
self-checks to verify backup repository consistency and automatically repairs discovered errors.

vSphere 5.5 Support

NAKIVO Backup & Replication v3.8 now fully supports the most recent release of VMware vSphere
(5.5), including support for 62TB virtual disks.

Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 Support

In addition to supporting the latest VMware hypervisor, the new version also adds support for the
resent Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 operating systems.

Staged Replication
To speed up the initial VM replication and save network bandwidth, NAKIVO Backup & Replication
can perform staged replication: back up or replicate to a removable media (such as an external USB
drive) and then create a new replication job that will use the transferred VMs as a target and perform
only incremental replication.

Reuse of Backups and Replicas

If a backup or replication job is lost (due to accidental job deletion or because jobs should be
recreated in a new copy of the product) NAKIVO Backup & Replication enables to map source VMs to
existing backups and replicas to avoid transferring full VM data over the network again.

Static Ports Range for Data Transfer

NAKIVO Backup & Replication now enables to specify a static port range used by a Transporter to
transfer data over the network.

Network Acceleration
WAN and LAN links are often slow or have limited bandwidth, driving the need to optimize network
utilization with technology that can reduce network traffic. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication,
network acceleration is achieved with enhanced compression and traffic reduction techniques which
enable 2X faster backup and replication, as well as recovery of VMs and files from local and offsite
backups.

vCloud Director Support

Answering the growing need for a data protection solution in a cloud environment, NAKIVO has
added support for vCloud Director provisioned VMs. NAKIVO Backup & Replication can now back up

and replicate vCloud Director vApps and vCloud Director provisioned VMs, recover files from vApp
backups, as well as perform full VM recovery back into original vApps.

RHEL and SLES Support

In addition to supporting latest Windows Server and Ubuntu Linux editions, NAKIVO Backup &
Replication now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES),
two of the most popular enterprise Linux systems. Now shops with only RHEL and SLES can install
and operate NAKIVO without the need to deploy and maintain a new OS type.

Transport Mode Selection

SAN is a popular solution for offloading production networks and servers from shared storage traffic.
NAKIVO Backup & Replication now has a setting whether to lock a certain job to SAN transport mode
only, use automatic transport mode selection, or retrieve VM data only by LAN.

Command Line Interface

Many businesses today use software automation in their virtualized environments. In addition to job
scheduling, NAKIVO has introduced a CLI that allows automating various actions with jobs and
backup repositories, making it easier to script routine backup tasks.

File Recovery from any Backup
Whether VMs are backed up to a local server, remote office, or a public cloud, NAKIVO Backup &
Replication v3 can recover files from those VM backups quickly and easily. With the advanced
architecture of NAKIVO Backup & Replication, files can be browsed, searched for, and downloaded
directly from any VM backup, regardless of whether a backup repository is located on site or
thousand miles away.

Single-Click Integration with Amazon

While NAKIVO Backup & Replication has long supported manual integration with most popular public
clouds such as Amazon, Azure, Dropbox, Google, and Rackspace single-click integration with
Amazon cloud now is available in version 3. Just fill out credentials, specify how much space to
provision, and click a button - the rest is done automatically in less than 10 minutes.

Advanced Reporting
NAKIVO Backup & Replication v3.0 provides VM backup, replication and recovery reporting on any
job, group of jobs, or all defined jobs. Additionally, reports can be scheduled, automatically
generated, and sent via email.

Repository Detachment
Backup repositories can now be detached from the product and moved to a different location. For
example, this feature can be used to transfer initial backups from a local infrastructure to a remote
office.

Distributed Switches Support

VMware vSphere Distributed Switches are now fully supported for backup, replication, and recovery.

Password Reset
The password used to log in to NAKIVO Backup & Replication can now be reset in the product UI.

CIFS Shares Support for Linux Transporters

Linux-based Transporters can now connect to and use CIFS shares as a repository.
